The New York Times recently ran a short piece about these insane free-fall slides on a Norwegian cruise line. You stand on a platform four stories high and then the floor suddenly falls out beneath you. Would you dare?!

Sounds frightening, but fun!
ReplyDeletei just did that in Nürnberg last weekend. Hit my head so badly but had tons of fun though! :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen these ships, and they are amazing!
ReplyDeleteTry going to a water park, when the babies (!) are old enough to enjoy it! we have a big themed one here (the story is around Greek mythology and it's actually nice!) and we still love going there, even after 10 times! Not all slides are scary, some are actually relaxing and exhilarating if you take a breath and relax for the ride!
It is actually very fun and terrifying at the same time! I went on a slide like this in Florida and would totally do it again. I have been pushing myself to do anything that freaks me out a little.

I've done these slides at the Six Flags water park outside Chicago. They are definitely scary at first, but the worst part is you spend the whole way down choking on the water flying up your nose and mouth as you zoom down...too bad :(
ReplyDeleteARGH! NO! (I'm a huge scaredy-cat)....
ReplyDeletemaybe i'd try it, but only if the slides were not on a cruise ship. but still, seems like the ultimate recipe for a wedgey right?

No way! The fear would outweigh the fun for me!
ReplyDeletei would lose my mind. neat article, thanks.

My bottom is tingling just looking at that. Me thinks not!
ReplyDeleteThat makes this Christian girl want to cuss so, I'll pass! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid of height, not ever!
ReplyDeleteI would love to do that RIGHT NOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteI did the Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach/Disney when I was a teenager. We laughed watching everyone pick their massive wedgies after they came down!
ReplyDeleteHELLS no!! I would never :) But I bet the hubs would!
ReplyDeleteI have seen these slides in real life (not the cruise ship ones specifically though). No. Way. In. Hell. I think they're called aqua loops. So scary. I love waterslides but I would not do this haha. I like the slower, less steep ones!!
ReplyDeleteexactly with Jamie said. HELLS NO!

ReplyDeleteI've done it at Noah's Arc Waterpark in the Wisconsin Dells! I have to admit I was really nervous waiting for the ride, and when I stepped in the tube and heard them count down "THREE... TWO.... ONE..." my heart was pounding! But once the floor dropped out and I was in free fall, is was super exhilarating and FUN! The only reason I didn't get back in line is it would've been another 1.5-hour wait!
ReplyDeleteSounds fantastically fun!
ReplyDeleteOh my god, there is no way in hell I would do this. I won't even go on a drop slide, I'm terrified of just missing the edge of the slide and falling to my death!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! Would I do it? Probably not! I've never been a fan of rides, always too nervous. The horse carousel ride is enough for me :)
ReplyDeleteTotally.
ReplyDeletethe way it goes back up after you fall is the scariest looking part. I would be afraid I would accidentally swing and arm out and come out in 100 broken pieces:)
ReplyDeleteThe floor suddenly falls?!?!?!? Ummm hmmm...I may have to stay on land for this one!!! =)

I have done that! At west edmonton mall in canada they have a few like that. You step in and there is a count down like 3...2..1.. and then a beep and you fall. I don't know if the guy was doing it on purpose but my countdown was 3...2..1.. nothing. 3...2..1.. nothing. 3..2..1.. AHHHHHHH! It was really fun though.
ReplyDeleteNo, I wouldn't dare...ride on a cruise ship.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like so much fun! I'm crazy for rollercoasters and water parks - this is going straight on my Must Do List!

I would promptly barf.
ReplyDeleteUmmm...NO THANK YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteI am terrified of heights and roller coaster things, but last summer I went on a water slide and while I did not really enjoy it per say, I am so glad to have done it! An experience worth having!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so scary but so cool too!

Yes, but I have no interest in cruises. Blech.
ReplyDeleteThat would be such a rush! I'd love to try it (if I could get the guts, that is). Kind of like a roller coaster without seat belts!
ReplyDeleteMakes me dizzy just to look at! Gosh, I wished I'd never grown out of that fearlessness I had as a child.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun!

that is so awesome! BUT, I would be too big of a scaredy cat!
ReplyDeleteAh.....no.
ReplyDeleteI have experienced this type of waterslide at 'Wet n Wiid'on the Gold Coast in Australia. Its called the Aqua Drop.
ReplyDeleteIt is THE most terrifying thing I have done! There is a count down from 3-1 with a voice like an elevator operator-very calm.
Will never do it again!

sounds like my worst nightmare! heh...
ReplyDeleteTerrifying! No way jose
ReplyDeletedespite being 31 i still get giddy as a schoolgirl when i see waterslides of any kind. but i feel that i lose my daringness and bravery when it comes to physical activity with each passing year. this needs to be overcome, so: hell yeah, i'd challenge myself to do this!
ReplyDeleteHeck yeah!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd have a heart attack. And ever since I got a really nasty brush burn on a slide when I was little I've hated them anyway!
