Have a lovely weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? Any fun plans? We're having dinner with friends tonight at the hidden restaurant Hudson Clearwater, and then spending the weekend doing anything but watching TV. Who knows what will unfold!! :) Hope you have a good one, and here are a few fun links from around the web...

Wouldn't you love to walk through this rain room?

Wise words.

Dream fall shoes.

A town with no roads.

Halloween costume inspired by the Red Balloon.

Baby walrus! Mustachioed!

For New York readers: This motherhood panel looks amazing.
For LA readers: Cup of Jo reader Alison had a tumor removed (and is fine now!) but has crazy debt due to briefly not having insurance. She happens to be amazing at braiding hair, so she's hosting a braid bar on October 20th to raise money. It'll be a fun night for ladies to get their hair braided at a cool store in LA and have drinks together!
Have a good one, everyone! xo

  15. When I saw the link to the rain room in London, I immediately thought of another rain room (actually an entire rain house!) that I saw a few weeks ago while visiting friends in Sydney. (This exhibit has since moved to Denmark). I thought you might like to see, if you haven't already, so here is a link to an article on it:

    http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2011/june/the-glue-society-raining-house-sculpture-by-the-sea-denmark

It was striking to walk by on a sunny day (not a cloud in site) and to see a group of people in bright yellow rain coats and soaking wet.

Have a lovely weekend as well, Joanna!

I have never felt more like a new york city local eating at a place with a secret door. The food was out of this world, the cocktails were fabulous and the atmosphere was just perfect :) I can't wait to go back again when I visit NYC! have a great dinner! xoxo

  31. They used to send us all into the auditorium when it would rain, in Burbank, CA, in elementary school and show us The Red Balloon. This weekend...Husband and I baked bread tonight and went to a friend's for dinner. Tomorrow I would really like to get the nursery curtains ironed and hung up...also now that I am 37 weeks plus a couple of days I should maybe consider packing a hospital bag.

  35. I cancelled my cable service about four months ago (because I was sick of paying the bill!) and I've never been so much more relaxed, yes I sometimes miss my shows but I can always catch them later on Netflix! I spend my nights and weekends reading or exercising and listening to music, I've even had a better relationship with my mom now that I have more spare time in the evenings to call her and catch up on random little things(: It's been much easier for me not having tv but! everyone's different.

  44. just a comment:
I think it is great what Alison does to get money for her surgery!

How can or could anyone living in the US be agains health care for EVERYBODY ANYTIME??? That still makes people in Europe speachless! I am sorry that this can happen!

    ReplyDelete

    1. As an european I completely agree with you. In Austria no one has to pay for surgeries like this! Unbelievable!

  46. I live in London and I went to the Rainroom with my boyfriend yesterday. Its amazing! Though we did wait an hour and a half to only be in the actual installation for 10 minutes it was worth the experience. I would advise bringing books if you're going to visit when its just come to town.

  47. I live in London and went to the Rain Room exhibit on Monday - it really is stunning. If you walk too quickly you do get wet though!

It's super popular at the moment so the queue is pretty long (we waited an hour and a half). It's on until March though so it will get less busy in time!

  52. Hey it will be great to hear how you feel after not watching tv after a week. We "quit" over a year ago, and havent looked back. I just had this idea as a happy challenge.. I was reading the colors we wear and how dull colors (like grey and black) can "clash with your aura" and bring moods down. How about a week of not wearing black?! I think that would be a hard but good challenge. What do you think? :) Love your blog btw

  58. I loved the quote by L. Tom Perry. I was having a "Let's Julia Day" which I think I do a little too often. That quote reminded me that it's not okay to treat myself so poorly. I loved it so much I printed out a few copies and surreptitiously hung them around the workplace so the others folks that I work with can be reminded that they are worth being nice to themselves too.
