Have a lovely weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? My dad is coming to visit, and we're planning to go to the Museum of Natural History in the morning and show him the views from our building's roof deck at night. We can't wait to see him! Hope you have a good one, and here are a few fun posts from around the web...

The list of animals who can dance is very short. And very cute.

A new pigeon book!!! Love that guy.

The secret to the perfect grilled cheese.

15 people who didn't know the Titanic was real.

Breast pumps should be as elegant as an iPhone and as quiet as a Prius by now.

A wonderful app for meditating.

Should Paris love locks be banned?

What Kevin Bacon thought about the "Six Degrees" game.

Two beautiful spring dresses: striped and white.

Made me laugh.

People are starting to dress like Seinfeld.

The one word that should never follow I love you.

If you're scared of heights, don't look at this...

Have a great weekend! And just wanted to say that I love your comments so much—and they were especially interesting on this post; it's such a pleasure to chat with likeminded women about so many things. :)

No offense, but if I could ever use a breast pump and have a child, I wouldn't *care* how loud or ridiculously cumbersome it was.

As someone who locked a love lock on the Pont de l'Archevêché last spring, I say no to banning them! :) But they are getting pretty out of hand.

Didn't you have a link to some coconut oil chocolate chip cookies recently? I made them last week and I feel like I saw the link on your blog, but now I can't find it anywhere?! Tell me I'm not insane. They were amazing cookies. The only ones my very particular-when-it-comes-to-chocolate-chip-cookies Husband ever liked. I can't even find it in my browser history!

Help if you can!

I legitimately look forward to these posts every Friday. I don't know how you find so many interesting articles every week but they're just great. I especially enjoyed the "I love you, but" article. Thanks for sharing and happy Friday!

I am going to use the Calm app all the time. Counting down 62 days until I take the USMLE step 1... eek! Funny how we have to be reminded to breathe.

My dad's coming this weekend, too! We're planning brunch, visit to the brand new Downtown San Diego Library, show him my new home & kittens along with wine & canapes. Couldn't be more excited! Hope you have a great one with your dad :)
Now I'll go check out all the awesome links you gave us...

Ah, now the tv ad Kevin bacon did for a uk mobile phone company, where he links together actors in a six degrees of separation style, makes so much more sense!!

I like the article on what not to say after 'I love you'- so true...when you throw that one little pesky word in there, it basically says: disregard the first part of this sentence, here's what I'm really trying to say.

hee hee made me laugh too!

I knew it was going to be "but". I'm guilty.

Thanks so much for the article about not saying "I love you, BUT...". I wish everybody could read it and realize that this way they're hurting their beloved ones. I used to say this a lot to my boyfriend, who never said to me, and I think it was one of the things that led us to split up.

I can't wait to "meet" Caroline! :) Have a nice weekend!

Writing about my (ex)boyfriend I've just remembered I wanted to ask you about unsent "forgive me" letters, cause is something I've done only once in my but it was pretty therapeutic, too. It was just after reading "The mirror rule" by Yoshinori Noguchi (if you haven't read it, do it, it won't take you more than 2 hours and you'll cry and you'll feel guilty and you'll feel grateful and full of love :) and it helped me a lot.

Joanna this is so anal, but do you think you'll ever make it so that you can directly reply to comments? The way it is now you usually mention someone's name and respond, but then I have to scroll back up and see which comment you're responding to, which makes the comments seem less like a dialogue and more of a scavenger hunt. I've seen people mention this before, but yours is one of the only blogs where I scroll through the comments as well because the conversation can be really rich.

I saw that article in The Guardian this week also and I cannot believe it! I have always had the whole hanging a love lock on the Pont des Arts on my bucket list but I guess I've never really thought about the repercussions... still, I think they look so beautiful and should be kept! I'm from Germany and we're very fond of our love locks on the Hohenzollernbrücke in Cologne. There's even a song about it and all!

Joanna, I just adore your life. As a teenager, I have always suffered from the boredom of mine. That's why I started this blog yesterday where I finally can be myself and tell all my secrets. This can be the change I have always needed to improve my personnality. If you could help by checking my blog or getting people to check it, I would be so grateful to you and you will know that you had changed a life. http://thediaryofaboringkid.blogspot.com/

When I saw the title about what word should never come after love, I knew instinctively what it was. I think we all did. Because we all say it.

I'm grateful for the reminder NOT to say it.

YES a new Pigeon book!! I am immediately going to have to get this one bc we love them all and my boys HATE to take baths. Maybe this will help things along;)

I totally agree with the article about the love locks, it has gone completely out of control! and the thing is, it hardly qualifies for "iconic" or "traditional": it all started only 6 years ago. Beyond the whole safety issue, i wonder why people fell that they have to leave such a mark on their surroundings… plus, those locks will definitely not stay there "forever", as the city has to remove them regularly so the bridges don't collapse. So all in all, it's not a very smart thing to do. Paris offers many other other traditions and iconic activities for lovers :)

Ohhhh the breast pump article. Makes me so sad because it is so true. Grrrr to men and their ways of making us feel inferior without us even realizing it!

Emily said...

YOU GUYS! The breast pump! They just came out with something in November 2013 called the Freemie. I've been using it for about 4 months now and it is SO much better than any other pump. The cups go inside your bra so you don't have those stupid things hanging from your nipples. I can have my shirt on while pumping. I can do it in front of my husband without feeling terribly unsexy. I mean, it's still not the best...but SO MUCH BETTER. Check it out. http://www.freemie.com/

I'm with OrangeTree. The locks are hideous and hardly "iconic." When we were in Paris last fall, not only were the bridges covered over with every kind of household lock, the layers of locks were covered over again with spray-painted graffiti.

It's vandalism, pure and simple. Not to mention the littering of the bottom of the Seine with the tossed keys. If your love is that special, why not find a more original way to celebrate it? :)
