What are you up to this weekend? We're going to grill burgers on our friends' apartment building's roofdeck. I'm looking forward to eating potato chips (my biggest weakness) and drinking beers; crossing our fingers for clear skies! Hope you have a good one, and meanwhile, here are a few great posts from around the web...A pretty song to kick off your weekend.
A hilarious tumblr written by a magazine editor.
Sweet baby announcement.
Isn't this a stunning candle display for a wedding?
Crikey, this lion would have given me a heart attack.
Toastbags for making easy grilled cheese.
World map onesie.
Cool way to eat an avocado.
This temporary tattoo made me smile.
Baby owls! So flipping cute.
Embroidered book covers.
Thanks to Oprah.com for including me in this book club article!

Oh I wish I had the weather to have a bbq too!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I'll be in celebration - my best friends just found out today they're having a little girl and I could NOT be more excited for them. Our group's first little baby... I hope it's ready for a load of very noisy aunties! Hope the weather holds for you!
Grilling burgers and eating potato chips sounds like the perfect weekend! My twin sister and I are spending our last weekend before finals watching chick flicks and having a little 'spa day' complete with mud masks, manicures, and of course a little junk food! Happy Weekend!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being included in opra.com :)
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for our first swim at the beach this weekend. It is almost summer-hot in Greece :)))
Oh Paul Newman - so dreamy! Joanna, have you seen this adorable video?? It always make me laugh & smile - http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourcommunity/2012/05/what-are-your-5-tips-for-a-happy-marriage.html Hope this dreary weather goes away for the weekend! Enough with the rain already. xo

Did you end up doing that article club, Joanna? Just on-site in NYC, I gather?
ReplyDeleteThe editorrealtalk had me busting up. I know a few folks who'll appreciate that.
Your Friday roundups are the best! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping the weather is nice, too! I'm headed up to NYC Sunday for a visit to see the Japan Deco show at the Japan Society and MOMA for the Cindy Sherman retrospective. Exciting!

ReplyDeleteIt´s chilly down here (it´s fall) and this weekend there will be a Cultural program in São Paulo called Virada Cultural. It´s a 24 hours program where there will be cultural performances all over the city. I love Virada Cultural. I'm planning to see a standy-up comedy show and a play I already saw and it´s awesome! Also, I'm going to a friend´s place for bbq! I'm pretty excited about the wekend. Can´t wait to leave the office!
Have a nice one! beijos from Brazil!
Crossing my fingers that the northeast experiences a sunny weekend! Oh, and I love the embroidered book covers - so lovely!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you!

Man, how I miss Paul Newman!
ReplyDeleteBurgers and beer, a great combination, fingers crossed for the weather! Potato chips are also my weakness although I miss the UK flavours. We call them crisps and call french fries chips, very confusing.....
ReplyDeleteI have been looking at three avocados sitting in my fruit basket all week, now I have something yummy to do with them. Love your Friday links .
I always adore your Friday posts, but those owls are just too much... Thanks Joanna! :)
ReplyDeleteohhh, Paul. I'll buy anything he tells me to.
ReplyDeleteI really admire how you make everything sound romantic and exciting and you have such a beautiful outlook on life. My boyfriend and I just had a long talk about how I was sad that things aren't exciting as they used to be (after 6 years) and your blog is always a great reminder to look forward and be excited about the small things that make every day special.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo!
OMG! the video of the lion at the zoo freaks me out! Have a good weekend!! xoxo

Toaster cheese sandwiches!! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday - loved all the links.
Thank you for beautiful Paul Newman! He is just what I needed to kick off this weekend. It's a rainy forcast her in Virginia, so there probably won't be much barbequing, but chips and beer sound like a good plan!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,

For anyone who wants to grill this weekend: you can also choose a vegetarian burger. My favorite is the carrot sesame burger. Worth a try!

Are you goin to put your Amsterdam photos up? Can't wait to see them! Happy weekend x
ReplyDeleterebecca, yes! thanks for asking! was planning to put them up this week but i ran out of time. so early next week for sure! thank you!! xoxo
ReplyDeletetrina, yes! i started the articles club in nyc -- and i'm trying to figure out a way to do it on the blog, too. would it work if i just posted a link to the article and then we all discussed it? or would we discuss it at a certain time period (like 6-8 one sunday evening or something) so that we could discuss it back and forth? still trying to figure it out:)
ReplyDeleteoh my god! this editor real talk is killing me. Anyone in publishing should see this. Thanks!
ReplyDeletecatherine, thanks for your sweet note. i think everyone (and every relationship) goes through ups and downs, excitement and normal just-plugging-along....thinking of you! i know what it's like to be in a funk, happens to everyone. xoxo sending a hug! xoxo
ReplyDeletePotato chips are my biggest weakness also :))

ReplyDeleteHe's so dreamy! Love it!! Happy weekend :) If you get a chance I relaunched my blog and would love to get your thoughts!! All things food, fashion and marriage. xx

That avoacado link reminds me of afternnon snacks with my dad, eating avocados from my grandmothers tree with a dollop of italian dressing in the well. Sweet memories (and so yummy!)
ReplyDeleteI was curious as to how an articles club would work out on the blog...everyone would have to keep refreshing or something, no? Unless there's some online forum where people could log in to chat (I'm totally clueless about this if there is). Anyway, it does sound like a fun idea!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm totally looking forward to seeing your Amsterdam photos. I'm hoping to do a solo trip there and Belgium, and maybe pop over to London for a day...or Paris! I've heard they aren't that far by train. I need my Europe fix. :) Have a great weekend.
Have a good weekend you too!!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats for the Oprah article!

My parents went to an event at Purl Soho with one of the designers of those Penguin Threads editions, and brought me back a copy of 'Emma'. It's absolutely gorgeous - they've embossed the texture of the stitching onto the cover, so you have to hold one in your hand to really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'm all for baby owls, and Linford Christie too, why not, but please don't link to the Daily Mail again! I realise that as a US girl you probably don't know this, but take it from me (a Londoner): it's a filthy rag and not fit to be mentioned on a classy site like yours. On the very rare occasions that I've seen nice British bloggers link to it, the link's been qualified with an apology!
I'm celebrating Cinco De Mayo and I've planned my whole day around it. You can check it out here http://hydropackulicity.blogspot.com/2012/05/cinco-de-mayo.html
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is as wonderful as you.
Dhila
I meant to visit your blog before, because I see all my blogfriends following you, so here I am!
ReplyDeleteNow I understand why your blog is so popular. Love it!
The Paul McCartney song put me in a much better as I am trying hard to finish up my work week! I am still at the office!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike, Joanna-- I wrote about baby birds and my new Penguin Threads version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz this week :) The former were hatched by the first graders at my school, and the latter my boyfriend surprised me with because I'm currently reading it with my second graders.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rooftops this weekend!
Oh, I forgot-- I like the article club idea too. I was thinking one way it might work is if you pick certain day of the week and posted the article in the morning along with a few starter discussion questions (questions you either came up with yourself, or had a member prepare beforehand-- I volunteer!) Then the comments section could be the forum for discussion, and while it wouldn't be a traditional internet conversation, people could post their thoughts and responses throughout the day and respond to one another's ideas.
ReplyDeleteSo in theory, someone could read the article and post her thoughts in the morning, return to the comments in the afternoon/evening and read through what other readers had to say, and then contribute additional ideas if she wishes. It would be ideal if commenters could reply to one another in threads (like on the Gawker Media sites), but I don't think blogger has that option. Maybe there is another blog hosting site that does?
Lauren
Some people already mentioned super moon -enjoy its special energy!
ReplyDeleteApart from that, running, reading, perhaps a beer or two...:)
Nice weekend to everybody!
Have you started your article reading club? I'd love to hear more about it!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend! I always look forward to Fridays to read your posts!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.allgoodthingstoday.com/
I'm graduating from college this weekend!! And my sister is in labor! So it's promising to be a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteBurgers, beer and chips? Sounds perfect!
ReplyDeleteI like that you update this blog so often by the way, especially because the more I read it, the more I enjoy it and look forward to the next post. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to amongst the (at least) 4000 words I have to write for uni this week :) Rhi xx

Paul Newman and potato chips - two of my favourite weaknesses! :D
ReplyDeleteCan always count on you to bring it with the gorgeous Paul Newman photos. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pic of Paul Newman, I mean, I did a double-take! Fabulous links, as always. By the way, we have a long weekend here and we plan on having beef cheeks in stout stew, Scootering to the park, family morning coffee and just hanging out together. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDelete!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that lion video!
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna!
ReplyDeleteI would like to send a "Hello" from Berlin!!!
I propose for an original present this blog. It´s an emergent spanish artist living in Berlin :)

I am mesmerized by the photo!
ReplyDeleteI was finding that editor's blog funny until I saw this:
ReplyDeletehttp://editorrealtalk.tumblr.com/post/22305314814/when-an-intern-pitches-a-5-000-word-narrative-feature
As someone whose has some really god-awful (and some great!) internship experiences, I have zero patience for people who look down on interns "just because they're interns" - I've seen some interns who are more qualified than the people they're working for!
I'd be really interested to hear what you had to say about internships in the arts - you tend to approach difficult subjects with an interesting angle :)
The real talk editor on tumblr is hilarious. Love that! That lion trying to eat the baby, on the other hand... omg! Not sure what I would have done. I don't think I could handle that!
ReplyDeleteGah! You got mentioned by Oprah! Okay, now you've -really- made it. Congrats, Joanna and happy weekend to ya! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful Jo! Today is Sunday already and we heading to a theme park nearby with the kids, yay!
ReplyDeleteLove that shot of Paul!! And congrats on Oprah... :)
Love the last picture of Linda and Paul on that video. Have a great weekend. We are going to lunch with friends today and then seeing the movie Footnote tonight.
ReplyDeleteBette Davis on that tumbler link is hilarious. I am still laughing.
ReplyDeleteWent to Renaissance Fair yesterday, saw a lot of great friends, helped at a non-profit booth, and today it's manure shoveling! Yeah!!!! Will make our garden grow, again and again.
ReplyDeleteHI Joanna,
ReplyDeleteJust a request. I live in NYC and I am expecting my first child in December. I am a tropical girl and none of my family members have ever seen snow or have any idea of baby's dos and don't for winter, of course other than pure common sense.
So was just hoping if you can do an article on winter babies. Must haves ,old wives tales or remedies or must dos.
Will appreciate if you can help with that, of course before December :).
Thanks!
Sak
Yes, a roof BBQ could be just what I need, I just have to find a friend, with a roof we can BBQ on... lol maybe we''l just us the deck... I'm jealous :)
ReplyDeletehttp://curvesofmyheart.blogspot.co.nz/
we have a lot of avocado in Indonesia! hmm yummiiii :D
ReplyDeleteI loved the blog. I wish to go to NYC soon, to do all amazing things you have post over here.
ReplyDeleteI heard they a gondola in Central Park, people say it is really romantic. Have you been there ?!
Wish you the best.
Thank you for the tumblr, book covers and... I didn't know you have a book club!
ReplyDeleteNow that's me, under one hour. I'm still trying to finish 'The Help' and that was my reading for March.
That lion would flip me out, too, fence or no fence!
ReplyDeletePaul Newman-- A timeless crush for sure-- what a handsome man! Love the birth announcement idea- super cute!
ReplyDeleteha my fiance just showed me that lion video yesterday. so crazy. i'm not sure i would have trusted that glass so much either. ha.
ReplyDeletei hope you had a wonderful weekend on the rooftop! it was beautiful here in upstate NY, so hopefully it was down there too :)
Such lovely links again :) Baby owls are the best!
ReplyDeleteA bit different, but I went to see a WWII reenactment on Sunday afternoon. My boyfriend participates regularly in these events and has for years. It was my first time and I have to admit it was pretty cool! Interesting, moving (a tribute to the armed forces) and a relaxing way to spend my Sunday! Not to mention my guy's a pretty cute 1940s soldier :)
ReplyDeletelove Paul Newman!
ReplyDeleteI heart you something fierce, Ms. Jo. I love your effortless, unpretentious style that is at times lovingly dorkable. And I eagerly anticipate your Friday link posts. Thanks for blogging and keep up the stellar work.
ReplyDeleteSeeing that article on Oprah was the final kick I needed to send out the invite to all my friends for our own articles club.
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning towards either the article on 20-somethings from 2 years ago (the fact that I still think about it i think is a good indication that it'll stimulate some good debate) or the article on stanford in a recent new yorker (this little article club will be happening in nyc instead of silicon valley, but as recent college grads I think it'll be interesting to think about the balance between commerce and intellectual life in universities these days, as well as the role of a university in the global-technolgoy era).
But I'd be interested in hearing what your group has been reading! It sounds like you've been thinking about the best format for this, but my advice is to post the links to the articles first, and then figure out the logistics later!
good and kindly post, welcome to out good quality but cheap price Coach Factory Outlet website.
