Have a great fall weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? A pipe burst in our apartment last Saturday night (drag), so we've been staying with friends all week. Right now, we're staying at my friend Leigh's house in New Jersey, and I have to say, Toby has become a big fan of the suburbs, with grassy backyards, basement playrooms and minivans you can climb around in. Our apartment is going to seem teeny when we go back! Hope you have a great one, and here are a few fun links from around the web...

If you are around NYC this weekend, Stone Barns is having its annual Harvest Fest.

Everyone's favorite scent.

Lena Dunham is writing a book!

What an inspiring take on beauty.

Little artist costumes.

Easy apple breakfast.

A tattoo for overenthusiasts (like myself).

I want to eat this cookbook cover.

A mountaintop wedding.

Shades of autumn.

Eight birthday traditions to try.

Rad Obama stamp.

Dog ears.

Who wants to ride in this hot-tub boat?!

A few readers asked for more loafer suggestions, so here are:
* Penny loafers.
* Gold loafers.
* Oxblood loafers.
* Less expensive loafers.

Plus, three fall posts you may have missed:
* Hot air balloon ride.
* Pumpkin cupcakes.
* Being outside.

Finally, thank you for all your heartfelt comments on the sleep post. It's amazing to witness how much everyone loves their children and wants what's best for them, and the beauty of that is how we can all figure out what that means for our sweet families. xoxo

  1. never lived in a city...always lived in the burbs....we do sort of get set in our ways...I'm sure our lives are very different, yet oddly similar

  3. I absolutely love Lena Dunham and GIRLS, and can't wait to read her book! We watched the first episode and my fiance, who is 13 years my senior, turned to me and said, "That is way too scarily close to the last five years of your life." She's honest and raw, and I adore her. Thanks for the link!

  13. If I may make a Loafer suggestion, Joanna (alas, they're not shiny ones, BUT!) I got a great pair of (extremely affordable) loafers from Target. I wear them ALL the time. They're super comfortable, casual and stylin'.

  17. I love to have apple pie in my breakfast. You're blessed with all the things while living there without a big effort. What about the pipe burst? Have you got it repaired?

  18. That really sucks about your apartment!!! I grew up in an old country house in Oregon so I know what's all about!!

    I love that Obama stamp and am equally as excited for Lena's book as I was for GIRLS ! Happy Weekend!

  19. The Sikh lady is incredible - how humbling she is!! I love something Kristin Armstrong said once - how she realised that beauty wasn't something external to be attained and strived for but was the reflection of the person on the inside. She said it better, obviously. This lady is the embodiment of the beauty Kristin meant!

  37. Oh my gosh. That wedding dress is perfect. How romantic. I could never get married on a mountaintop though as I have a perpetual fear of heights :)

    As for my weekend? I'm staying in with a good book (rereading the Hobbit, I am absolutely a dork) and a big mug of tea. It is just too cold to do anything else in my neck of the woods!

    The Obama stamp was great, I just saw him on Thursday when he came to Madison to speak ;D
    And who knew there was actually a word for the smell after it rains... petrichor...
    well even my mac doesn't know that word, it thinks its misspelled, hehe

  45. Hey, Joanna! I love your weekend roundups..just wanted to mention to you though that it seems like some of the text on the new layout has gotten smooshed...over on the right where you have your mini-bio, the links for 'About Me', 'Contact', and 'FAQ' are right up underneath the other text. I know the words 'husband' and 'toddler son' have hyperlinks embedded and they are hard to find with the other links there.

    Just wanted to let you know! (and by the way, this is the new design that I voted for!!)

  46. I saw your husband and sweet little guy today!

    I've been following your blog for a few years (got hooked on those weekend round-ups) as I am a former Michigander turned east-coaster myself. I've been living in Brooklyn for a few months now, but don't make it to your neck of the woods so often. Had one of those double-take moments where you can't place how you recognize someone's face, scanning all the routes of meeting someone (work? friends? grocery store?) and then I saw Toby and it clicked. They were adorable, rolling around the stroller on a cozy grey day. From one Michigander to another - well done!

  49. I commented before, but I wanted to add about loafers (since I wear them nearly everyday) the less expensive ones can be just as cute and comfortable as the expensive ones. I have the gold Anthropologie pair and they cut into my heels a bit, but with a band-aid and insole they're not bad. My favorites though are Steve Madden's loafers. I have a black studded pair, a pair of patent burgundy penny loafers, and a pair of leopard loafer/flat hybrids and they are fabulous! Comfy, relatively cheap (I paid no more than $30 a piece) and super cute.

  51. Is it bad that I came into this post (from Google reader) to see what ignorant comments would be made about the Obama stamp? People never disappoint! Although they shouldn't have said anything about you. :(
