Who do you look like?

For his series I'm Not a Look-Alike, Canadian photographer François Brunelle took 200 photos of people who look like identical twins—but actually aren't even related. How crazy is that?!

Do you look like anyone? Throughout the years, people have said I look like Amanda Peet, Hilary Swank and (back in the day) figure skater Nancy Kerrigan. Alex has ranged from Seth Rogan to a young Warren Beatty. And Toby has gotten Agyness Deyn!

See more jaw-dropping "twin" photos below...

  4. can't even handle this! my roommate looks EXACTLY like her best friend from high school. like it's almost freaky. maybe it's true what they say about us being attracted to people who look familiar to us, aka what we see in the mirror every day? (this makes me think of the opening scene of 101 dalmatians when everyone looks like their dogs) (man alive i love that movie and its classy old animation) Also, i look like an obscure actress named olivia thirlby. Someone took a screenshot of her in a movie and posted it on my wall and it took me a solid 10 seconds to realize it was not actually a photo of me. so trippy!

  5. This is so fun! Depending on my hair color, I have gotten a wide range of look alikes... Claire Danes and Elle McPherson when I'm blonde, Famke Janssen, Liv Tyler, Lake Bell, the wife from The League when my hair is dark. I don't particularly think I look like any of them, but I'll take it! Would be fascinating to see my "twin" in person!

  6. I get Winona Ryder all the time. People used to stop me on the street. It's super weird. I don't even think I look that much like her plus she is 10 years older than me. Ha

  7. That is insane!! People are always telling me I look like someone, but I never really see it, until one day I saw a photo of one of them and thought it was ME! But I don't think we'd even begin to qualify for this photo series. This is seriously mind-boggling.

  8. Wow, these are incredible! When I was in college, there was another girl on campus who looked a lot like me. Her sorority sisters would pass me on the walk and say, "Hi, Courtney!", and I'd have no idea who they were. We finally met and had a good laugh about it!

I think she might have given me her email address and I later sent her a pic of me to show to her family.

I used to get that I looked like Wynona Rider and Ashley Judd, then a couple years ago when pulling out of the rental car place in Las Vegas the gate attendant freaked out that "Lindsay Lohan is in one of our cars!" She's at least 10 years younger so I was thoroughly happy...and it seemed like a great excuse to go party it up in Vegas...Lindsay style!

  43. My best friend and I!! When we were in college (before we knew each other) people use to think we were the same person. I would constantly get called Liz and complete strangers would have conversations with me thinking I was her :) we became best friends because if it!! Our moms have even mistaken us for each other :)

  44. Well, I am embarrassed to admit that people tend to ask my boyfriend and me if we are brother and sister. This didn't happen once or twice but in those seven years we've been together we had to tell that to at least 20 people all over the world. It is quite freaky when you think about it but nowadays I just start laughing and saying: "No, he is my boyfriend. But don't be embarrassed, you're not the first to ask us."

    ReplyDelete
  45. This is fascinating! I've experienced this before. I must have a "common face". People have mistaken me for somebody else several times. I've always been told we each have a "twin" somewhere on the planet. This sorta proves it!

  51. Toby looks so much like Agyness Deyn!!! Wow! I always get Michelle Trachtenberg, and I agree that we look alike. This is interesting to see. I wonder how he found all these look-alikes. 53. I'm an identical twin, so I can sort of relate. I bet people don't refer to them as a unit "the twins" as they did when we we're young.

  54. I sat next to someone in church who looked so much like me, we couldn't stop looking at each other from the corner of our eyes. Our sons looked alike and were the same age, I was constantly being mistaken for her in our community... her husband even stopped me on the street to ask where I was going, and was so confused when I didn't know who he was. To top it all off? Her name was Theresa, but she went by Teri (my name)! Still wish I had the nerve to speak in church that day...

  55. My mom always said that somewhere out in the world, you have a twin -- someone who looks just like you even though you're not related just like in this photo project -- and I've found it to be true in my own experience.

A lot of people have said I look like Lauren Graham and my eyebrow lady always comments on how I look like Beth Ostrosky, Howard Stern's wife, whenever I come in for a shaping.

    ReplyDelete
  56. what a stellar project---i've actually never really been told i look like anyone, so it would be cool to see if i have a pair somewhere out in the world!

  63. This is so fascinating Joanna! The resemblance is unreal. I have two friends who live on separate coasts but have never met. If I didn't know better, I would think they were twins. One day they will have to meet to see if they think the same. I'm going to send them this link. xo.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I absolutely thought the first two woman had to be related. Mind blowing.
When I was in college, apparently there was another girl who looked just like me. People would confuse us and come up and talk to us before realizing that they had the wrong girl. I never saw her, but I really wanted to!

    ReplyDelete
  65. This is seriously unbelievable. Thanks for sharing!

I'm often told (like over 20 separate times all over the world) that I look like Natalie Portman. I don't see it, but it's probably the best compliment someone can get!

  66. I was a long-term substitute teacher when I was fresh out of college and I looked just like one of the students in my class. We also had the same initials, almost the same birthdate, and she wanted to be an anthropologist - what I was going to grad school for the following fall (am what I ended up being). It was spooky! People used to ask me for my hall pass when I would wander around on my free hour b/c they thought I was her. I have a picture of us somewhere.

  68. When I was in fourth grade someone at summer camp told me I looked like Rosie O'Donnell and it basically RUINED MY ADOLESCENCE.

I've since been told by a lot of other flight attendants that I remind them of Reese Witherspoon. I am guessing solely by chin and mannerisms. OBVIOUSLY I choose to believe the latter.

There is an actress that always reminds me of you and I know I will exclaim it when it comes back to my mind.

  83. I always get Christina Aguilera and my husband, people freak out and think he is Johnny Knoxville. Lol.

  84. My look alike is Sofia Coppola, and it is a very strong resemblance. I first found out when I saw this interview between her and Bill Murray about Lost in Translation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRzKHu_UXm8.

When I saw it, it was such a strange feeling to see someone talking to Bill Murray that looked like me, like I had met Bill Murray but didn't remember it. What is interesting is that a lot of the indivudual features of our faces are slightly different but with all of the features put together we look the same.

  126. Did you hear about the Temple U student who found his doppelganger at the Philadelphia Museum of Art? They look like twins!

  130. Joanna, have you seen the new show Call the Midwife? I think one of the young nuns, Sister Bernadette, looks like you. She's played by Laura Main: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1361757/

I don't really ever get a celebrity, but have been told in the past I look like Suri Cruise (bobs, stripes, ballet flats). : )

  133. Hi Joanna. I came across your blog through random search and this post of yours caught my eye. I have heard (not sure if it's true) that there are at least 7 people somewhere in each part of the world that will look exactly like ourselves. They could be of different ethnic, different race and perhaps of a different gender as well. I'll say this post has somehow proven that claim to a certain extend. I remembered that when I was younger, I was approached by a couple saying that I looked exactly just like someone they knew. This is totally scary and in a way exciting. :)

  134. Wow! That is amazing! Over the years I have been told I look like a number of people which range from Janet Jackson, Vanessa Williams and Nicole Ari Parker, depending on how I am wearing my hair.

  135. Interesting! They look like they have found the lost twin.

I get Scarlett Johansson all the time. 10 years ago it was Kylie Minogue all the time. Some others too, but these too are the most common. I guess I should take it as a compliment, especially as Scarlett is more than 10 years my junior...
But I do think that hairstyle is a big issue here, and now that I changed mine quite dramatically, I'm curious to see who it is now, that people think I resemble.

  136. That's so cool! Once I found a girl on Myspace (yeah, it was a while ago) that looked just like me. I showed her picture to my mother and she thought it was me!

  137. Wow, that's pretty crazy! Not too long ago I found celebrities that resembled my friends - did some side-by-sides and waited for my friends to advise how accurate I was. Super fun. I don't think I really look like anyone.

  139. At least once a month someone tells me they know someone who looks exactly like me. I haven't met any of my dopplegangers yet, but want to see if I agree!

  140. My sister has a very casual blog about the same thing!

My Mom always believed that there are "people molds"...and a young Shaman in training recently confirmed "ya...there are a thousand of em" like duh!

And uch, when I was in high school...a group of guys came up to me and said "we saw your doppelganger at a strip club last night...working!" I never lived that one down!

  142. Hi Joanna, that's funny - I know Francois and wrote an article for the Metro newspaper in the UK about his lookalike project back in 2004!

  143. One time when we were in North Carolina (we live in California), we saw a man staying at our hotel who looked identical to our cousin back home. It was so eerie! When we saw him a day or so later, he had on a t-shirt from a town a half an hour from where we live, which made it all the more weird. We asked him if he was from there and he said no, but he was from California. As we were walking away, his wife came out of their room, and she looked just like our cousin's wife! It was just truly bizarre!

  145. I may be YOUR twin. My friend sent me a link on Facebook of your blog to show me a video. I did a double take thinking it was a pic she found of me holding a baby.

  147. OMG!! Toby totally looks like Agynes Deyn! I read that and thought, no way until I pulled up a pic! How weird! But your Toby is way cuter with that adorable smile! :)

  148. Call me crazy but those people don't really look anything alike to me. Some could be siblings and others have the same hair or clothes but it stops there. I pride myself on finding people who like like other people except are different skin colours. I used to have a blog about it but then I had a baby and less time to be silly! You can still look at it sameface.tumblr.com

  150. Last week I was in New York and I swear I saw a boy about 12 years old who looked just like Toby, and he was French. I thought of taking a picture and tweeting it to you but didn't want to be that creep :)

  151. Strangers approach my daughter on the street and tell her she looks like Taylor Swift...at least once a week! I have told her that she should start a business where she goes to birthday parties and sings Taylor Swift songs! lol
