Party tip: Roaring fire on a TV

We went to our friend's holiday party last weekend, and, although he doesn't have a fireplace in his small apartment, he had a roaring fire on his TV. Apparently, it's a netflix video. Genius!

(Wouldn't it be awesome to pair with a a fireplace-scented candle?)

P.S. How to help your guests relax and how to give a high five.

We always turn the TV fire on for Christmas morning at my husband's parent's house. It even crackles and slowly dies down! I think they have a DVD of the fire. Surprisingly, it makes the room feel much cozier.

We don't have a fireplace either and we use the Netflix fireplace all of the time, with a campfire candle. #makeitwork

Ha! My sister had this on the TV the other day - and the sound! The crackling and hum...apparently, my nephew likes it. Though, they do have a real fireplace as well. Ah, technology.

Yule Log 2.0

Oh yes, the Yule Log! It's a cheesy family tradition for us, mostly because I'm obsessed with how funny it is. (And that's really in that it's not funny at all, but actually quite lame.) They have it on most on demand features, as well as on public TV on Christmas morning. We all die laughing from trying to be the one to spot the Santa hand poking the fire. Yeah... the reasoning behind some family traditions are unexplainable to those outside the family. :)

One of my local TV stations has been doing this for well over a decade now. I always thought it was a cute idea!!

Totally genius! Will have to keep this in mind!

We do this every year, too. It's kind of silly but we totally enjoy it.

We did this with our TV in the office during our Christmas open house. It really "warms" up the room. There is also a TV channel that plays the Christmas log all day on Christmas with Christmas music in the background, my family would have it on while we opened presents when I was a kid.

We don't have a fireplace and so we play this on chilly nights for fun. One night, for some reason the closed captioning was turned on, so every few minutes it alerted us of the [crackling] and [popping].

My friend has a Disney one where Tinker Bell lights it up and you see Disney Characters in the shadows of the fire! It's really cute! She has one on DVD, but there are tons of YouTube. Who would have thought?

Growing up in Canada, there was always a TV channel that would do nothing but show the yuletide log all holiday season. Everybody I know loved it - and I think they still do it! I know that I've got the app on my iPad.....

We have FIOS and if you do a search in On Demand for "Yule" you get the fireplace loop for free!

They have a station in Canada that has a wood burning fireplace on 24 hour cycle for several weeks leading up to the holiday. There is actually a man on the East Coast of Canada that stocks the fire (and makes a hand cameo every once in awhile). Several years back the tv stations attempted to put on other programming during this period and it created an uproar.

After I saw this post someone posted the following to Twitter - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3Vuwop3MGA

The official trailer for "Fireplace for your Home," so funny!

"I cried when the fire spread to the other log."

In Canada, we have entire TV channels dedicated to the "fire log" and every so often, a hand will appear to replace add a log and stoke the fire.

THANK YOU! This is such a great idea. I'm hosting Christmas this year (without a fireplace). Wouldn't have thought of this on my own!

Glad to see so many others watch "The Yule Log" also. Here in Wash. DC., we've been watching it every Christmas from out of Baltimore, MD. for probably well over 30 years now.
I have the feeling a lot more secretly watch it...along the lines of a "guilty pleasure", which is silly. It's lovely. Enjoy it!
