Toby says Night Night.

Alex and I usually put Toby to bed, but when we went out at dinner last week, our babysitter took this video of Toby saying goodnight. My heart swells whenever I hear his little voice--it's so magical to witness your child start to communicate! I can't wait to talk to him more as he grows, and hear what's going on in that little head. xoxo

Sleep well tonight, everyone!

P.S. Five more Toby videos, since I can't help it:)

That is so sweet! I was babysitting last night as well, and one of the little boys is around Toby's age. One of his favorite things to say it "Night Night" right now... it is the most precious voice ever! Ahh, I just love when they're at this point. Thanks for sharing!

Joanna, Toby is just the sweetest! What a great role model, too, when it comes to going to bed! (most kids would say: NOOO!!). I've been taking care of our neighbor baby, who is almost 14 months. He is just starting to communicate and says words like "dee" (for this), Jaaa, no and a few more. It's so great to watch him develop an understanding for language and I always wonder what goes on in the little brain of his! Thanks for sharing this cute video of Toby!

Aaawwwww, this is such a great time. His voice is adorable.

My 3 year old and I are having conversations. I can't believe we're here already. He tells me all about his day at school and which songs he wants to hear in the car. Just when I think this motherhood thing can't get any better, he sweeps me off my feet with his cute little voice and something I've never heard him say before.

My daughter is just six months old (tomorrow!) and it's almost impossible for my husband and I to imagine her walking and talking. Seeing this video reminds me not to be sad when she outgrows a set of clothes or when we have to convert the bassinet to a seat on her pram. So many wonders lie ahead!
Thank you for sharing Joanna. He is ever so sweet! xo

Yay Toby! That is so cute. It is so wonderful when your children can tell you how they are feeling using actual words. When they say "I love you Mummy" it makes my heart sing! xx

Aw that's so sweet! My toddler girl spoke her very first complete phrase the other day. All she said was 'papa is weg' (daddy left, in Dutch) but I felt like she had just recited Shakespeare! (just to be clear, daddy had left for work) :)

Hi Jo! I'm from Spain and your blog really helps me with my English, which I should improve. You teach me the practical way of writing which is the important one for me. Don't think you are only a teacher in that way, I find your thoughts really interesting, they're are related to everyday things that all of us ask. Thank you and congratulations for this personal and wonderful blog. Regards from Spain,

Anna.

I broke up with my bf yesterday. I have been thinking about it for a long time, and reading your "favorite advice" the other day really pushed my back to actually tell him. It is really hard after 2 years. I remember showing him the video with Toby saying wah-wah and laughing together. This video with Toby saying night night makes me very sentimental - but I still think that the life I want is somewhere else, and I should create it myself instead of dreaming for it every day. ....am I right?

So sweet, the little guy I babysit for immediately responds with “night night love you too” when I tuck him in at night. It melts my heart!

Hi Joanna, I love your posts about Toby. The true love that you feel for him (of course!) is so evident in your posts. He is adorable. In any case, I have 1-year old twins and am in that mode of experimenting with table foods to feed them so they actually eat a decent meal. What are some things you feed Toby for lunch and dinner?
Thanks!

I feel invested in your sweet little bug! Seeing him grow is like watching the baby of a close friend. :)

Those first words are truly heart warming! Then soon they come to a point when they just won't stop talking :)
My little girl is now 3 and talks non-stop. I love the communication but she has started to ask "why" a lot and it makes me tired thinking of answers.

aw, thank you, anonymous and anna:)

Happilyoz , yes! you did the right thing! it's so hard to go through a break-up but if the person isn't right for you, you have to do it. i promise, once you find true lasting love with a person who is a perfect match for you, you will look back on this and be so glad you did! xoxo good luck, i know it's so hard during the break-up process. xoxo

amy, twins! that's amazing. congrats and you are my hero:) for lunch/dinner, we give toby lots of things, some are more successful than others, haha. like....eggs and sausages (he loves & it's so easy), meatballs (he loves those), pasta (he's not always the biggest fan), PB&J sandwiches (loves), apple slices with peanut butter, banana slices with peanut butter, chicken/rice soup from the grocery store (he loves), avocado slices....i'll keep thinking! usually it's just kind of a mish-mash of things and we hope something appeals to him! :)

Can you STAND it? He's completely edible (I can say that, right, since I'm a mama?).

It's so special - and daunting, and terrifying, and facinating, and humbling and magical - to see your little one(s) blossom.

I have 2 year old twins and this morning my daughter leaned in to watch as I changed my son's diaper, pointed to his winky and said, "Mama, a tail!"

And hilarious, and entertaining...

P.S. Your sitter sounds so kind and loving. Hang onto her!

Cheryl said...

Just too cute! love!!!

Amy said...

Thanks, Joanna, for these great ideas. Sorry, one last question! What kind of meatballs do you give Toby? I worry that the ones I see in the store are too spicy.
