Gift Guide Part #7: Your Younger Brother Who Can Fly a Plane and Strike Up a Conversation with Anybody.

Colorblock sweatshirt for knocking around on lazy Saturdays, $168. (Here's another cute one for $59.50.)

Matchbooks to have around his apartment for candles/romance/easy decor. $5/each.

Slate cheese board, made in Brooklyn. $29 or $44. (The small size is sold out, but the others are in stock.)

Scratch map to record his travels, $16.49.

Good old-fashioned jacks to play over a glass of wine, $6.

Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories, $10.84. Dahl read 749 creepy tales at the British Museum Library before selecting the 14 that comprise this anthology. "Dahl's taste, it will surprise no one, is impeccable," says the Washington Post.

Moccasin slippers, for padding around his apartment, $49. (I have the girl's version and love them.)

Egg cooking spoons so he can make perfect soft-boiled eggs for the ladies. 10.50 Euro for a set of four.

Thermo Pot for bringing a warm lunches on adventures, $39.90. Keeps food hot for five hours, guaranteed for 10 years.

Knife skills class, prices vary.

Sifteo Cubes, $129.95. My sister's brother-in-law created this awesome award-winning interactive game system, featuring toys that talk to each other. The cubes communicate wirelessly and respond to each other and your gestures. They come with four pre-installed games, and you can download many more. (P.S. Their TED talk was rated one of the "top 5 most engaging TED talks" of all time.)

Damn Good Advice, $9.95, a genius and very opinionated handbook by George Lois, the original Mad Man. (I really want this myself!)

And, always and forever, the Icelandic Beard Cap, $79.

P.S. More gifts for brothers, and (finally) the complete 2012 gift guide!

Do you happen to know the age suggestion for the Roald Dahl book? Wondering if it's appropriate for a 12-year-old! Thanks! Great list :)

That beard cap is the most amazing thing I've seen all day. My brother lives in Boston, and I think I might just have to get it for him to enjoy this winter!

You always come up with such creative gifts for men. Your gift guides are so much more creative and helpful than the typical tie, wallet, watch lists for men. I don't have a brother either but my husband would like the sifteo cubes. How cool that your brother-in-law designed them!

amen to that.

Thank-you Joanna- 2 gifts for my younger brother. Done.

great gifts. though one would hope that an ad for a knife skills class would show somebody who was actually using good knife skills. guess this is the before shot! ;)

Joanna, this is hilariously perfect. I have one sibling - a younger brother who can literally fly a plane and strike up a conversation with anybody. How did you know?! :)

I just bought the slate cheese board for my husband, this made me remember him hinting about wanting one, thanks so much for reminding me!

You are the coolest! You have the best gift ideas.
I don't celebrate christmas, so I don't have to deal with this whole gift-buying madness. But my brother's birthday is coming up and he is impossible to shop for because he has more money than most people I know and has no problem buying whatever he wants. I know he doesn't care if I get him a gift and he would feel bad if I spent too much money on one, so that book is PERFECT. Thanks!

I am seriously eyeing off both the map and the thermo pot - both of which are things I have been looking for lately!
Love your style, Jo.

Love the scratch map! Jacks make me laugh. My sister swallowed one when we were kids and my mom had to keep cutting up her poo to find it!! I don't think it turned up. :)

Are plane-flying brothers all that common? But the mustache hat would be a great practical joke (play on words intended there).
