Do you like camping? I've never been a huge camper, but Shelter Co. looks pretty amazing. It's a pop-up lodging service, born out of a nostalgia for the days of summer camp. They set up fully furnished European-style canvas tents, complete with Pendleton blankets, a carpeted floor and bedside tables, and you just show up to stargaze, roast marshmallows and play games. It's like camping for wusses! Just my style!Thoughts? Do you like camping or not so much?
P.S. More travel fantasies...

I'd rather not use bathroom outside, but these popup tents look like fun to try.

This sounds like my kind of camping!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like my kind of camping!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! That looks totally magical. My cousin and his family bought a Yurt for their land in Vermont and it is a similar "are we living in a Wes Anderson movie?" vibe. I would love to do this.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE camping! These look amazing!
ReplyDeleteMmm s'mores.
Seeing those $250 West Elm poufs on the grass make me cringe a little, ha ha!
ReplyDeletethis is like the glam side of camping! glamping, maybe?
ReplyDeletei recently posted about wanting to start an annual camping tradition - this is very good inspiration for it.

The pictures look BEAUTIFUL! I love camping and my boyfriend and I have been pushing our limits each year. This year, we camped in colder weather - that was not pleasant... but beautiful nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteEvery vacation that my husband and I go on either involves camping (in tents) or backpacking. We try to cram as much adventure into each and every day. There's nothing like waking up in a cozy tent with the sun shining through the canvas. Although, now that I'm getting a little older, I may have to get a thicker sleeping bag pad.
ReplyDeleteWe do a ton of backpacking and canoe camping and just got these sleeping pads when my ol' trusty thermarest bit the dust. THey are amazing!

DeleteI am not much of a camper. I've never officially been TRUE camping. However, last summer we took our family to Kinnikinnick Farm and had a blast. It is a working farm outside of Chicago. They have canvas tents and provide linens, etc. The kids LOVED it and we already booked a weekend for next summer. The farm we stayed on provides produce for many of the restaurants we love in Chicago. I HIGHLY recommend something as such! LOVED IT (and believe me I'm not a camper!).
ReplyDeleteFeatherdowns (the company that provides the canvas tents) has a few farm locations in the US (one is close-ish to you in the Catskills). Toby would LOVE it! http://www.featherdown.com/en-us/farm-stay/ny/walton-delaware-county/stony-creek/our-story.html

Nooooo. there's bugs and snakes, mosquitos and bears out there in them thar woods... noooo.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - that would be truly wonderful and a rustic romantic getaway - sign me up please with that special someone?! Okay...I suppose that would also require me to have a special someone, but this is all hypothetical anyways...
ReplyDeleteMuch love,

so cool!
ReplyDeleteWe glamp - glamorous camping with old fashioned tents, furs and gin! It takes the sting out of going to the bathroom outside!
ReplyDeleteThis is the only kind of camping I would enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI have not one camping bone in my body...but these pictures are something else...I'm definitely going to enjoy them from afar... =)
ReplyDeleteErgo - Blog
So inline with this and glamping; you should check out how medievalist camp when they go to big gatherings. It's unreal how lush and detailed these camps and tent are. Look up The 'SCA' and Pennsic to see what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI have never in my life seen camping look so enticing. Sold.
ReplyDeleteI recently took a trip with my boyfriend where we hiked into the camp-- 3 miles with huge backpacks-- and I did not like that at all. We've been camping five or so times now and it is just not relaxing for me. I get stressed out about it and twice I've gotten ticks and or chiggers! One thing I did last time that I will definitely do next time is pop a couple of Ambien at bed time. I was out like a light instead of miserably tossing all night.
ReplyDeleteWe tried to camp in the backyard one night, until we heard a chain being dragged on the ground. We were the only people home and this is out in the country so we had no idea what it could be. It didn't sound like an animal! So after abruptly gathering our supplies, we ran to the house as fast as we could, hoping not to run into some crazy meth head who had broken into the yard (Oh, Oklahoma).
ReplyDeleteThe next morning, we went out to check out our "campsite" and found something had walked right up the side of the tent and put some claw marks in it! So glad I wasn't in it when that happened!
I love camping! :) Of course the campground I go has a bathroom and showers...I mean you have to walk to get there but that makes a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so fun!
I love camping, and I love Shelter Co.! It's such a stylish way to throw a party in the woods!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE camping. Comparatively, I'm a hardcore camper. When I was a camp counselor in college for the Girl Scouts, I was the one doing the "Gilligan's Island" group where cooked 2 meals a day over an open fire and wove our own hammocks (no tents). It was great.
ReplyDeleteI could LIVE in one of the shelter co. tents - I think it's my dream =) Neat-o.
I haven't been camping in so long, so probably, I love the IDEA of camping more than actual camping. I don't know... this looks perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteSunset magazine is pretty big on glamping...in fact, we ran a November cover story (one of two) on fall camping in the West, which you can read here if you like: http://www.sunset.com/travel/fall-travel-experiences-00418000079600/. Kelsey Sheofsky of Shelter Co. styled the shoot.
ReplyDeleteI love camping but the bathroom must be present in vicinity but not too close...also a place for coffee : )
ReplyDeleteI adore camping,it is 100% peace. It is my first love... This would be a top choice for a honeymoon for me too. :)
ReplyDeleteso lovely! my man and i are hoping that shelter co. will do our wedding! i hope my grandma won't mind glamping for a weekend ;)
ReplyDeletei'm not really into camping but i could definitely do this style of camping. love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of camping but these look promising!

I pretty much grew up in a tent. Love love love. It is still a very important and special part of my life. We live in the northwoods of Minnesota so it is extraordinary. My husband even winter camps every February...I am not that hard core. Ha ha.
ReplyDeleteI wrote about a fun trip this summer on my blog dinaDuluth...went a day early with a girlfriend and it was a hoot. Check out Voyageurs National Park if you haven't already. A hidden gem for sure. http://wp.me/p2pH9C-9f
xoxo dina
Ah another Minnesota gal! You can't beat the Northwoods, especially the NE corner. I have yet to go to the Boundary waters, and portage that. I have now moved to Utah, and have fallen IN LOVE with backpacking. Every weekend I want to spend backpacking in the mountains with my boyfriend. :)
DeleteCheers,
Jackie
I've never been a fan of camping, but glamping? Not THAT is something I could get used to! :)
ReplyDeletehaha after my last camping experience, where we got attacked by mosquitos and our boat sank during a freak king tide, i'm a little dubious about camping. this looks amazing though!!!
ReplyDeletePersonally I have only been camping once, and swore I would never go again. However, seeing these lovely setups I may be persuaded to change my mind. If that makes me a camping wuss, then I'll own it!
ReplyDeleteI've been camping twice, both times overnight, and found nothing fun about it, except for cooking outside. I could get behind a concept like this, though.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked camping, but my family never goes because my sister HATES it! We always go to campsites when we do go, so it's not super-roughing-it camping, haha.
ReplyDeleteI do not get camping. There are always condos right next to the campgrounds. And, exactly who in these pictures did all of the schlepping? Especially the adirondack. Although, I could almost small the bacon and eggs.
ReplyDeleteThis is what we call glamping --glamours camping.
ReplyDeleteI think I understand you... I never was a camper, but I can sympathize with camp romantics. Especially after the movies like "Moonrise Kingdom".
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a nice tent for sure!
I've always been scared by it, city-girl as I am, but I finally gave in this summer and actually enjoyed it! I wrote about it here www.lecatch.com/2012/07/great-outdoors.html It was in Santa Barbara on the beach, so that helped!
ReplyDeleteMarlien @ LE CATCH
Camping is my FAVORITE!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! this is beautiful. i loved camping as a kid. these pictures bring back good memories except our tents were army green and not quite as stylish :) we will be bringing our little one soon enough.
ReplyDeletehttp://greenwhaleblog.blogspot.com/
looooove this. looks super fun
ReplyDeleteI think I could get behind this kind of camping...
ReplyDeletei could get used to this! my Bf and i went on a few camping trips this summer, but this totally beats 'em all!
ReplyDeleteI love love love camping (the traditional way) and backpacking, but I think this could be a lovely honeymoon possibility for me and my beau when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cool. Such a clever idea (and so stylish) I can't stand it! I did A LOT of camping with the family growing up... but now that I've grown up I would say I "like" camping... but I don't "love" camping. Every once in a while is fun though ;)
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the theory of camping far more than the actual experience, so this seems like it would be right up my alley! It would get rid of the bits I'm not such a fan of (cramped tents, set up, tear down, etc.) so that I could focus on the bits I do enjoy (campfire food, singalongs, stargazing).
ReplyDeleteI would love to do a camping trip. I think the only thing stopping me is the cold or the bugs...Bt I always wanted to be an adventurer, so maybe this is the time!

I'm not usually a big camping fan (I get scared to go to the toilet at night and I hate being woken at 6am with the sun blazing on the tent...) but this is gorgeous and so romantic! Love!
ReplyDeletehttp://thegoogleyear.blogspot.com.au/
While this all looks very glamorous and fun, my camping style is much different. I really like back-country camping. In California you just grab a permit, grab a sleeping bag and a light pack, then sleep wherever you want to in a wild forest or coastal meadow. It's a little frightening at times, but very intimate and gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI like the excitement!
I luuurve me some regular camping, but I have wanted to go glamping SO badly for the past couple of years. This company looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI mean, this is amazing but the prices are prohibitive!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing. Do they have one with a ger?
ReplyDeletewow, this is tempting. i don't love camping. http://portlandsunshine.blogspot.com/2012/12/as-if.html
ReplyDeletebut your post is a good teaser...
what a fun idea!
ReplyDeleteTo me camping is:
ReplyDeletePut all your stuff in the car. Drive somewhere over roads that make you nauseous. Take all your stuff out of the car. Get it dirty. Fail to sleep. Put all your now dirty stuff back into the car. Take it home. Wash it.
Sleep.
I love camping! This past summer, I went on a 14 mile biking hike with my boyfriend and our friends. It was tough and I looked like I had lived in woods for my entire life when we were done but, in the end, I was so glad we did it! I really learned a lot about myself!
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to a place like Shelter Co. It looks so beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteWell, I actually hate camping, but there are two "camping" places where I won't mind spending some time: Les Roulottes de Campagne in France en The Whitepod in Zurich. That's my kind of camping!

it seems at the end of this year I will try to camping.
ReplyDeleteI love camping, but real campaign. Stumbled across this via ValetMag and I was curious to see what it was about. It's a cute idea if you've never been camping before or if you're afraid of nature but I wouldn't really call this "camping". It's a minimal bed and breakfast at best.
ReplyDeleteThe European tents look great and I can see how these might invoke a feeling of nostalgia for some people. However, I think I'll stick to true camping: Hiking for miles with all of my gear, pitching a tend, chopping wood for a fire and surviving with little to no human contact. Just me and nature.
This is what almost all the upscale "lodges" look like in Southern Africa. I LOVE IT! Having spent months backpacking around the US, I love me some tents and nature, and I definitely appreciate the fancier versions.
ReplyDeleteI loved camping when I was younger, but I'm over it now. My husband and I went to a luxury camping resort in the fall and it was fabulous though.

ReplyDeleteI am definitely not a camper, but this looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove camping!
ReplyDeleteEspecially attracted to...big guys with guns on night watch while you sleep cozy in your tent...
Ahhh - it's so cold out right now and you have made me so happy to think about camping again in the spring. Our Bell Tent only had one outing last summer (Crappy weather & bad planning) but I can't wait for 2013 and the weather picking up, and getting back out in the tent. xxx
ReplyDeleteOh that's definitely my style of camping!

Wow, that looks beautiful! There are definitely the down-sides to camping which I don't like, but when you've got a wonderful place such as this, there's nothing like camping and sleeping outside :)

Ah! I love this idea, Joanna! I'm a wuss when it comes to camping. But I'm also a romantic. So this kind of camping seems perfect for me. Next vacation!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite quotes... "I love not camping"
ReplyDeleteoh, this looks delightful. Did you know there is a place in Santa Barbara, CA that has something very similar to this-- in the foothills by the beach! Check it out: http://www.elcapitancanyon.com/gallery/
ReplyDeleteOK...I love your blog and I've been following it for a while now!! But this post was so cool!! Growing up we camped A LOT! Part of my childhood was spent in Scotland and one year we camped to Switzerland where we spent the summer...and along the way, in France, we stayed at a "hotel" that was all wall tents! As an 11 year old, a multi-roomed tent was amazing and this post reminds me of that feeling!
ReplyDeleteHow amazing is this?! I wish this service extended to Ohio, however, it's given me a surge of inspiration for a summer camping trip. I might not be able to make anything quite as lovely, but I can try! Thanks for posting this!

Hello, I really loved this blog so much And I also love Camping. Camping has been a tradition for families, friends, and even organizations for the entire span of history. Many camping enthusiasts also like to save money, so what better way to do so than to utilize your car, one of the largest investments you have ever made? Thanks..
