Weekend in Florida

We just got back from three days in Florida, and it was amazing and restorative. After such a long NYC winter, we had forgotten what it was like to have warm air on our skin.
We visited my mom and her husband, who live in Michigan but spend part of the winter near Naples. Toby and my mom are pretty much obsessed with each other, so there were lots of inside jokes and giggling.
We went to the beach and built sandcastles. Toby also made us sand birthday cakes with driftwood candles.
It felt so good to stretch our legs!
My mom and Anton also really bonded on this trip. She hadn't seen him since he was teeny, so she was happy to get to know him, now that his personality is emerging. He's sweet-hearted, gentle, calm and analytical. My mom's husband actually nicknamed him "Manny" because he reminded him of German philosopher Immanuel Kant. Ha, I guess you never know:)
Easy times. Maybe we should all just move to Florida.
Alex jokes that this second shot is the emblematic photo of his relationship with Anton. He's always trying to steal those glasses!
And a few more family photos:)

Other highlights: Toby slept in a Mickey Mouse bed! My mom made three dozen chocolate chip cookies! Anton learned to wave! Thank you so much for having us, Mom and Harvey:)

We're already itching to take another trip. Travel begets travel, don't you think? Do you have any fun vacations coming up?

Nice sandals! I wear Saltwater sandals, too, and I haven't gone a summer without a pair since I started walking... which was quite some time ago.

yes, they're so great! and comfortable.

So glad you got to have a little escape. I'm coming up to NYC for the weekend, and I'm already uneasy about having to wear long pants/light sweaters again. :\ But I'm still excited! :)

Great photos! Toby looks like a little puppy gulping up the warm air and Anton looks pretty fascinated with the fist fulls of dirt. We would love to get away - thankfully the weather in Toronto SEEMS to be starting to turn to spring (fingers crossed!)

Btw Joanna - has anyone ever mentioned you look a lot like Alexa Chung? There have been a lot of photos of her around recently due to the rumours that she was part of the "concious uncoupling" and I actually thought it was a shot of you at first glance!

Love your sweet little family, Joanna!

Just returned from Playa del Carmen. The warm sun on my skin and dipping my toes in the Caribbean waters felt so, so good after this miserably long and cold NYC winter.

I'm in Toronto but am actually heading down to Naples too next week! Just like you said "It felt so good to stretch our legs!" I can't wait to swim about in the pool/ocean and work my knees on a bike ride into town. My boyfriend is so excited to go he says he wants to wear his bathing suit under his pants on the flight, and then immediately strip down and jump in the pool when we get there. It's been a long winter! Just 9 more days!

These photos are just so sweet. And I won't lie, I'm kind of jealous and thinking I need to get myself to the beach ASAP!

You guys should check out central Florida. You'd love Mount Dora (where I live) and Winter Park, and New Smyrna's the best local beach.

I've been following your blog for a few years now but this most recent post surprised me in showing how big Toby has gotten. He used to be a little squishy ball and now he's practically out of toddler phase, crazy!!

Love quick weekend getaways! In DC, it is always fun to venture to Virginia wine country. The rolling hills and farms surrounding the wineries are so picturesque – and the wine’s not bad either!

One of the perks of living within about 5 hours of Florida. You should try the Rosemary Beach area in Florida. It is pure heaven on earth. The most gorgeous beaches in this country I am convinced.

What a huge grin on Anton's face in that one pic with your mom. I don't think I've seen him smile that big on the blog before...he usually looks pensive. "Manny" may not be far off...

Since my husband and I live in dry, parched California, we decided to take a snowboarding trip to Washington last weekend. We had an amazing time!! We both were craving some good snow to ride in and just...get away. Washington State is gorgeous and everyone was SO friendly. We missed our daughter a ton but it was also so nice to reconnect.

Your family pictures in FL are great. Looks like Toby had a fabulous time on the beach!!
Cheers to you!
