Kids trying new foods

Have you seen this slow-motion video of kids trying new foods? It's hilarious. Whenever Toby doesn't like something, he'll just open his mouth and just let it fall out, which always makes me laugh since he clearly doesn't have any concern about what happens next or who (me) has to pick up the food. Toddlers!

We're traveling back from San Francisco today, so I'll see you tomorrow with photos! Have a good one. xoxo

P.S. How to eat like a French child.

This is hilarious. I think I still make some of the same expressions when trying new foods. Anchovies?! Eek!

Can't wait to see some of your SF photos!

Ha! Great! I love that description of Toby just opening his mouth to let the new food fall out. My youngest Emil does that too and it is quite funny. Kids are so great and amazing.

SF is beautiful! And can't beat the weather/climate. As to video - I think children trying new foods is the best, i could do a double feature. We all need more laughter in our lives :)

So cute! My kid was obsessed with pickles, olives and pepperoncinis since very little age and he still is:).

That is lovely. I am curious - I remember reading your post about eating like French children and I was wondering if you or anyone else has tried it and kept it as a method.

Hope you had a great time in FRISCO BABY!!!

so funny! loved the epic music:) it's funny how each kid reacts differently to new stuff. in my family, my brother freddie will say he doesn't like it even before putting it in his mouth while benet likes everything and will put in his mouth anything you give him!

So funny! Olive girl looks simply victorious. This reminds me of the music video for "Two Weeks" by Grizzly Bear, but without the scary light coming out of their mouths.

This reminds me of something I saw at the market the other day. I live in Germany, and this mama and her baby were just chilling by the cheese case, sampling the wares. The baby was probably about 18 months, and the mama would pop a tiny square of cheese into her mouth and ask if she liked it. I thought it was a sweet and adorable way to get the child's tastebuds stimulated.

cute video. that girl looks far too old to just now be having her first olive. she's already missed out on at least a year of running around with olives on the tips of her fingers - one of the biggest delights of childhood. :)

Ford does the same thing as Toby when he doesn't like food. Too funny! The lemon face is classic.

I still make the faces of the girl eating the olive--but without the happiness at the end. Haha, I don't know that I'll ever get over my olive aversion!

Amazing! It's awesome to see the different reactions! Some of them are so incredibly animated about their food (whether it's good or bad), but a few are so stunned by the flavor they just kind of pause.

You should see the video of my niece trying kiwi for the first time when she was nine months old. She loved it, but the tartness caused her to make such funny faces!

That little girl rockin' the 90's vest was definitely my favorite.

The fact that they slowed it down and added such inspirational music behind it reminded me of the replays of winning athletes at the Olympics... Brilliant :)

Ha! It doesn't seem to get better with age. My 5 year old tried cheesecake yesterday. First, she smelled it "yuuuuuuum." Then she ate it, "hmmmmmm." Then she spit it back out and calmly said "tastes like throw-up, do you want it Mommy?"

Genius!
This morning I found the coolest compilation of kids songs performed by some of my favorite artists. I don't have any kids to share it with, but Toby may like it!

The Poopsmith Song is my favorite so far :)

I admire your patience! My kids were not allowed to spit food out I'm afraid. They told us they didn't like it, were given a glass of water to wash out the bad taste, but no spitting! (Remember Pamela Druckerman and that French respect for food? :) ) My kids like the craziest things and dislike lots of weird ones like my daughter loves spinach and red beets, but won't ever take more than a couple of bites off her croissant or pain au chocolat, go figure!

Ha! My boyfriend (whose name is Toby, by the way) showed this to me last night, so cute! Also, how old is that kid who is trying a lemon for the first time?! That one was surprising to me.

I grew up eating Marmite - the UK equivalent of Vegemite - and I still find it hilarious when my Canadian friends try some on a cracker, they usually gag and spit it out!
