New glasses

Alex always makes fun of me for losing my glasses. I leave them everywhere: the playground, cabs, friends' houses. "Where are my glasses?" must be the line spoken most often in our apartment. (No one ever knows.)

Finally, this summer, I lost my beloved glasses once and for all, and spent a few months blind as a bat. Luckily for me, an adorable reader (below) tweeted me about her newest pair; and I loved them so much, I got the exact same ones. (Thanks, Katie!)

The glasses are from Lookmatic, my favorite online eyewear shop. Thankfully they're affordable (just $95 including the prescription), and you can try them on virtually. Now I just have to hold onto this pair!!

  10. A thought: Backup glasses. Seriously, buy two pair. Especially at that price. Then if you lose or break one, you have another.

  11. I got glasses from Warby Parker this year. Same kind of deal, $95 for the Rx glasses BUT as an added bonus it's buy a pair give a pair, so for $95 you're not only getting your own super stylin' pair, you're giving one to someone in need! pretty groovy, huh?

  12. Oohhh cute. I got new glasses last month after SEVEN YEARS with the same pair/ perscription. They're similar to yours, but more round than rectangular. Yay new glasses!

    Hope this feedback is helpful.

  15. So cheap!! Amazing. And I love that you can try them on virtually. I'm always reluctant to buy glasses online because I can't imagine committing without having tried them on first. Heading over to check it out right now!

  16. Love those!

If you're in a pickle again at some point, or just want an emergency back-up/playground/messy things pair, my boyfriend ordered his Rx glasses from Coastal (coastal.com), and because he used the code FIRSTPAIRFREE he only paid $16. Yes. $16. I think he got the Derek Cardigan tortoiseshell frames...I love 'em!

  26. Love! I got my first pair of glasses ever recently, from Warby Parker ( http://www.warbyparker.com/ ) which has a similar setup - $95 including prescription lenses and they have a virtual try-on and a free at-home try-on program. They're hipstery and cute and I love them. :)

  32. I like the price. I spent way more than that on just one pair and I'm not even that in love with them. I've been wearing glasses since the third grade and I wear them all the time, so it's important that I have cute ones.

  33. Cute! I just got new glasses too (from Target Optical). They should be in next week, and I'm so excited!!

  37. cute! my husband has those *exact* frames from lookmatic, which i learned about from your blog. very reasonable price point and fast service! side note--we happened to be in austin when you were visiting and he was in your photos. he's the guy in the green shirt at jo's coffee shop. we died laughing when we saw it online! and nerd alert, i totally checked to see if he was wearing your frames in the austin picture, but he had his sunglasses on. he was matching toby's shoes though. internet connections ftw! ;)

  38. they look great!

my husband recently bought glasses from classic specs (www.classicspecs.com) and is really happy with them. he tried them on at brooklyn flea in williamsburg then ordered them online. all of their glasses are $89 and nice quality - glasses can be crazy expensive so i wanted to recommend!

  40. Joanna, I am the same way with my sunglasses and mittens. After thinking my beloved way farers were gone for good, my boyfriend found them on top of the organ of our college's chapel when he was there to practice violin (seriously random!!). Another time, I lost my favorite pair of mittens and then found them again in a potted plant in the dining hall. What!?

PS I love glasses even though I am blessed with near perfect vision. I think they look so relaxed and sophisticated. I keep asking for a pair with blank lenses from Warby Parker or Lookmatic for Christmas. Maybe this year will be the year! :)

  45. Check out 39dollarglasses.com and coastal.com. At coastal you can get your 1st pair free (lenses not included). Also retailmenot.com has discount codes for both sites. I just got 2 pairs of glasses for $50 total and I LOVE them. Both sites also have virtual try on...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Those are adorable! I buy mine from Warby Parker, same price + they have sunglasses. They also let you do a free try-on at home (you pick 5 pairs, and they send them to you to try on at no cost!!). I think they donate a lot of glasses too!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Love them! You pull off glasses like this so well. I really don't think I could. Well that and I don't even wear glasses! Sometimes I wish I did for the sheer fashion of them but then I realize I'll probably eventually need them down the road anyways so I should enjoy my time without them for now! Good to know there's a great online site if I ever do need them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. you look so good in those frames! And what a fabulous price. I have glasses too but hardly wear them out in public so I dont have that issue of loosing them

    ReplyDelete
  49. Cute! I always feel like an imposter when I wear glasses. I'm just not cool enough, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I really like those! Though, I buy mine from Zenni Optical and not only is the service unbelievably fast, but I've never spent more than $20 on a pair of glasses, including prescription. And they last ages. Combined with the fact that I get compliments all the time and I can afford to get more than one pair of glasses, it's money well spent!

    ReplyDelete
  51. These are SO cute! I love them and might just have to buy them.

  52. Loooove them ! I will look up that store ! I bought new ones a couple of month ago and wear them everyday since I can't wear contact lens !

  53. Cute, but be wary of ordering glasses online. For proper optics, your face should be measured and the glasses should be customized to your particular structure. You're compromising your sight when you purchase glasses without these measurements, so it's honestly worth the extra money you'd pay for well-made frames and lenses.

  55. Funny that you posted this today. I too had a beloved pair of glasses... And they were also from Lookmatic.com this morning I set me on a ledge behind our couch, went into another room for a minute and came out to find our cute little staffordshire puppy (Gauge) all snuggled up on his couch, happy as a clam, with my glasses (now mangled and missing a lens) in his mouth. I love that little giuy but that just broke my heart. Needless to say, if eh cant be fixed, I will be purchasing the exact same pair again because I love them that much.:)

  59. You should tell lookamatic to put a little super strong sticker on their glasses and make an app that tracks the glasses. Or something like that. So when people lose their glasses they can track them with their phone :)

  63. They look really great on you! I'm a glasses-wearer as well and I feel my glasses are a part of me, of my appearance. And it's fun to switch - I think. So I suggest to all to get more than 1 pair - just to jazz it up a little!

    Love,

  67. They look lovely! I generally don't like glasses that make a big effort to be geeky (too annoying for me, a genuine geek) but these fall just on the right side of nerdsville.

(Can I say to the poster above PLEASE don't get round geeky glasses with blank lenses? It's so crazy! Embrace your good vision! Specs are not a fashion accessory!)

  74. Those are adorable. I also don't think i could pull those off. I ordered glasses online recently and when they got here, I put them on and everything was blurry. Obviously I can't wear them. I'm guessing that I would need to be measured or something? I don't know what happened. I guess I won't order online again, which is a shame because there are some great deals online.

  75. Mirror Sunglasses are available in several different designs. The sunglasses most frequently worn by police and military are Aviators. This style received its name around the 1940's and 1950's when they were popular sunglasses for military pilots.
