I'm surprised no one has mentioned Sarah Dessen books. I find her writing to be real and raw and much more mimic real life teenagers. I picked up The Fault in Our Stars and although it is a lovely read, it didn't blow me away as much as I wanted it to be.

Promise me you'll trySarah Dessen's Dreamland. Its pretty heavy - a young love with an abusive plot and it still applies to all of us at any age.

My other favorite would be The Truth Bout Forever. A girl dealing with the death of her father. I cried buckets and the love interest embarasingly enough made my 32 yr old heart swoon.tolldollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06794034040419303743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28060897.post-16567792476228346392014-05-17T07:27:07.222-04:002014-05-17T07:27:07.222-04:00I still haven't read it either! Yellow Birds is short but so poignant, about the Iraq war. It was selected for the "One City, One Book" in Philly recently. I can't believe how timeless and contemporary it was at the same time. And the Mountains Echoed was so magical to me, I read it very quickly and even though I could see most of the plot twists coming, the language is so beautiful. Luckily most people were sleeping because I was one minute laughing loudly and the next had tears streaming down my face. I hope the movie does it justice.
