Mindy Kaling's new sitcom

Have you guys heard that Mindy Kaling will star in a new sitcom this fall? "The Mindy Project" is all about a quirky OB/GYN who's trying to figure out her messy dating life. As Salon points out, the premise sounds pretty typical, but Kaling is so awesome and funny (and Emmy-nominated) that the show sounds promising. Here's the trailer. Will you be watching the show?

This looks AWESOME!

I definitely will be watching this show. Love Mindy and happy to see smart female writing that is focused on being funny, rather than bitter.

Oh my goodness!!! I'm picturing a combo of New Girl + The Office, which is wonderful. I loved that Andy made an appearance! Can't wait for this!

Her book was awesome, so I'll definitely be checking it out!

definitely will be tuning in. her book, 'is everyone hanging out without me?' had me laughing the entire time!

Her mother is an OB/GYN, so that makes sense. Actually, I read online that her mother passed away in late January--is this true?? If so, I feel so bad for Mindy. She seems really close to both of her parents in her book (which I too loved).

Emily, totally what I was thinking! New Girl + the Office! It does seem like the other shows out there, but I'm sure it'll be funny... although I don't know if I can get my boyfriend to watch with me. haha

I love Mindy and will watch anything she does. Also, you recommended New Girl, which I love (and I subsequently told all my girlfriends and they all love. So you have a pretty good TV recommendation tract record.

"you are a rapist of peace and quiet."

has the potential to be really funny, just hope they don't make it super cliched. also great to see a non-caucasian in a leading role! go Fox!

Love her! It's awesome to see more and more smart and funny women working in TV (writing and acting). Her book was awesome too.

Yes, I find Mindy hilarious. She sooo deserves her own sitcom. I can't wait to watch.

Totally unrelated to this post, but LOVED your picture and short article in the recent Whole Living magazine--beautiful! I've been following your blog for awhile and what a fun surprise to find you and your family at the end of the magazine :)

I will at least try it since I love her. I just finished her book. She is hilarious. I actually was going to just buy it on my iPad but I was at the bookstore meeting a friend and randomly picked it up and after five pages I was laughing so much that I had to buy it. Does this mean she's leaving the office? I need Kelly Kapoor in my life too.

I might have to start watching this! I love Mindy on The Office and her book is fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

So glad I'll still get to see her on a weekly basis after The Office ends next year. I loved her book too. This show seems similar to Hart of Dixie (anyone else watch that?) but its Mindy so it looks really funny and quirky. I can't wait!

Jenny said...

cannot wait! love mindy, her book it something i preach from on a regular basis :)

Mindy Day said...

Hmm sorry guys, but got to say it looks like just another crap, overly promoted poorly scripted American show !

PS The Office was an English show first- watch Derek also by Ricky Gervais, it will touch your heart more than this generic bull****

I just saw the trailer for this on hulu yesterday!! I'm really curious about it!! I think it will be a tad ridiculous but her acting is just so natural (in an over the top way- if that makes sense).

Dennise said...

awesome! it seems right up my alley! I hope that other office cast members make guest appearances too, I'd love to see BJ Novak or John Krasinski as her potential love interests. :)

She is so funny, I use to not like her but she's really made a name for herself. Can't wait to check it out.

I think this looks hilarious! I've been pleasantly surprised by New Girl, which has actually only gotten better IMO since it first aired and I think this one is going to be a great addition.

This just doesn't look good. There were some funny jokes but something was just very 'off' in this trailer...I don't know if it's Mindy as lead character, or the direction maybe?

monsterscircus said...

Very cool, I hope they will show it here i Denmark some time. Very nice blog you have and what a amazing portfolio! Have a nice day!

Oh dear, just another cliche, overdone romantic comedy/desperate girl/doctor show. Guess I'm in the minority for thinking it but seriously. Things like this make me glad we don't have tv in our house.

I always give the new shows a whirl and see if I like them...thanks for letting me know of a new one to try! :)

Yessss. This is definitely a show I can't wait for. Looks absolutely perfect!

I'm pretty sure her mom is an OB/GYN so it's kind of fun that she is playing one. I assume she is writing the show as well? I bet she gets a lot of material from her mom!

Hannah said...

Sorry, it might end up being a funny show, but it just comes across as an unsophisticated copy of Australian tv show Offspring.... which is about a quirky OB/GYN navigating her messy love life. I'm surprised Kaling can't come up with an original idea.

Eleanor said...

This looks so funny. I definitely want to tune in. I'm glad you posted about it because this is the first I've heard about it.

This is so my kind of TV show. Had some good LOL while watching just the trailer.

I'm also going to opt out on this. I think it's funny that Mindy Kaling so adeptly pointed out the cliche female characters portrayed in movies and shows, but she can't step outside of them. A doctor that ditsy is a doctor I would never go to.

Anonymous said...

This sounds like an exact copy of Offspring! An Australian show about a quirky OBG and her love life

Will definitely watch - love Mindy, and the trailer looks hilarious!
