Here in the Philippines, whitening products are big on the market, and if you watch tv ads or see the billboards or magazine ads, it's all about having "fair skin" that wins the day. :P That said, I also believe in embracing your skin tone and being comfortable with whatever's natural to you ^_^Diane Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07430188439804178512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28060897.post-23010746050543520292012-04-27T14:42:08.797-04:002012-04-27T14:42:08.797-04:00I'm a natural redhead, extremly pale, freckles...I'm a natural redhead, extremly pale, freckles less and Brazilian. May you imagine the way people look at me? They never believe I was born here, 'cause I'm completely the oposite of person that comes trough your mind when you think about Brazil, or a tropical country. Sometimes they say very rude things, but I decided ignore them, that's the way I am and I won't change 'cause someone else thinks that I must be like all the others.Ana Ziliohttp://herrogenetico.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28060897.post-9882935917603313482012-04-27T13:48:47.159-04:002012-04-27T13:48:47.159-04:00I am so pale, I glow! I wear sunscreen every day, sit under an umbrella at the beach, and wear a hat.

Interestingly enough I still had a melanoma removed from my leg last month. Now I am even more proud of my fair/untanned skin I see it as a badge of my good health.

I think that the switch back to pale skin being fashionable will occur when more people become aware of skin cancer risks.

And in the hope that it might help someone else ... my melanoma was found at the earliest stage possible because I pointed it out to my dermatologist. It wasn't ugly like the pictures you see on the internet of what skin cancer looks like. It looked like any other freckle/mole on my body. But something changed that made me notice it. I studied it to figure out what was different (size, shape, color) but I couldn't figure it out ... it was just noticeable (to me only) every time I looked at my leg.

This has strengthened my belief in the importance of taking responsibility for your own health.Marienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28060897.post-14461227721405999102011-07-10T19:42:38.748-04:002011-07-10T19:42:38.748-04:00I rock the pale and freckles all year round and if...I rock the pale and freckles all year round and if i happen to get some colour thats ok but I don't tan on purpose. I think that being pale and looking healthy has a lot to do with the colors that you wear, my mom taught me to compare the color of clothing with the skin on the underside of your wrist and pulling down your bottom lip. It's amazing, you can see clearly what the color does for you, if it warms and complements your coloring.. rather than making you look green or translucent. It's a very fine balance!
And La Roche Posay sunscreen is amazing.Julia Brokawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10743724124095752767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28060897.post-78256080215439944702011-07-02T06:42:32.942-04:002011-07-02T06:42:32.942-04:00I adore beautiful pale girls with freckles (and am...I adore beautiful pale girls with freckles (and am a sucker for a red head) go out be beautiful, be you xStuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14477139974746370431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28060897.post-53094082745198243402011-07-02T01:00:50.745-04:002011-07-02T01:00:50.745-04:00thanks for the post joanna. i'm a fair redhead...thanks for the post joanna. i'm a fair redhead girl myself and have decided to skip the tanning this summer. your post just helped me to realize i did the right thing! i miss living in nyc though, where i think the pale skin is a little easier to pull off. thanks!joellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15788904403419956459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28060897.post-10836058332786405982011-07-01T22:54:45.475-04:002011-07-01T22:54:45.475-04:00I am embracing my pale skin too! (Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning, etc.) Instead I have muttled, icky grenish-white skin. Ugh. I also have keratosis pilaris on my arms and despite what any website says about using alpha hydroxy treatments, the only thing that makes it look better is the sun! That's why it is so difficult to give up the sun for me but this year, after 15 years of abusing my skin in a tanning bed, I have given it up. I've been cutting back for the past 4 years but now, it's over. I have, however, turned to sunless tanners. I like Jergens Natural Glow Express. I also ordered Lancome's version and can't wait for it to get here!
