Little Anton!

Late one night, I took these photos of Anton chilling on my legs. His little expressions kill me! It has been a pleasure getting to know him over the past three weeks. The other day, Alex and I were half-jokingly trying to spot personality traits, and I said that he seems like a hard worker. It sounds weird, but he really does seem to be concentrating so earnestly on figuring out how how to eat, sleep and generally be alive.

Oh, Anton. You have stolen my heart a million times over.

P.S. If you'd like to see more photos, I post them now and again on Instagram. xo

What a fine quality to have so early in life! You must be one proud mama :) Is it hard juggling two little ones? I am always so impressed when people have more than one baby or toddler. Moms (and dads!) are the world's truest superheroes.

Also, your freckly legs are so cute!

Are your kids going to be Toby and Tony in the future? Or do you think you'll just be calling him Anton?

Aw, what a neat first trait - being a hard worker will definitely serve him well in life. xo!

Oh, that little mouth! Anton looks so knowing for such a little guy. I love how he is looking into the camera on that last pic. He is an intellectual, for sure!

It's interesting because I never knew that habits could be inherited. For example, my daughter Miya, at 1 week, to rub and nuzzle her face on a soft surface before going to sleep. At night, that is exactly what I would do on my pillow before I doze off. It was the strangest thing when I recognized that we both have that little habit!

There will be a multitude of personality similarities that you will see in the scope of the next year. I am particularly excited for Toby to recognize some things he likes doing that Anton will do too. I know my oldest LOVES seeing how similar she and her little sister are. It'll be a blast!

He is too cute!! Reminds me alot of Toby at that age. Y'all are such a gorgeous family!

We don't have family that lives near us-we are pregnant now, and wondering what we are gonna do with our 2 year old when labor starts. Would love to see a post on this one day.

Rest up and enjoy that little one!

So cute! And he gets it from his mama (okay, and his papa I'm sure)! 3 weeks and you haven't missed a beat. Hats off to you and all of the parents who work right through. Have a great weekend!

thanks for these sweet notes! katerine, we're going to call him the full Anton (vs tony) although we've already started the nickname Antoni. :)

Its so funny to me that you said he looks hard working. My second child also seemed very serious and always concentrating and although she is a now very perky, somewhat wild 13 year old, she is indeed very hard working. Maybe, even at 3 weeks, he is trying diligently to catch up to his big brother?

Joanna Goddard said...

diana, huge congratulations! we had our friends' husbands "on call" the week i was due, and one of them came over in a cab as soon as my water broke. then our babysitter met him here about an hour later (she lives farther away). that worked well for us. maybe friends' husbands will be able to help out in your case? or you could have a college sitter on call for that night? it will be such an exciting time for you guys regardless! :)

Congrats! I have a 3 month old and I think she will be an actress, very dramatic little thing, so I know what you mean, lol. Anton is beautiful!

Man oh man he's so sweet!

I love how babies have that wrinkly skin that you almost think if they took a big stretch they'd nearly stretch into their skin and fill it out! Ohhh the flippin cuteness! You must be over the moon that Anton has arrived safe and sound.

I hope Toby has taken to the role of being a big brother well, it's a full time job being the eldest and sometimes people underestimate it. xo

Oh how lovely - thank you for sharing! These remind me so much of the "Wallace Sherman" pic you posted of Toby when he was a tiny wee babe. So glad to hear that things are going well. Can't wait to hear about the whole experience of number 2, how it's evolved your family, how Toby is doing, etc., when you're ready. Meanwhile, enjoy your time (and get some rest!) - so precious!!

Lana said...

Agh! He looks like the little old man at the end of The Giving Tree! Is there anything better than a new baby moments before they start to fill out? Long skinny limbs, feet like skis, adorable baby birds is what they are! :)

what a true doll!

soak up this precious time, it goes by so fast as we've learned with our first baby that is already four months! where does the time go? i bet you think that about toby all of the time.

looking forward to hearing more about this second little babe and how your family is... also curious if you used hypnobirthing at all? i remember you mentioning it a while back here and on twitter.

huge congratulations to you and alex!

This was such a surprise to me too! The other night, I commented to my husband that it's so funny how our two-year-old daughter will, before she falls into her deepest sleep, lay on her stomach and tuck her arms tightly at her sides so that her hands are directly under her thighs. He replied that that was the only way that he could fall asleep when he was a child too!

I feel like I've also seen photos of babies/children and their parents asleep in the exact same post (arms up, or hands behind their heads, whatever). So interesting!

Thanks for the reply Jo! Totally made my day:)
I've been a reader since you were pregnant with Toby, I just don't comment too often.
That's a good idea about getting a babysitter on call- I had a nightmare last night that we forgot her at home. I figured it might be time to come up with some sort of plan. I don't know if I trust my husbands friends to wake up and be reliable (not
Inducing as we are aiming for a VBAC).

I'm also excited to hear you've gotten skilled in using your phone while breastfeeding! It made a world of difference for me, and I got really good at eating, surfing, and reading one handed by about 3 months! Rest up and savor this time! Loving your mothers around the World Series. That is just THE coolest.

Oh! I photographed a one month old baby yesterday, and what I loved watching, was the way her arms slowly waved around, as if swimming slowly (or Dancing to a grateful dead tune). It sort of cracked me up. Sweet as pie. xo

He's so cute! Are we getting an Anton birth story when (if?) things settle down over there?

Jessi said...

He's perfect! I know what you mean! I was irrationally afraid that I wouldn't love my second child as much as my first, but that is just a huge misconception! I love them both, he melted my heart and made me adore him just like his older sister!

I haven't had or known anyone with babies yet. Often I think people say babies all look the same, but I think newborn Anton (especially in the July 8 photo where he's wrapped in a blanket) looks really different from Toby. I guess that makes sense because they're different people... I just never had the opportunity to notice.

Hi Joanna,
congrats to your new baby Anton! As a German mum of a little two year old boy called Anton ;-) I find it very cool that this name is so international! I always thought it's "Anthony" in English. In Germany Anton is a rather old fashioned name, we named our boy after the famous childrens book "Pünktchen & Anton" by Erich Kästner. I don't know if its available in the US but I can highly recommend it! So I am very happy for you and cute little Anton and wish you and your family all the best!
