Romantic getaways

Years ago, before we were married, Alex and I took a trip to The Standard hotel in Miami for his birthday. It was amazing—quiet and romantic, with fire pits, a spa and a hot tub under a waterfall.
(We were such babies!) Here's a deal from the Standard, if you'd like to stay...
The enormous infinity pool is as warm as a bathtub, facing Biscayne Bay, and the hotel restaurant served fresh Greek salads with tofu and fish sandwiches with spicy fries.
Bonus: The hotel offers fluffy white robes, so you can spend your weekend in a robe, swimsuit and flip flops—no need to pack much else! They also have a spa with mud baths and candlelight yoga. (FYI, no kids under 17 are allowed, so it feels very adult for a romantic getaway.)
Since falling in love with that hotel years ago, we've stayed in Standard hotels on a few special occasions. For example, we stayed in The Standard in New York on our wedding night and took a one-night staycation there a few weeks ago.
The Standard has hotels in New York, LA and Miami, and they're all beautiful. If you're craving a romantic getaway, I have fun news: Cup of Jo readers can get 20% off at any of their hotels through September 30th with the code ACUPOFJO. (You just have to book your stay online or over the phone before Thursday, July 24th.)

Which would you want to visit? (I'd highly recommend Miami—and it's quiet and lovely this time of year with temperatures in the 70s and 80s.) Thank you so much, Standard hotels!

(This post was sponsored by Standard hotels, which we love. Some black out dates apply. Thank you for supporting the sponsors that support Cup of Jo)

OMG. I wish I lived closer to the Standard locations, so I could take advantage of this offer! I've been dreaming of a short getaway with my husband.

The Miami location looks so relaxing! We stayed at the one on the High Line for our honeymoon and loved it!

I love the Standard but haven't stayed in one yet - thanks for the reminder to get on that ASAP :)

Sounds wonderful! Sadly all too far away.

I would LOVE to check out the Standard Hotel in Miami. The one in NYC is so chic and romantic, but the idea of lazily lounging by a pool sounds perfect. Also fish sandwiches and spicy fries…... xo

I just tried making a reservation online, where in the check out process do you type in the code? My husband and I have been looking for a weekend getaway and this looks perfect!

rachel, i have an answer! when you get to the booking page (where it says "arrival date" at the top of the page), there is a box called "promo code." so just type "acupofjo" into that box.

hope that helps!! let me know if you have any other questions. and happy travels! :)

There it is! Right where I should have seen it. Thank you for answering a question I should have been able to figure out on my own, I really appreciate it!

When I looked into booking, it said that if you book within 14 days of arrival, you get 20% off. So do we get your 20% off and theirs? Thanks so much for the tip!

*Sigh* we don't have our next vacation planned until Sept. I'd love to do a quick getaway to one of these hotels, but it's just not in the cards right now! Maybe if we lived in the US close to one of these hotels.

ali, i'll ask right now!

Looks dreamy! I've been to NY and Miami so I'd probably choose LA.

My husband and I booked 3 nights over labor day weekend in Miami earlier this week. We've stayed many times before, it's probably our favorite hotel. And when I was in college (at University of Miami) I used to sneak into the pool!

ali, i have an answer! apparently, this cup of jo rate is lower than every other publicly available rate now. earlier, there was a different 20% off rate for the standard miami only but it wasn't very user-friendly - ie full deposit, non changeable, non refundable...and apparently that discount is over now anyway. so the cup of jo code is the way to go! thank you so much xo

Did The Standard also "sponsor" your little getaway from a few weeks ago?

Seems awfully coincidental...

Joanna Goddard said...

MorenaMaire, no, our NYC staycation was absolutely not sponsored. we went there on our own as regular guests. the standard reached out last week about this deal (maybe after they saw the post and how much readers were responding to the standard?)

This is perfect timing for me! I just bought tickets for a Miami Dolphins game in September, and have been trying to decide where to stay in Miami (will be flying in from Chicago). Thanks!

So after your post a few weeks back we decided to try out the Standard High Line. It was so relaxing and started out great and even ended up great. THEN we got home and checked our account to find that we had been charged for incidentals. Not just a little charge either... Come to find out that the "incidentals" were for the minibar that was NEVER opened. The professionalism was about zero when dealing with this issue and although we received a "one-time complimentary" reimbursement, I would never ever go there again. Hopefully the Miami and LA hotels have better, more honest staff.

oh, ryan, i'm so sorry to hear that! we've always had such great experiences. i'll ask them about it...

70 or 80 degrees would be amazing...it is actually 95 right now, 105 with the heat index. I suppose if you're lounging in the pool the darned oppressive Florida weather doesn't matter. (Florida resident here dreaming of Antarctica...)

Do you have any recommendations for places to go or place to eat in Miami? Thanks!

This looks like such a beautiful and romantic hotel. I love the beach and ocean. My husband and I are going on a trip to Edmonton in a few months and I am trying to find a romantic hotel for us to stay in. Finding a good hotel can make a big different in a trip or vacation. I hope to find one soon!
