Military-style duffle bag, $440. A heavy-duty waxed canvas backpack that's beautiful, functional and durable. Made in Portland, Oregon. Not cheap, but he'll love and use this trusty bag for every trip and adventure for the rest of his life (and pass it down to your kids).

iPhone holder/tripod for displaying recipes while cooking, taking self-portraits, shooting family videos, all those dad things. (No more vacation portraits taken with an awkwardly extended arm!) $30.

Felt mistletoe to tuck into his shirt pocket on a date night, $16.

Demetri Martin's Standup Comedian, the funniest stand-up comedy CD in ages. Makes us laugh out loud until we're red-faced and crying. Seriously. $9.99.

Leather bike pouch. Perfect size to fit his wallet, keys and a sandwich (and let him ride comfortably with empty pockets). $138.
Leather luggage tag, so he never has to fill out those annoying paper ones again (and can just glide through the airport like Clooney). $45.

YES. The Amplifiear projects your iPad's sound toward you, so you can actually hear a movie or song. (Why does Apple make such weak speakers?!) $24.99.

Board shorts for all his boyish adventures year round, $70.
Homemade gin kit to make martinis from scratch within 36 hours. Awesome. $39.95.

Mixtape, like the one you made him when you were first dating. $15. (The genius design plugs right into a computer's USB port!)

A bouncy ball that bounces up to 75 FEET, to delight his inner kid (and blow your toddler's mind). $8.50.

His favorite stinky cheese (prices vary) plus this tee, $15.

A portable back-up iPhone battery he can carry with him, since his phone is always running out of batteries. Genius for traveling/planes! $39.50. (And here's the women's version.)
P.S. More gifts for husbands (including 10 gifts Alex revealed himself), and the 2012 gift guide so far...

Joanna, these are amazing! i love your creativity!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this list! That ipod tripod is genius, as is the ipad speaker ear thingamajig. Also loving that utility apron, though, honestly, what would you even put in all those pockets? They've got a wooden spoon in one in the photo, but once that baby touches the food it's not going back in your pocket... is it?

ReplyDeleteI want all the stuff from the husband list for myself!
ReplyDeleteOh that duffel bag is perfect for Thriving Husband... but why is it SO expensive? Any more affordable versions? I also really like that iPhone cord thing, but it looks like it won't work for the iPhone 5. Argh!

I love these! Also, this list just nails it when it comes to men -- the kid factor to the gin making. It's like this is a Christmas list that doubles as a description of men.

ReplyDeleteSuch good ideas, and I know my husband would like that T-shirt, but do I want to hang out with him while he is wearing it?? Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteDoes the Murray's Cheese comic come as greeting cards or postcards? They'd make fun Valentines.
ReplyDeleteThere's a women's version of a BATTERY? What is wrong with the world?
ReplyDeleteha, totally agree with this...
DeleteJoanna- I love your blog & gift guides.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the comment about the "women's version" of the back-up iphone charger really irked me. I am a women so I can't have the blue striped one? It has to be hot pink or leopard print?
Just some food for thought! Looking forward to the next gift guide!
Oh my god! Your gift guides and giveaways are doing my Christmas shopping for me this year! THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has a military backpack like that - it's near indestructible. He got it for $20 at a military surplus store.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great gift guide. Love the shorts and "Let's grow mold together!" Looking forward to the others to come.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! My dad says he used to put my feet on his when I was a toddler and dance around to Beatles records. He says he picked "Happy Just to Dance With You" as our father daughter dance :)
ReplyDeletephenomenal guide for men! I love the martini kit and cheese shirt!!

If you want a cheaper duffel bag ($440? That's ridiculous, even by hipster NY standards), check out your local military surplus store.
ReplyDeleteHi Jo! I love your gift guides! I'm staying with my boyfriends parents for the holidays, can you recommend any good in-law type gifts? Thanks!

Jo, my father was in the military, and his canvas bag is the best! I've borrowed it for trips and it's seriously the real deal--rugged, and can carry a ton of stuff! He is also fond of saying, "I've deployed men for combat with less stuff then you have here!" whenever he picks me up from the airport, haha! Gotta love dads!
ReplyDeleteYour gift guides are the best! :)
Jo--I love reading these but seldom buy off the lists. You so nailed it on this one though...I bought so much off this list in particular that AMX shut off my card due to a fraud alert! My husband will be delighted.
ReplyDeleteHomemade Gin - SO AWESOME. Boys really will be boys, won't they?
ReplyDeleteI love that iPhone holder. My husband is a big cook now and he's always bringing his laptop into the kitchen. Having that little stand for his iPhone would be way better!
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much Joanna! This list is full of things my husband will love.
