NatureBox snacks

Do you ever get in a food rut? We find ourselves cooking the same few things for dinner, going to the same few restaurants, and eating the same snacks over and over (I'm looking at you, hummus). So, this past fall, I was psyched to discover the snack subscription NatureBox. Have you heard of them? They send you...

...five bags of natural snacks every month. Suddenly we found ourselves enjoying blueberry almond bites, cinnamon-spiced almonds, banana chips, vanilla granola, lemon pucker pistachios, yogurt pretzels, dried pears and all sorts of treats. Toby loves them so much that it makes my heart sing. The snacks are so much yummier and healthier than some of the other kid and grown-up snacks we’ve eaten in the past.

You can sign up for the regular NatureBox (5 bags for $19.95), the Family Snacker (10 bags for $29.95) or the Professional Snacker (20 bags for $59.95). To be honest, I initially wondered if the snacks seemed expensive, but they're actually comparable to buying from Whole Foods or gourmet groceries. It works out to $3 or $4 per bag, which is amazing. And you can choose the exact snacks you want or let them surprise you.

Anyway, I'd highly recommend them:) Bonus: NatureBox is offering $5 off your first box with the code CUPOFJO, good for two weeks.
(When we were taking these photos, I think Toby couldn't believe that I was randomly letting him just tuck into a whole bag of crackers himself. He was like, "Really?! You're sure?! Okay then!!!")
(This post is sponsored by NatureBox, whose mission and snacks I adore. Photos by Alpha Smoot for Cup of Jo. Thanks, Alpha!)

So, in other words, YES, they're expensive ;)

However wholesome food like this is always more expensive because it costs more to produce, and it's worth it in the long run to avoid feeding ourselves and our children too many preservatives and over-processed junk. This is a great find! Thanks for sharing Joanna!

  5. Those pictures of Toby are just hilarious. That does seem pretty reasonably priced, though I can imagine myself eating all the snacks before the month is over!

  10. So I guess curbing Toby's snacks a la Bringing Up Bebe didn't work out? Not trying to be snarky, just curious if you tried it or not.

    1. Margaret I was wondering too! I just finished reading "French Kids Eat Everything", and 'no snacking' was a huge rule. Everything else in the book made sense to me, but no snacks with little kids kinda blew my mind-- honestly having snacks on hand was a lifesaver during my nanny-ing days:)

    2. Hi Gaia, I'm French and for me snacks are very American -- just like posed family pictures on holidays greetings cards ;) But the NatureBox sounds really yummy! French kids have a "goûter", kind of big snack/small meal, at 4 or 5 in the afternoon (dinner at 7 or 8pm in France). And I'll definitely check the book you're talking about, I'm curious!

    3. Oh, man! Now I have another addition to my books to read in 2013! How interesting...Grace loves to snack, but she'll eat greens and sardines like it's nobody's business! :)

  21. While i am very tempted to try this, i also feel that spending $20/month on snacks is expensive. Yes the snacks are healthy, but once can gets nuts and dry fruits for much cheaper. I also wonder if subscribing to something like this will force us to bing? Also curious to know if those 5 packets are really sufficient for the entire month? Any thought??

  34. A couple questions, as I'm intrigued. Are these organic at all, or just healthy/natural. Also, about how many ounces on average are the bags? Honestly, a lot of the healthier foods do tend to run on the pricier side, but it is often worth it for what you get nutrition-wise!

  35. Yummy! Those do look delicious!

  36. Gosh I adore pistachio's. Did you ever read 'the pistachio prescription' by Judy Blume when you were younger? I think we all need a prescription of pistachios from time to time!

  39. I'm not a picky eater but if I'm not feeling especially drawn to anything on that site then I doubt my kids will be jumping for joy. I've been eating the same snack since I was Toby's age and I don't think of it as being in a rut. A wedge of cheese and some crackers and I'm good to go. I like it. I bring whatever cheese is lying around the house so it is usually Brie, Camembert or sharp cheddar. Sometimes I'll bring a bit of Boursin but I hate having that on my breath. My kids live off of wheat thins, cheddar cheese sticks and apples with Jiff Peanut butter. We are very adventurous when it comes to cooking dinner though and eating out.

  44. Have you tried Sprigbox? Same concept but not limited to nuts/granola, and instead supports small businesses whose organic/vegan/natural snacks aren't sold at TJ's or Whole Foods... Just received my first Mini-Snacker box. Love the products but it's too small! May have to upgrade to the Snacker...

  54. I just ordered these! With your promo code, you really can't beat the price- especially if you upgrade to the $29.95 package. I can't wait to taste the Dark Chocolate Trail Mix and the Garlic Roasted Pumpkin Seeds. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think this is a great idea! Maybe not as much for regular family snacks, as some others have mentioned that you can buy these for the same price at a grocery store or cheaper in bulk. But I love this as a gift idea, like care packages for a college student. I would love to send this to my husband at work, as he spends long hours in front of a computer and I worry about him eating pop tarts from the office vending machine! :P Thanks, Joanna!
(And Toby is SOO cute! Little heartbreaker)

  60. Here in the UK there's something similar called Graze Boxes (https://www.graze.com/uk/). They come once or twice a week, as you like, and they fit through your letterbox. I interviewed the guy behind it, Simon Morris (http://moreintelligentlife.com/node/3696) and he was a kickboxing dude!

  63. Note to Naturebox - your website when used on an iPhone SUCKS!!! I spent about 30 mins customizing my first order yet where is it? It disappeared.

  65. A snack subscription??? OMG! Tks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Totally off topic, but Toby is really starting to look like you Joanna!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Just bit the bullet and got a subscription! I'm a college student, so it's not cheap, but this will be so much more delicious and healthy than my usual library snack of almonds and chocolate chips, emphasis on the chocolate chips.
