Wouldn't you love to have a fall or winter wedding? (Did any of you?) The crisp air would make your cheeks rosy, and you could wrap a cardigan over your dress. Here are seven gorgeous brides who did just that...

What do you think? Would you wear a cardigan with your wedding dress? Which of these do you like best?
P.S. Did you cry at your wedding?

Love the rosy cheeks and pink nose from the brisk cooler weather weddings. I think this would be a perfect reason to splurge on some cashmere, I say it's a do.
ReplyDeletehellobougeotte.blogspot.com
we had an early spring wedding (March 28) and i wore a cardigan over my dress from the second the ceremony was done until i snugged into bed at the end of the night. it was white like my dress, and i was so glad i decided to ... i took it off once for a photo and started to shiver immediately!
ReplyDeleteMeh, a bit twee for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteall desperately pretty brides
ReplyDeleteYes. I think if I wore a cardigan over a wedding dress it would be a little more walrus and a little less gazelle.
DeleteHa! Yeah. What Anna said.
DeleteI adore the wedding cardigan. I wore one for my summer wedding to stay warm in the indoor air conditioning!
ReplyDeleteDid you know that ExPress-O has literally the same exact post up today? http://diana212m.blogspot.com/2012/11/cardigan-wedding-dress-do-or-dont.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Express-o+%28exPress-o%29
ReplyDeleteI JUST did a post on this as well (you can check it out here if you like, although I like yours better!)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.oh-lovely-day.com/2012/10/its-in-details-cardigans-on-bride.html
And I was a summer bride on a hot august day in So Cal, but I would have LOVED to have been a fall bride with a cardigan. I just love the look.
those brides are ADORABLE... i think for a wedding that's more casual or rustic, it's totally appropriate. but for a fancier wedding, a fur shawl, a white scarf, or something similar would be more appropriate....
ReplyDeletecheers!
Cardi's are always a yes in my book and yes to rosy cheek. My favorite images (and styles) you posted here are photo 8: girl dancing with her arm up, the wrap is so elegant and the last three. All the images you chose are fabulous.

Love the 1rst one !
ReplyDeleteI bought a cardigan to wear over my dress, just in case it was chilly, but didn't end up wearing it. I chose one in a light grey - it was lovely and I wear it regularly now!
ReplyDeleteI think it's adorable! I fell in love when I saw Sarah wear a pink one on her day here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ahouseinthehills.com/ahouseinthehills/2012/8/14/our-wedding-part-ii.html
My favorite one featured is the gorgeous blue one! Thanks for sharing these!
Definitely a big do!!!! When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. When nature serves up a chill, you slip into a cardigan. Of course, I am a midwest girl :) xxCat
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Kate Middleton's second dress!

I love the first photo and that cardigan is beautiful! I would like a fall wedding. Winter would be a bit too cold especially for taking photos and doing activities outside, which I would definitely want!
ReplyDeleteWe were married on January 2, 2010, and it was about 2 degrees that day with no snow. Beautiful in a 100 year old mansion, but quite cold. Toasty inside, so no cardigan, but I wore my red wool little red riding hood coat into the house!
ReplyDeletemy friend Shanna wore a mustard yellow cardigan over her wedding dress: yellow cardigan wedding
ReplyDeleteAnd I still wear it today! : )
DeleteThe yellow is a BEAUTIFUL pop of color! Love it!
DeleteMy wedding was on a cool day in April and I was so glad to have my cashmere cardigan! It's not for a formal wedding, of course, but for our wedding I think it was just right,
ReplyDeletehttp://www.projectwedding.com/real_wedding/show/anna-seth-san-francisco-ca/31
Love them all! And it was totally something I did for pictures right after the wedding! http://theyoungrens.com/blog/tag/jeff-shannon/ =)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a Do.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely wear a cardigan to my wedding next October. It's a casual affair, but even if I were doing the white-dress-ballroom affair, I'd wear one. They're such a big part of my life, and I want to look like myself on my wedding day!
ReplyDeleteThe cardigan look is definitely cute. I love the bride picture at the top of the page on the tree stump best(the view of the harbour and mountains is beautiful) followed by the under the brolly bride.
ReplyDeleteit's a definite do! such a lovely photo joanna. my husband and i married at the top of a mountain and i wish i had one that day :)
ReplyDeleteI have a cardigan to wear over my wedding dress, but when I told a friend she was horrified! Glad you posted this--makes me confident in my choice! Thanks xx
ReplyDeleteI love the mix of formal with casual and cozy. The cardigan looks elegant and graceful. Makes me want to have a rustic cool-weather wedding.
ReplyDeletelove this look- love it. It adds another layer that says femanine and flirty. So cute.
ReplyDeleteCardigan over the wedding dress is definitely a *Do*... I especially love the red one!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I did not cry at my wedding, but I was so overwhelmed/exhausted that I ugly-cried all through the rehearsal. There are many red-faced pictures to prove it :/
ouch.. what happened to our men??!! the internet ruined our men!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE cardigans & wedding dresses! I was a winter bride & wore a vintage fur stole over my dress. Fall & winter brides have to stay warm!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, and yes! I had a New Year's Eve wedding, and I actually wore a leather jacket over my dress.
ReplyDeleteSo cute if done right, practical too - bonus points!
ReplyDeleteMy wedding is in a couple weeks. I live in the Northeast, so I definitely think I may have to rock it out with a cardigan. :-)
ReplyDeleteI will be wearing a cardigan with my wedding dress (on Saturday!). But, I'll throw it on towards the end of the evening, prior to heading to a local brewery in Denver. I had the hardest time finding something affordable, however. I ended up grabbing a cardigan from Banana Republic in one of my wedding colors, navy (our colors are navy and cream).
ReplyDeleteI love the look of a cardigan over a wedding dress. I work for a florist and wedding designer in Vermont and it gets cold early up here. One of our recent brides wore a beautiful burnt orange cardigan and chocolate brown blazer over her wedding dress for their photographs before the ceremony. She looked absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeletei think this is absolutely a 'do'! it looks gorgeous and keeps things just a tad bit quirky.
ReplyDelete-ale
Do Do Do!!! I wanted to at my wedding--alas, it was 90-some degrees...
ReplyDeleteI think the first one is my favourite - with the scarf! Absolutely love that.
ReplyDeleteAlso - the second photo, the pink nose! Ah, that just makes me want to get married all over again, autumn/winter style this time ;) How cozy.
/Camilla
I can not even tell you how much I love you right now. I have been searching for WEEKS to find the original link to that first photo (since I clearly stumbled on it on pintrest). I am so enamored with the sweater over the dress idea. I just can't see myself having your typical big, festival wedding, so my boyfriend and I always joke about eloping (plus, we're broke post-college grads) and if we did, I swear, that is what I'm wearing. Comfortable, cozy, and very much...me.
ReplyDeleteLove the first image on the tree stump. I think it's a perfect mix of casual/formal/practical, and could be done in great taste, like these.
ReplyDeleteI did! After the ceremony, when the night air got a little chilly, I donned a teal cardigan. I love how it looks in the photos!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting married in six weeks and am knitting my own super-warm shrug to wear for outdoor photos! Hopefully I will finish it by then - I'm almost done with the sleeves, which should be the most labor-intensive part.
ReplyDeleteSorry but ALL cardigans are horrible, even the red one too. Totally don'ts, ruin all the festive glamour of bride&groom. (and that light blue stripped scarf on the blonde guy is also disastrous)
ReplyDeletepeace :)
I have always dreamed of a winter wedding. I think an orange cardigan over the gown would be super cute and add a pop of color!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who is always cold -- I think a cardigan is a great idea over a wedding dress!
ReplyDeleteAnd as someone who has always wanted a fall wedding, it would be even more important.
I think its a do -- just like being warm and comfortable in general -- especially on your wedding day!
I think it's a do - it just screams cozy! I feel like an outdoor fireplace should be involved in the reception ...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a do! We were married in Maine during the summer. A cardigan was perfect for walking outside when the wedding was over. Loved it!
ReplyDeletelove the red one, love it on the short dress or with the ball skirt. for me is a big bright yes.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful brides. I love the cable sweater in the first image, what a perfect (and cozy!) way to get married in the winter.
ReplyDeletehttp://allisondono.blogspot.com/
I would really love to know who made the dress that is in the 6th, 7th, and 8th, picture (with the ruffles on the back of the cardigan, and the opening with more tulle in the front of the dress...the man is wearing a scarf). The link doesn't seem to lead to that wedding, of I can't find it, and have gone back through the blog entries of Elizabeth Milley's site. Can anyone help me out?
ReplyDeleteYes. I wore an olive green one with amber jewel buttons over my antique ivory lace dress. I was warm and cozy and hid my lunchlady arms.
ReplyDeleteThe red is probably the least conventional but also my favorite!

Perrrsonally I have a penchant for a few pics with plaid flannel over the top. I love me some flannel.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics, dear! I love the sweater for the bride.

These are adorable pictures. I like them all, but if I had to chose, I like the wrap cardigan over the dress of the girl in the middle with the black umbrella. But really, they are all beautiful and very cute in their sweaters.
ReplyDeleteI love these pics! As for crying at my wedding, I thought I would considering I cry at everyone's wedding, but I didn't. It was so stress free, on the beach, with only immediate family there, and absolutely perfect. Seeing Chris in his white linen outfit looking so handsome gave me an overwhelming sense of calm. Six and half years later I fall in love with him more and more everyday.
ReplyDeleteIt's a do! They all look so cozy and I love the mix of textures :)
ReplyDeletedo!! i had a pacific northwest fall wedding (our 7 year anniversary was yesterday!) and now i'm wishing i would have thought of a cardigan ;)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! I was a June bride, but I always thought it was a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI wanted a winter wedding so bad, but since the hubs was in school when we got married, we did a July wedding so we would be able to take a nice long honeymoon. I totally would have worn a gorgeous cardigan over my dress though! Rosy cheeks at the wedding are the best.
ReplyDeleteI got married January 3 so mine was a winter wedding. I wore a faux fur cropped jacket, but I love the idea of a cardigan!
ReplyDeleteIn my book, a cardigan is ALWAYS a do. (If my dress didn't have a vintage topper I would've gone for one at my own wedding!). Love the pretty, laid-back feel of something a little cozy.

These brides look gorgeous! Love them all.
ReplyDeleteLove the cardigan look! I didn't wear one since we got married in May, but my dress did have sleeves. I'm always cold!!
ReplyDeleteI don't see why not, these brides all look very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'd much rather have a cardigan over my dress than wear a strapless meringue monstrosity that most brides go for ;)
Beautiful! I got married November 3 (five years ago) and although we're in Orange County, CA - it still felt like fall. :) I didn't get to wear a lovely cardigan like these ladies, but I LOVE that look!

I wear a cardigan every single day of the year. I decided a long time ago that I will wear one on my wedding day.
ReplyDeleteThe first picture absolutely took my breath away. To be honest, when I saw the title of your blog on my post I wondered to myself why would anyone wear a cardi on their wedding day??? Happy to report that because of these pictures, my mind has been opened again. LOVE this idea.

I love it, its soft romantic cozy.....I have actually been looking at something sweet to throw on on my day.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how this could be a don't--it's fashion meeting function! Cardigans are the best. Such a do!
ReplyDeleteWe were married last year outside in a freak blizzard (our anniversary this year was during Sandy, what's next :) I was so thankful that I had grabbed my great aunt's fur trimmed vintage cardigan that morning. Not only did it keep me warm, it was the perfect "something old", and looked amazing in all of the snow photos we took.
ReplyDeleteProbably not if if was a beach wedding but I love the look in all these photos. It definitely brings a sweetness and innocence to the photos :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks lovely on brides who are built like ballerinas.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of cardigans over wedding dresses. They always say that a bride should still try to look like herself on her wedding day and since I wear cardigans all the time, I think it would be the perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteThe red cardigan is my favorite. I'm a huge fan of autumn weddings but without the kitchy pumpkin theme.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove all of them! I would definitely have considered it - my first wedding I wore a printed long dress (I was 22) - it was January, but sunny and in the 70s. Second wedding was in October (30 years later - different husband) and I wore a dark green suit. But...I love cardigans - wear one almost every day - so these brides look great to me!
ReplyDeleteDone properly, on the right figure, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI find all these looks completely adorable. I vote "yes!"
ReplyDeleteWinter weddings have that intimate, cozy appeal. I love how Scandinavian these looks are! The flower crown is such a romantic touch.
ReplyDeleteI think that cardigans can be a cute accessory. I definitely think that some pictures without, because you bought the dress for the dress, but why not wear a cute cardi too?
ReplyDeleteWe had an autumn wedding in the mountains and it was freaking cold! It snowed as we said our vows, which was amazing, and afterward I wore my husband's suit jacket... it was so sweet.
ReplyDeleteLook at those lovely photos... of course cardigans can totally be worn at weddings!
ReplyDeleteWe were married in Italy last year in the summer, and I still managed to squeeze a bright red cardigan into the mix (for photos see http://randomlyhappytoday.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/holy-tulle-batman.html). Though I'll be the first to admit that they work best for less formal weddings!

uhmmm your dress is to die for! such a pretty wedding!

Yes to both questions :)
ReplyDeleteMy weeding was on 1st December, still Autumn but a pretty cold day. I wore a very and unusual shawl. Don't have a digital photo to show you...it was almost 11 years ago, oh my!
Cardigans are always a do! I'm getting married in a few weeks and will definitely be wearing one :)
ReplyDeleteNO, I like the above idea of the Groom's jacket if needed though. Sweet and symbolic....
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty, I would do it. I am supposed to get married January 17... we'll see.
ReplyDelete-Sonya
ADORE the top one.
ReplyDeleteyears ago, before i even met my husband, i bought a beautiful Nanette Lepore ivory cashmere cardigan with a silk ruffle neckline and cuffs off the sale rack at Anthropologie thinking that i'd wear it at my future autumn wedding. alas, i got married in July in Vermont in the midst of a record heat wave. i guess i'll continue to save it for something special!
I think cardigans and weddings are a perfect match...so that would definitely be a yes for me! And I especially love it when bride's match their cardigan with their color palette...so cute!
ReplyDeleteFor me it's a DO! I'm getting married next fall and plan on splurging for some cashmere for the reception. It's your wedding day you should be comfortable!!!
ReplyDeleteHi!! Did you write this post geared at me?! :) I thought so :) I am getting married in just 8 short weeks--right smack dab in the middle of winter! I am choosing to forego the cardigan though, trust me, the weight of the wedding dress is enough to keep me warm in Anartica! To check out how I'm doing things, or to see our recent winter wedding invitations...
ReplyDeleteaudrieis.blogspot.com
You're reading my mind. I was just researching what to wear for warmth over my dress in a few weeks and saw this post linked from pinterest! There's another beautiful example of this in the Vinewood Surprise Wedding post on StyleMePretty. Love where your head's at!
ReplyDeleteThat cardigan in the first photo is perfect. If I were, it would be a princessy dress with a nubby cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI did! It was a cool summer day in San Diego & I wore a yellow cardigan from cake cutting til the end! My favorite photos all have me in that lemon yellow sweater. I love it.
ReplyDeleteDO!
ReplyDeleteI think cardigans over femenine wedding dresses are beautiful and sweet. I love the first one, it looks so fisherman.
www.guioteca.com/accesorios-y-zapatos/
Oh I wish I can get married again (with the same person!!!) to wear a cardigan!!! My wife and I got married in a Mediterranean island in May, so there was no need of cardigans whatsoever. She did wear a denim jacket that night though, and she looked gooooooooorgeous!!! She was wearing the same dress as you did!! We both bought our wedding gowns in JCrew. We discovered them thanks to you! Since it was a same sex marriage it was a bit difficult to find two beautiful dresses that went well together, if you know what I mean.. Anyway, we looked gorgeous ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just wore a mustard yellow one over my dress last month...you can see it here---> http://shorthistoryofnow.blogspot.com/2012/10/if-i-could-catch-world-in-hourglass.html
ReplyDeleteWe had an August wedding in Greece so it really couldn't have been more summery! I think the cardigans look cute but their definitely for a specific type of wedding. I just love the idea of a Christmas wedding though!
ReplyDeleteMaria xx
www.cheekypinktulip.blogspot.com
I got married on Halloween and ended up wearing a white, fitted sweatshirt over my dress which actually was kind of awesome because the mix of sweatshirt and lacy dress gave off a punky vibe that suits me. It also made me feel less "precious" which was so necessary at the end of the night!
ReplyDeleteIn my humble opinion, some of those cardigan's are not fancy enough for a wedding. Particularly #1 and the other beige wrap-ish one. Love the red and mint green. Overall, I think it's a DO for the right wedding.
ReplyDeleteI just got married on October 7 in Toronto, and to travel to and from the venue, I wore a Banana Republic black blazer over top of my wedding dress ("Sarabeth" style from J. Crew). It looked really sophisticated and chic, and I was tempted to keep the blazer on all evening, but the back of my dress was so lovely, I didn't want to cover it up!
ReplyDeleteit was FREEZING the day of my (late) fall wedding. so i wore my grandmother's fur stole over my wedding dress. it was so warm. and so special. felt a little bit like i had her there with me.
ReplyDeleteps, love the cardigans though! i think they look so sweet.
I got married on Cape Cod on 11/11/11 and I totally wore a cardi! :)
ReplyDeleteYes. My son just married his beautiful bride outdoors in the mountains of North Carolina in October. After the vows there was dancing and dinner in an open pavilion and Hannah wore a soft ivory sweater, a fur neck wrap and beautiful mocha leather gloves and was as warm for the evening as she always is warm in heart. It was a delightful look!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like Bowen Island in the first photograph. I think the cardigan definitely suits the laid-back island lifestyle there. I say yes!
ReplyDeleteI think that a spencer sounds more appropriate. But I also love cardigans and (yes!) I probably would wear it! Looks so classic and charming.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea!! I am getting married in January in VT... I am going to need something a little warmer than a cardigan so I just recently bought my bridesmaids and myself short leather moto jackets. I like the juxtaposition with the elegant dresses, really cute alternative to the cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI love this... absolutely gorgeous. Makes me hope one day for a winter wedding.
ReplyDeletehttp://jillfavorites.blogspot.com/
I did! My dress wasn't a traditional wedding dress, but a red cocktail dress and I wore a red cardigan over it, since it was a cold winter night. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this leading photo SO much. I think sleeves in general as a wedding dress trend are just lovely!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the combo... I wore a cardigan over my wedding dress, too. a hot pink one (to match my shoes) - there's one image of it on my blog here http://marusakovacic.typepad.com/prettymerry/2012/05/monthiverssary-no-8.html I only wore it during the church ceremony, because it was really hot that day, but I'd choose the same style anytime:)
ReplyDeleteMy wedding was super casual and actually more of an elopement - but my dress was traditional (w/o train) and a year later I am not regretting my "pop of color" cardi one bit .
ReplyDeleteI wore one at mine!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/hucktheduck/6474261417/in/set-72157628326164261
I got married in the fall and it was lovely. Turned out that we had a strange warm spell so the weather was absolutely perfect. I had a wrap that matched my dress, but I really do like the look of a cardigan with a wedding dress. In fact, I just first noticed this look yesterday when reading a blog post about a wedding and the bride was wearing one! Her look was vintage and it was really pretty.
ReplyDeleteLoulou
I wore a cardigan and I wouldn't have felt like 'me' without it...

We had a New Years Eve wedding (most fun EVER). I live in a very snowy place but we had a random warm snap so it was about 50 degrees outside. We took some outdoor photos before the ceremony and I wore an ivory wrap. My cheeks were nice and rosy by the time the ceremony started.
ReplyDeleteI totally love off-season weddings.
Such a do for fall and winter weddings. It's all about finding the right color and frabic for your dress and theme. Love the look
ReplyDeleteDefinite 'DO'!! I'm helping a friend plan her fall Pensylvania wedding for next year and I've been gushing over cardigan-wedding dress looks. Love love love.
ReplyDeletetherosereord.blogspot.com
That's such a cute idea. I would have never thought of doing that. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyes, yes, yes... i'd say 'i do' in a cardigan any day!
ReplyDeletexx, kara
These are cute, and if you have to for weather or religious reasons, it's cute, but I wouldn't dream of trying to cover up one of the most beautiful, expensive pieces I will ever own.
ReplyDeleteI had a Fall wedding. It wasn't supposed to be cold, but it was in the 50s and raining, so I pretty much had to wear a cardigan! I didn't wear it down the aisle, but i wore it the rest of the day :) It was mustard so it matched my decor. All of the women in these photos look so elegant! Mine was more casual, but then again, my wedding was extremely casual.
ReplyDeletei think this is a gorgeous look, i saw sarah yates' elopement, and she wore a hot pink cardigan over a monique lhuillier dress, just gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a wedding photographer in Juneau, Alaska, and have shot many a wedding where the bride wears a cardigan. It's kind of a must here, so I say it's a do! :) At the most recent wedding I shot the bride wore a hand-knit shrug that her mother had knitted and it was gorgeous! Photo here: http://pinterest.com/pin/244390717250411462/
ReplyDeleteHi again,
ReplyDeleteMy first comment kind of disapeared. what a grand idea, it is so much better to wear a bolero or a sweater than totally freeze, my favorite style is the fourth picture.
No I did not cry at my wedding but I will do my best not to cry at my son's wedding june 30th 2012. Happiness can make you cry as easily as saddness.
Thanks for a great blog,

oh I think its absolutely gorgeous for a laid-back autumn wedding.
ReplyDeleteI love the look for photos, especially the outdoor ones. No sure I would want to wear a cardigan for the whole wedding/reception though. It has a very cute vintage-y feel though!!
ReplyDeleteLove these pictures and the idea of a cardigan. So cozy and pretty. Favorite is the bride under the umbrella. I was married on a cool fall day and had to put on my husband's jacket outside. Wish I had thought of the cardi...
ReplyDeleteI did! I loved my cream cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI like the middle few pics with a bit of frill, While I love a chunky cardigan, a wedding feels like the one time that a bit of glamour is in order.. though I stand by that it's the bride and groom's day, so if they want to wear snuggies, by all means.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, some tears were shed on my wedding day..
We live in Wisconsin, where spring weather is notoriously unpredictable. When I heard our wedding day weather forecast, I immediately ran to J Crew and found a beautiful navy blue merino cardigan that I wore over my knee-length ivory sheath, so I wouldn't freeze and be miserable all day long. We had outdoor photos, and I was so glad to have it to slip into, and it looked cute when I wore it in some of the shots. A wedding "do", for sure!
ReplyDeleteIf you find a classy cardigan to wear that accents the dress, go for it.
ReplyDeleteI love the first picture. That would easily be me.
ReplyDeleteAnd these completely changed my idea of a fall/winter wedding! I would totally do it!
I had a Fall wedding and bought a sweet little cardigan on Etsy, but the weather was so unseasonably warm that I didn't end up wearing it until late at night. We were married in a vineyard and spent the night there in a vintage camping trailer, so we partied around the bonfire all night long! It was the most fun Ive ever had!
ReplyDeleteI think it's cute for an outdoor reception. It makes the night more cozy & intimate. I like the one with the red. Vintage & cute.
ReplyDeleteflouncesandhubbub.blogspot.com
I would wear one if I had to! I had a winter wedding in 2010 - Jan 2, although in Houston and we don't really get a real winter. The weather was really nice! Our ceremony was outside. Not cold enough for a cardigan though.

I'd would totally rock a cardigan over a wedding dress, super chic!
ReplyDeleteI am planning on wearing a cardigan for my wedding because I am not particularly fond of them and would not feel my most beautiful with one on :}
ReplyDeleteNever really thought of a cardigan over a wedding dress.. but it's cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel like I would totally cry at my wedding. I recently went to a wedding as a plus one where I didn't know anyone there, and I still cried. haha
We got married on December 20th. Perfect time of year- everyone is in such a celebratory mood!
ReplyDeleteI think the first bride and the one with the red cardi looked particularly gorgeous making the combo, love the idea.
ReplyDeleteI love a sensible bride...great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the bride with the red cardi, with cute shoes too!
ReplyDeletei love cardigans..even over a wedding dress... who wants to be cold? and I cried at my first (which didn't last) and not at my second (which is still going strong)..
ReplyDeletebut here in hawaii no brides ever have cardigans. http://www.wendylaurel.com
I would totally have worn a cardigan! I wish I'd thought of it! We got married in a Kentucky October two years ago, and the weather was a perfect fall day - didn't need the cardigan...
ReplyDeleteI would totally have worn a cardigan! I wish I'd thought of it! We got married in a Kentucky October two years ago, and the weather was a perfect fall day - didn't need the cardigan...
ReplyDeletelast cardi is divine
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration! I'm getting married in January and was wondering if I should wear a cardigan that I'm knitting. It's the first cardigan I've ever made, and though it's not done yet I'm quite satisfied with the result. There's also another story to this cardigan since I began knitting it just about the time when I got pregnant. Now I just have to find a dress that goes with it (and fits my growing belly) ...
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the first one: so romantic and naif! I'd like to marry during a sunny hot day but, if i'll change my mind, i'd love to dress in that way!

Oooh so very pretty!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I got married mid-winter on a farm in a valley, we had a gorgeous sunny day and it only got colder later that afternoon, I wore a knitted wrap over my wedding dress for when it got cold and it worked so beautifully with the rustic setting and casual tea party out in the mountains.
The bride wedding dress is very beautiful, I like it very much, you visit my website http://www.alicheap.com, there are many photos in it
ReplyDeleteThe wrap cardigan shown above was inspiration to me (I can't remember where I saw it posted originally) and I bought a fuzzy, cashmere number from BHLDN that I adore. My wedding isn't until December 30, which is a shame because I know I'll wish I could add my beautiful cardigan to my Christmas party outfit rotation!
ReplyDeletelieslmorris.blogspot.com
Lovely photos! The wedding dress is simple yet beautiful. I love the 5th and 7th pictures dress.
ReplyDeleteAh that first couple are my good friends!! How exciting to see their photo on your blog, all the way from Canada! They got married at a small ceremony on one of the gulf islands in BC. Beautiful! That photo melts my heart, every time.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I'm in love! I'm getting married in early March of 2014, so this would be so pretty in either wintery weather or the fresh air of spring!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea so much I had to sneak some of these pictures for my own wedding blog. :)

Gorgeous post! I love the mint green one in the fields. I've been having a wedding fever lately...A good number of my friends have been getting married one after the other this year. They all look gorgeous in their wedding dress that I can't help but day-dream about my own. I always wanted a beach wedding, but after seeing this post, I'm thinking a fall wedding over a blanket of maples leaves would be just as beautiful. Thank you, Joanna.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful brides!
ReplyDeleteI didn´t have a cardigan when I got married on a very cold September day in 2008...so I think wearing a cardigan with your wedding dress is a great idea and it looks gorgeous.

I think it could work if done right! I like the women with the umbrella! I think that one looks best

I love it! But I prefer more non-traditional looks to begin with! I think I prefer the one with the umbrella, but also the light blue cardigan suits that bride so well!
ReplyDeleteThere are no dos and don'ts for weddings, as long as it's good for the two of you.
ReplyDeleteI wore a yellow cardigan with a jewelled Marchesa dress for my wedding this year....it was a really lovely soft thin cashmere one, and kept me warm in the evening when we were outdoors in the desert. I loved the contrast of the yellow and soft knit with the voluminous big silk skirt... it kind of looked like a 2 piece!

ReplyDeleteAwesome wedding photos. Really i did not see.. Your wedding dress is so nice.
ReplyDeleteI dream of having a fall wedding and would totally rock a cardigan to ward off the chill!! The first photo is my favorite. It is the kind of lovely that makes my heart ache a little bit, in a good way.
ReplyDeleteI did not cry at my first wedding, and I think that's because I knew it wasn't right ... but I know I'll cry when I marry Matt!!
DO! I love the idea of pairing unexpected pieces together. The first and second photos are my absolute favorite!!!

I did a cardi for my wedding! A very delicate, light teal wool cardi on top of my me-made ivory silk dupioni dress. It was cold (late October) and the ceremony was outside so I had to wear a sweater. And you know I think it looks really cute, cozy and natural... less fussy! I love all the ones pictured here!
ReplyDeleteAnd I TOTALLY cried when saying my vows. I couldn't help it. I just felt everything I was saying, the vows I had written especially for my husband, and it made me weepy with joy.
We traveled by boat from our wedding to our reception so I wore a cardigan over my dress for that part of the day.
ReplyDeleteIt was a necessity more than a conscious choice although I've always loved the contrast between formal/evening dresses and cardigans. (And it ended up being a breezy day so I was pleased to have it.)
This post has made me wish a little that I had chosen a cardigan that could play more of a starring role in my bridal outfit.
Thanks for sharing Joanna x
IT"S A DO from me I love a good cardi the top three picture are my fav. very pretty
ReplyDeleteAw, that's so lovely ^_^ .
ReplyDeleteI never go sleeveless so have knit a matching cropped cardi to wear with my strapless dress & plan to wear it for both ceremony and reception next November. To dress it up I'm beading the trim to match the belt and neckline details of the dress so it looks more like an ensemble and less like an afterthought.
ReplyDeleteSo glad this is now a trend--not that I wouldn't have done it anyway!
The 4th couple down with the scarf and two-toned wedding dress-- I sent the picture to my best friend telling her that is what I wanted my wedding dress to look like next year, but I had no idea where to get something like that. She texted back and told me that she knows that couple because she went to college with them! Now I can ask her directly where she got it. Thanks for posting it so I could make that connection!!
ReplyDeleteDo or don't? I did.
