Have a great (Fourth of July) weekend!

What are you up to this weekend? Any plans to watch fireworks? We're planning to squeeze onto our building's roof deck, if it's not too crowded! Anton also turns one (!) on Saturday, so we're going to have a day full of everything he loves—strawberries for breakfast, hanging out with my dad, a thousand pushes in the swings, a banana-bread cake...Hope you have a good weekend, and here are a few fun links from around the web.

On Monday, we'll be starting the second round of Motherhood Around the World. Really excited to share.

Clever movie poster.

The joy of talking to strangers.

What's even better than pie? Galettes.

Would you choose a motivational password?

The world's most dangerous amusement park opens its gates.

Loving these Seinfeld posts.

A pretty hostess gift.

What really happens when you're not Instagramming.

Why Finnish babies sleep in cardboard boxes.

How badly do you have to pee? Made me laugh.

Bubbles at a wedding.

Why cute things make us want to squeeze them.

Why are all the cartoon mothers dead?

And, last but not least, thank you for all the sweet comments about our upcoming move. We're excited for a new chapter, and your tips helped calm any nerves. Have a great weekend, and talk soon :)

Happy 4th of July! I'm in Canada - we had Canada Day on the 1st! Happy birthday to Anton!!!! So exciting! :) This weekend the Calgary Stampede starts! We are going to the zoo tomorrow (my 13 month olds first time!) and then on Sunday we are just going to relax with dad. Hope you get a good spot on the roof!

Inspiration passwords! I have been doing that for years and figured it was a dorky idiosyncrasy. I don't think I was ever that conscious of it when I started doing it. I had about 6 years of painful transition in my life and my many passwords became a reminder of what I wanted and why I was taking so many risks. Typing them every day was indeed a mantra. Whenever people would want to use my Wifi at home I would rush over and type the password for them because I expected them to think I was nuts. I used J0burg07, when I was working for an internship in South Africa - that I got :) I used MISt4CA, when I was applying to grad school and W0rth1t after I ended a very painful relationship and embarked on single life again. I'm naturally inclined to be fearful so I tend to put myself in situations where the only way out is through. It's not ideal, but I start a lot of days with a gut check and a reminder that it's part of the mas5terp1an.

I've always done motivational passwords too. I figure since I'm typing it a gazillion times that it will probably sink in.

Happy birthday to Anton - enjoy the strawberries and banana cake you sweet little monkey! Joanna - you mentioned before you planned to share his birth story around his birthday - are you still thinking this, or is the move putting that a bit more on the back burner? (no pressure!!!)

Interesting article on talking to strangers, I think people should make an effort to disconnect from media more often and talk to strangers! Happy 4th to you! Too bad it's raining in NY =/

We moved to Finland from Canada when I was 6 months pregnant, so we were lucky to get a free box! My daughter slept in that exact blue box and still wears some of the clothes 4 months later! They're really smart in the way they put it together since there are outfits for every stage of growth. I honestly don't understand why every country doesn't do this! Even Canada doesn't provide a starter kit! Why?!

I use spelling words as my password! You know those words that you absolutely ought to know how to spell, but that spell check catches every time? Those words. Once I master a word, I just pick a new one!

Backpacking around Southeast Asia and Japan, I've spoken to more strangers in the 5 months I've been traveling than probably my whole life. I've even gone out to dinner with groups of people I've just met.
