Paris elopement

Karl and Leslie eloped to Paris, and their friend Duncan Wolfe captured it on film. Love the groom's flirty dancing at the end.

P.S. Three elopements, and a Swedish wedding dress.

  1. Gorgeous! I love little stories and pics like this. They make me want to get married all over again...to the same man, of course! Ah, sigh...my husband proposed to me in Paris. So sentimental right now!

  5. I have got to ask. What is with all of the wedding stuff? Are you planning on renewing your vows? It is getting kind of excessive. Like at least once a week something about a wedding. Motherhood is something that lasts a lifetime. I understand why you focus on that so much. A wedding is hopefully just one day once in your life. If we want to read about weddings all the time there are a LOT of blogs 100% devoted to that. Please could you actually blog instead of posting silly and incredibly repetitive pieces like this all the time?

    2. If you have followed this blog for a while you'll see that Jo usually features weddings at least once a week (see 'Weddings and Relationships' at the top of the page). Featuring stylish and romantic weddings are as much a part of this blog as the Motherhood posts, the weekly recipes and random style postings.

    3. I've been reading for years and it is one of my favorite parts of the day. I know that she posts about relationships/dating/marriage on a regular basis and I take no issue with that but the weddings are MUCH more frequent these days. I don't mind a conversation about scheduling sex or keeping romance alive in other capacities but the wedding dress obsession (or makeup for that matter) is just dull.

    4. Wow. I certainly wouldn't call this an "obsession." Jo clearly has a knack for finding pretty things and sharing them with her readers. She also clearly delights in others' creativity, love, and joy, to include elopements and weddings (and babies and fashion and trips...)! I don't see how any of that is silly or repetitive. In fact, I suspect that's why all of us are hear reading her blog.

    5. Re: "A wedding is hopefully just one day once in your life". Seriously? I would relive, re-dance, and re-party my day over and over every year if I could. I may be misreading your tone here, but I adore everything that the day embodies and all the hope and love that is poured into it and I certainly wouldn't shun Jo for keeping her readers attuned to great wedding related posts. Weddings are a part of life - just like having babies and "scheduling sex". Lighten up!

  14. thank you for finding & sharing such beautiful corners of the internet with us, jo. i photograph weddings, so much of my work week is bombarded with lovely photos, videos, and bits & pieces of weddings and engagements. but you have such a knack for for finding things, like this, that are truly different & special. i love that you always hone in on a little detail of the day -- maybe a bride's blush, or this couple's sweet, simple elopement. probably the biggest testament to why i always find myself on your blog abode is that i always leave feeling happy. i really think that's no small thing.

p.s. my favorite shot -- him picking out a rose & champagne in the little street-side shop.

  22. Elopements sound better and better everyday. It always seems that those who are eloping are truly celebrating their love and their commitment rather than focusing on the wedding.

  23. I got married earlier this month and Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós was our processional song. :) As I walked down with my dad, he kept chatting and I had say "shhh" because I wanted to hear the song. Ha ha. Can't wait to see Sigur Rós in Denver in April!

  24. Absolutely adore this! So romantic just the two of them and a great idea to have captured it all on film too!;)

  27. This has to be one of my favourite elopement films so far. The music, the city, the couple, just so romantic. Just waiting for my turn now!

    ReplyDelete
  28. YAY you posted it!!! Hope you enjoyed it, I've watched it twice, once with my fiance, and we're pretty set on eloping. Now can you please give us advice on how to tell our parents :P

  29. Did you catch the couple kissing in the background at the very end? Such a sweet ironic moment given the nature of the video.

  30. My husband and I got engaged in Paris! It was such a dreamy, romantic weekend away. He knew I loved engagement photo shoots, so my fiance actually went ahead and booked a parisian photographer to come take engagement shots of us afterward, with Parisian cafes and cobblestones in the background. I still look at the pictures all the time (I actually think I might like them even better than our wedding photos!) and the thought of just sticking around the city of lights and tying the knot there certainly crossed our minds more than once!

  31. This is lovely, but there seems to be a lot of elopement 'porn' out there these days...and I can't help but wonder if it defeats the purpose of eloping. I mean--you have what's supposed to be this private wedding ceremony, but it's recorded and then it's posted on the internet for the whole world to see and fawn over. Don't get me wrong, this video is great and if it were my wedding I'd cherish it forever and want to share it...but it's also so slick, which gives the whole thing a performative vibe. Like a regular wedding, I suppose. I love weddings, loved my own, and I love watching these videos and the photos you've been posting. But I also love the idea of a old fashioned elopement, where the ceremony is truly, really, deeply intimate and private. This kind of feels like a music video of an elopement.

  35. They are darling! I actually have her dress, it's from H&M! So clever to use it as a wedding dress and she looks gorgeous! Me and my husband sometimes wished we had done something like this amidst all the planning of our huge wedding.

  41. I've thought a lot about the idea of marriage (in a legal sense) and I must say that I haven't quite decided what side of the fence I land on. I do know that serious commitment is definitely in my future, though, and when I make that choice, this video comes very close to how I imagine it happening.

I love that elopements are becoming normalized because I think it's important to make sure the focus is on the deep commitment taking place between these two people and not on extravagance.

I love your elopement posts! They truly inspire me.

  42. I'm not much of a romantic, but I always love the wedding posts, maybe because my best family memories were at my sisters' weddings.

It could be being in front of a camera, but I do think the couple seems just a little lonely. There have been times where I'm walking down the street with my amazing boyfriend, but still wish I had my family around.

  46. Anyone else find wedding videos to generally be over-the-top cheesy? There's some that I like, but the majority are just edited and filtered to the point that realism goes out the door. Maybe works for watching with loved ones, but a bit much for posting randomly on the internet. I like this video stylistically, but once they started marching dramatically towards the camera I had to cringe and shut it off. Eloped - conveniently with an expert cameraman.

  47. This video is so sweet and to those people who doubt how intimate an elopement can be with someone else there to record it I think it all depends on who that person is. We eloped in New York and had a very close friend there to take our photographs and be our witness. It was the most uncomplicatedly joyful day I have ever experienced and we have beautful photographs taken by someone we love and trust.
