Have a sweet weekend.

What are your plans for this weekend? Alex's birthday is tomorrow, so we'll have having cake and candles...but maybe not singing Happy Birthday:) Also, thank you so much for the amazing emails about the reader makeovers; everyone who wrote was so cute and funny. It's going to be impossible to pick three people! Hope you have a good one, and here are a few fun posts from around the web...

A song for your weekend.

A Michigan tattoo!

Men in love walk more slowly.

Craving these fried bananas.

Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, a coffeetable book.

Why we need sleep.

Paying it forward in the drive-thru.

Would you wear tangerine lipstick?

How popcorn took over movie theaters.

Cute new bags.

This cat made me laugh.

A half-birthday cake.

Skootcase.

This picture of Anton is so sweet! We had our little guy in August, so it's fun to see what you guys are up to!

I love paying it forward at the drive thru! Especially on Monday mornings when everyone is always rushing or in a bad mood. I like to think that getting a free coffee might turn the day around for them right then and there! (:

Also, Anton should be the new face of Pinhole Press because that picture is just too cute, haha.

"Pretty cool. But these folks ought to pay forward some fruits and vegetables once in a while."

Wow, this sentence rubs me off so wrong!

It's incredibly annoying how people who prefer (and can afford) all kinds of organic stuff look down and diminish the choices of those who don't (and eat at fast food restaurants).

The writer had JUST gotten done quoting the woman that pays it forward. It was a quote about letting people know that there are good people in the world.

Then the writer turns around and instead of saying "Next time I am going to pay forward fruits and vegetables for someone else" she says "oh...these people OUGHT to pay forward something other than dirty fast food next time!"

ugh.

And the first two comments on the Skootcase link made me laugh out loud at work. HA! Good stuff (the case and the comments)! Have a fabulous weekend!

And I guess I missed the post about the birthday singing. Oh, Toby we know how you feel. We sing Happy Birthday but we don't do candles - my newly minted 3 year old bursts into tears (and has since before he was 2.) Now he says: "Fire is scary! No fire!" Sigh.

Love the Michigan tattoo! I only wish they would have included the other hand in the picture to represent the Upper Peninsula as well. Michigan just isn't complete without it ;)

Dear Joanna,
I just wanted to let you know, I enjoy reading your blog. Very much so that i find myself thinking "I love this blog" at the end of each new read. I figured I've said that to myself enough times now that I should say it to you.

Thanks. Have a good weekend!

The Michigan tattoo is funny. Have you ever met someone from WV? Well to tell where you are from in WV, you hold up your left hand (palm down). The thumb is the eastern panhandle, the middle finger the northern panhandle, and then you bend the other fingers at the lowest knuckle. Looks just like one of the oddest shaped states in the nation.

Oh my goodness, I just tried the fried banana on toast for breakfast and it was so good. Thanks for the link!

I've been making those fried bananas and they are SO GOOD. When I originally saw the recipe, it reminded me that my grandmother used to make me fried bananas just like that and put them on toast for breakfast. :)

oh and may I ask what you got for Alex? My husband's birthday is next month, and every single time he buys everything he needs the month before, so it always is a struggle for me to find ideas. I know it's super personal, but some men really don't need lots of things! (well... we all know what they need... ;)

For my son's half birthday this year (4.5), I had it marked in my calendar and we baked a half of a cake. Just for fun, a "just because" celebration. Not because I think he did anything remarkable or deserved presents or wanted people to wish him a happy half-birthday. I took a cute pic and posted it on fb, and got plenty of posts about what a cute idea it is. BUT! I couldn't believe. One mom with a teenage daughter posted something about how the only people who deserve additional birthday attention are those whose birthdays are Christmas week, and "everyone else should just be grateful for what they got." And several people liked the comment! It was so unnecessary and hurtful. So be warned! Some people may take it the wrong way!
