The best part of summer.

We played with balloon rockets again this weekend and I forgot how much fun they were. They soar above trees and buildings! Alex and I loved them as much as the kiddos. We're stocking up for the summer. Highly recommended for picnics and family hangs.

I've never played with these outside - are you a Le to catch them or find them so that you aren't leaving the balloons as litter?

We had an big dose of summer this weekend in San Diego. Whew, it's been over 90 degrees for the past two Sundays. I'm not a shorts-wearing-type but I had to bust out one of four pairs I own along with some self tanner (as not to scare the neighbors) to avoid melting.

I sincerely hope that these are either biodegradable or people are only playing with them indoors...

Not trying not to leave not a "nice comment" but people should know that it's very dangerous to many animals to release balloons that you don't collect...

I hate to be a downer, but my immediate reaction to balloons is, like others above, the litter. It seems very irresponsible in this day and age, assuming you are playing with them outdoors. Also, I just read that balloons are responsible for a sizable majority of (fatal) choking incidents for kids under 3--something like 30%. I would play with these things using a whole heap of caution.

chiming in on the dangerous-to-animals point; these look like a lot of fun, but please, please be sure to retrieve every last one. they cause really heartbreaking injuries to wildlife.

cobies, you can't really catch them but you can easily find them afterward. we always pick them all up.

Joanna Goddard said...

we pick them all up, don't worry! they don't go far, they just go straight up in the air and then you can see exactly where they land.

liz, i'm so jealous :)

These are so cool! Funny enough, we were out with ours this weekend. And while my eco conscious self was a bit conflicted, bonus points to the fact that they're reusable and easy to retrieve! I don't think we necissarily have to deprave ourselves of these types things! Just use sparingly and with good sense! They're super fun and a great lesson in physics, lol

So I should have read the comments before commenting myself!

I love these balloons! Plus you can actually reuse them multiple times, better than water balloons or something with batteries.

my child is so terrified of these things, it's insane. we have to leave the park anytime someone pulls them out !

I read your lovely blog daily (I even remember receiving a reply email from you once when I wrote with a question!) and I can't believe this (this!) is the first time I've ever seen a pseudo "controversy" on here. Over balloons! Absolutely - 101% - it's paramount that they don't become bird food. But I just find it so unexpected that, with posts on morning sex, thongs, birth stories, depression... This is the first I ever known to invoke a bit of bite. Who would have thought!

Thank you for this post!! I'm about to embark on my maiden voyage in baby haircutting and this post saved me from a lot of bad youtube tutorials. My 1 year old son's hair thanks you, too ;)
