Have a beautiful weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? Last night we saw the incredible movie Her. Have you seen it yet? The color palette was exquisite—everything was dusty pink, orange or red—and the story was so compelling. (As the NYTimes review said, she's just a voice, "but oh what a voice.") We really loved it. Also, thanks for all your fun comments this week—it's so nice to be back! Hope you have a good weekend, and here are a few great posts from around the web...

Kate Middleton is just as awkward as the rest of us.

My boyfriend and I saw it and loved it! I was actually surprised. I had to keep reminding myself throughout that she was just meant to be an operating system. I also loved the color palette.

I love Kate Middleton! She is absolutely adorable, and what's so great is how down to earth she is because she wasn't raised to be the pick of the crop, so she has this totally charming wholeness about her. I love the way she laughs like she can't control herself, because I always issue these over-embellished laughs that I'm sure make me look like a total goob. :D

I saw Her a couple of days ago and it was so beautiful and touching. My longtime boyfriend and I just recently broke up and I went at a matinee time on a weekday and there were only a handful of other people in there and I thought I would sob through the whole thing but the tone was perfect and I didn't cry once. I loved it so much.

My husband and I saw Her this weekend. I thought it was intelligently made and interesting. But so sad! Sci-fi always leaves me feeling a little funny afterward, although I do love me some Joaquin Phoenix pretty much anytime.

That Kate Middleton link was so adorable. Also, I've been meaning to watch Her... all of the reviews that I've read so far have been nothing but complimentary about the film, though it's hard to get my mind around the concept of it. But it's certainly an interesting and relevant idea in today's tech-obsessed world!

I think Her is overrated. Although I found it improved in the second half, some of the dialogue is pretty bad and I don't like Phoenix as an actor in it. Scarlett's performance is fab, I will give it that. And the look of it is stunning. But as a movie - 'meh'.

Lael Dalal said...

I loved Her, but I was surprised at how white washed the movie was- not one person of color, even in the background! That was pretty frustrating. If I were Spike Jonze, I would make sure I included a little more encompassing array of ethnicities, especially in a movie about the future, when hopefully we would become more comfortable blending together...
