Do or Don't: Black nail polish

The other day, I was watching the (surprisingly funny) show New Girl, and the gorgeous character Julia was wearing black nail polish. Instead of looking goth, her black polish looked grown-up and sexy. Since then, black nail polish has been popping up everywhere: pretty girls around town, celebrities at events, even the finalists on The Bachelor. :) What do you think? Would you wear it?

  1. I don't go black, but almost black like a dark navy or purple.

And LOVE New Girl, it's my favorite show on tv.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I think it only works with short nails. If the nails are too long it just ends up looking vampy.

    ReplyDelete
  3. dark purple would probably look similar, but maybe less jarring...good idea xo

    ReplyDelete
  4. it's gotta be shiny and neat! no chips!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I have a dark purple, too, that I love... it makes my nails look like blackberries :o)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Definitely a 'do' if you keep it looking nice... otherwise, it looks very Emo teenager-ish.

For dark purple, I love OPI Lincoln Park After Dark, always on SHORT nails.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Definitely, yes. I wear it a lot and scotch has the best black nail polish.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Definitely do it! Its my standard go to color in the winter! I recommend Essie!

  10. i LOVE New Girl!! (: <3 and i say...yeha it kinda depends on your mood..?

When I see black I think "Kardashian" ... the entire family has been using it for the run of their many series. But I did notice Kristin Wiig wearing it on SNL a week or so ago. (A rarity since it has to work for all of her characters during an episode). Anyway -- I'm currently sporting black on my toes so I guess I'm not immune despite the somewhat tawdry inspiration.

  12. I love wearing black polish. It think it does just the trick to spice up a night out on the town outfit. Especially if you've got some great accessories.
The only thing that sucks is when it starts to chip because it starts to have a "Sharpie" feel to it, if you know what I mean.

  13. I agree with Charmaine--gotta keep the nails short to make it work!

  15. DO! DO! DO! I love it. it's so stylish!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes/Always! I love dark nails, esp since I keep mine so short (mostly yes, to type faster) but it's such a "dont you dare mess with me" color...
Don't you always feel a bit vulnerable with pretty pink nails?
(speaking of the bach, the world vulnerable was said so many times this week, eh?)

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's a Do! I think it looks great with short nails.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I like it! It really draws attention to the hands in a visually striking way.

Personally I like to use Essie's Wicked which is a really really deep red. It looks black when there isn't light directly on it and (like the black) goes with everything.

Do you have any recommendations for a good black polish?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I love dark nail polish; however, I work in a conservative industry so I find myself rockin' it on the weekends. I did see an overcoat of a multi-color glitter over black that I loved not so long ago that I've been dying to try.

  20. I realy don´t like... for winter I prefer a dark red instead.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hmmm I'm so pale I'm not sure I could pull it off. I have to agree it looks beautiful on short nails :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. OPIs lincoln park after dark is almost black but way softer. i find black on my (borderline translucent) skin in winter is a little harsh but the super dark warm plum gets it done without making me look like a corpse.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Love dark polish! My go to color is OPI's Lincoln Park After Dar which is actually a deep purple that reads at black. I also really like a deep navy color, or a very dark almost slate gray.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I've been wearing black nail polish for over a year now. I agree with those that said to go with a darker purple. I wear OPI's Linkin Park at Midnight and it's black, but it has just this hint of purple. It looks more flattering on my nails than just plain black.

Also, like someone said, keep your nails short when you do this look! Shorter and squared nails.

    ReplyDelete
  25. DO, DO, DO it's gorgeous when done perfectly with a super shiny top coat like this one

    http://56torivington.blogspot.com/2011/08/tool-time.html

Its wonderful and makes jet black look so chic!

  26. I've always loved Black Nail Polish...with 2 rules, NO CHIPS, and TRIMMED, CLEAN NAILS! Add a good topcoat to make it super shiny and hello Sexy, Classy, Nails ;) xx -b.

love all colors dark... short nails and square... very chic!

    ReplyDelete
  28. i'm gonna be honest... i haven't stopped wearing it. it is my go-to color for the past 7 or so years. I also have really dark grays. But black goes with everything, and is really classy i think. I even wore it in a friends wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  29. nails have to be super dooper short to rock any dark or really bright colour. Mine are always either neon or really dark, but always cut and filed down as short as I can get them.

    ReplyDelete
  30. when it comes to nail polish, i typically only wear white or black or gray. those are my staples. i've never worried about it (black) looking goth for some reason...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Totally DO!! I love how it so much - as long as it is not over done.
    Much love,
    B

  32. I looooooove it!!!! Actually I was this close to getting one today but realised I didn't have any money :S

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with Michelle, as I usually wear a dark purple nail polish! It doesn't have to give the 'goth' look at all...Just try it out to see if you feel comfortable! xoxo

  34. I love New Girl. Although I am more inspired by Zooey's style, I like Julia's sharp, but edgy career look. I would definitely try black nail polish.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yep. I would. But only if I were dressed up, if that makes sense. Otherwise it looks too goth for me. And I agree with the short nails comment.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I prefer lighter color myself, but I agree it can look very chic when done right. Nails need to be short and painted NEATLY, though. Messy black nail polish is the worst.

Dark green, dark blue, and black with shimmer also give a similar effect if you're worried about wearing the blackest black.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I tried it and it just wasn't me - I'm a nurse in a high school health room so of course the students love it - they said Ms Ingram it makes you look like "Haloween"!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I honestly thought the black nail craze was over at least a year ago.

I do like wearing dark purple or blue polish during the colder seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think it works in the first picture, with that particular look. I'm not sure how versatile it would be, and it's not my personal style.

    ReplyDelete
  40. i dont know why i just cant get myself to wear it. im definitely a red or hot pink nail polish kinda girl.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Absolutely, yes! I think it all comes down to what you wear with it, but with the right outfit it can be super chic.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I usually do a really dark colors instead of black like Black Cherry Chutney or Siberian Nights by OPI. However, I do LOVE a solid black like Black Onyx.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Seriously LOVE IT. I think it looks great on short nails though. Long nails make it look Goth. I also love really dark grey.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think black nail polish has come a long way...definitely not the same stereotype it used to be! I love it!! It also I think depends on the outfit your wearing if you pull it off. If you wear mostly pink...skip the black! =P

  46. I love black nail polish. I don't wear it a lot, but I think it can be a fun and chic change from deep purple or blue (my usual colors). I also tend to keep my nails very short, which I think keeps the black polish from looking too goth.

  50. OPI's Black Onyx is a true black and Black Pearl is a dark shimmery black, almost like a gun metal, other good choices are both the Lincoln Parks as previously mentioned, Russian Navy, and Give me Moor!, all by OPI.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Love it. I use to hate it but I think it can look really classy and bring your look together.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Always! Black polish in winter is one of my very favorite looks.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love black nail polish, but as a lawyer (much like the lizzie caplan's new girl character) it is totally unacceptable at work. I laughed when I saw New Girl last week because there's no way that black polish would be big law attorney friendly, but it looked damn good on tv.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ha! I was noticing her nails too! (That show is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Who knew, right?)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I love that show, it has grown on me as has my ZD girl crush.

I work in a really causal law firm and I think that would be a no go -- I can't even imagine wearing anything other than the light pink from Essie, but she is so cute.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous2:07 PM

I will not wear black nail polish.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think it depends on what you're wearing, a shiny new black manicure can look chic with a little black dress and heels... but one chipped nail with jeans and a tee can look too messy. Definitely a high maintenance colour! I'd rather a deep, dark burgundy red.

    ReplyDelete
  58. "You Don't Know Jaques" by OPI. When I wear it, sometimes people think it's black, but it's more like a dark greige. I love it! And I've had a couple people ask me, "Is that 'You Don't Know Jaques'? That's my fave nail polish!" True story. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. why not????? if not black a very dark purple...

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think Lizzy Caplan/New Girl's wearing more of a vamp color, like Essie's Wicked (one of my favorites). And other than Lincoln Park After Dark, I recommend dark blue (I like Sally Hansen's Navy Baby or Butter London's Royal Navy Lacquer). I also randomly like a new Revlon black nail color w/ purple glitter (Facets of Fuschia). :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I say DO! I think black nail polish can be very sophisticated, but it is still very associated with the "goth" look. I wore it one time to work and my boss commented asking if I was "goth or something".

Totally ruined it for office wear, but I still wear it otherwise :)

  62. I do! Dark Purple is the key!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I used to wear it all the time, but I don't seem to wear as much these days. I tend to go for rouge noir, navy or dark grey colours. I think it can look very chic on short nails. In fact...this post has persuaded me to paint them black tonight. x

    ReplyDelete
  64. i've been wearing it on my fingers for years, but if you're timid, try it on your toes first! my long-time favorites are OPI lincoln park after dark (a deep blackish purple) and annny of the chanel blacks. i always think it looks especially cute balanced with pretty, pastel sundresses.

    ReplyDelete
  65. had to check the date on this post...i think black nail polish has been around and going strong for the last 5-10 years (maybe more). it goes away a bit during the summer, but every winter super dark polishes are back, black being no exception. i think black is a standard neutral now that you can't go wrong with as long as your nails are short and VERY well manicured (immaculate polish application is a must).

i agree that a dark purpley or red black is a little more subtle.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Definitely do! Lauren Conrad is wearing it in all photos in her "Style" book. Adds a little edge, but keeps things classy and a touch mysterious :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Do! I love how it looks (and I love new girl too)

    ReplyDelete
  68. I prefer doing a deep purple, rather than a black. Especially with pale skin! That way it doesn't flush you out the way black would.

I wore it once and a boy said to me "You're so giggly and full of energy, why would YOU wear black nail polish?!"
And I smiled back and replied, "It's not black, it's purple."

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love black nail polish! I also have dark purple and dark navy OPI shades that I like (can't remember the names). My most recent go-to color is a dark charcoal gray called Power Clutch by Essie.

Also, I am obsessed with New Girl. I think my husband is secretly hooked too.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Black nails ARE sexy and grown-up! I think as long as your outfit is classy, it will look purposefully daring.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't mind it sometimes. I painted my nails black with a little bit of style before I ran nyc marathon. When I looked down at them they made me happy :)

  72. I love black nails. I keep mine really short so I wear dark polish continuously. It makes me feel more feminine! Black is my favorite, although I have a dark dark brown, navy, charcoal grey and a little brighter royal blue.

    Black nails are a DO!

  79. I like a deep plum on short nails - very chic! I don't think I could do black but that's just me I've seen it on others and think it looks nice when it is perfectly painted.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I definitely don't like it. Something about nails that dark just looks dirty to me!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Do! I'll try any nail color at least once

    ReplyDelete
  82. i love black nail polish. i don't wear nail polish often, but when i feel bold, then i'll wear black. i think one way to class it up a bit and not make it look goth-like, is to choose a black with a bit of glitter in it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. It's always been the color I'm most comfortable with on my nails that or like the perfect primary red.

    ReplyDelete
  84. i've been wearing black and dark purple polish for a few years. definitely looks best with short nails. i like to pair it with a very feminine outfit. good contrast.

    ReplyDelete
  85. i love black! i wear a lot of bright colors, so it tones down my outfits a lot (plus, black matches with EVERYTHING!)

i live in Brazil, where everyone is nail obsessed, so there are too many colors to choose from, and a personal favorite of mine is a black that isn't too bright - it's classier than something that's shiny and costumy http://loucasporesmalte.com.br/imagens/2011/03/LPE-preto-risfosco.jpg

ps - also watch New Girl religiously! How much of a crush do you have on Nick!?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Lauren C.T.2:41 PM

I prefer chocolate brown or grey, but I do like black occasionally. You just have to keep your nails short and not wear all black clothes along with it.

(And I really like New Girl too!)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Susan2:41 PM

No. It's horrible. It either looks dirty or like you've had a car door slam on them. Ick.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Definitely do. I always put it on when I feel like being extra sassy. When I first started wearing it, it made me feel mysteriously naughty :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. it looks good if your nails aren't too long and not chipped. you can find deep burgundy or some other color that looks like black from afar, but is a little less harsh.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Totally dig black nails. And black toenails, too. Just not at the same time! ;)

Love your blog, by the way...just stumbled upon it a few days ago and I am already cooler just by reading it.Love!

  97. I sport black nail polish all the time, I love the way it looks on very short nails. Matte black is particularly lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I personally have large nails (sounds weird..I'm not a freak). I prefer a really dark purple or blue to black. Black is just a bit too much for me. I HAVE seen some awesome black MATTE nail polish. I think that would be interesting to try!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I love dark nails- with my fair skin and red hair it looks kind of wild to do all out black. I love OPI's "You don't know Jaques" as a purple/grey/brown alternative!

    ReplyDelete
  100. that´s not a new development though! but I like it a lot! Eva Mendes isn´t wearing black on the picture you posted - it´s a midnight blue by OPI!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Love it! I think it's a great way to add a little edge and sexiness to any look. Sometimes, I paint all but one nail (usually the ring fingers) black, and then add some sparkle or something to the non black nail.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Eva is wearing navy, not black. I personally prefer the navy.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'm wearing it right now! LOVE New Girl, by the way!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Love dark polishes!! Definitely a DO in my book!

    http://iloveublank.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  105. yes absolutely! I love how Julia uses a subtle dark color instead of black! from afar it looks black but close up you see a shadow of red. My choice is wicked by essie and a high gloss over it! Perfect with wool sweaters;)

    ReplyDelete
  106. It's a do! Though my favorite are the nail polishes that look black but upon closer inspection are navy blue or dark purple.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anonymous3:15 PM

OPI makes a great dark purple (can't recall the name) as well as a great dark blue (Russian Navy). Black isn't quite as gothic looking as it once did but I do prefer the dark colors over the straight black.

    ReplyDelete
  108. i'm a nail polish commitment-phobe, usually opting for pale and sheer, but sometimes you just can't resist a little russian navy or lincoln park after dark. i think russian navy looks super chic in matte also...and a matte base with shiny french tip looks pretty cool too for a party: http://kate-girl.tumblr.com/post/7759404617

    ReplyDelete
  113. Instead of wearing black nail polish, I wear a dark, dark, dark purple. It's so beautiful! I think it's more sophisticated than plain black.

    ReplyDelete
  114. It's a DO! OPI's Suzi Skies in the Pyrenees is a beautiful black polish with jelly finish so it's amazingly shiny. OPI's Road House Blues is very nice too but it's a dark blue. Essie also have plenty of dark-almost-black polish like Wicked and Little Brown Dress. Oh, and Zoya's Cynthia is an almost black too.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I used to hate the look of black nails, but it's since grown on me... A lot. All that I wear now is either a nude shade or black.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I wear dark grey, navy and purple all the time. Don't worry - my nails are always short. :)

    ReplyDelete
  117. The lady who does my nails says dark colors look great on pale skin. So especially when it's winter, I prefer dark colors just to make some contrast :)
I love black and use it quite a lot. The funny thing is that, I was using it when I was into heavy metal a lot more, now it's hip and I can even use it on the workdays at the office!

    ReplyDelete
  118. It's not for me. Why do black when you can do pretty, lovely things like corals and pinks and reds?! But I'm a girly girl. No doubt about it. Black seems like angsty goth teen. I don't mind the light greys, although they are somewhat joyless, no?

    ReplyDelete
  119. definitely a do but only if your nails are shot.

  122. My fav is Lincoln Park after Dark by OPI - not quite all the way black.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I remember a time when black nail polish was popular back in 5th grade. ;)

I think it depends on the person and their style. It can look goth or it can look elegant. It all depends.

    ReplyDelete
  124. i have been wearing black polish for years..hell i love it..they look goth only if the whole attire is themed that way..black polish has been very popular for years.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I wore black toe and nail polish to my senior prom several years ago. Everyone thought it was weird back then but I thought it looked elegant with my dress. Guess I was right.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I love black nails!! I do them all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Black (or any dark) nail polish looks great when it is neat and clean. It's when it gets all chipped, smudgy, etc that it starts looking goth. I love dark nails, but they do take some upkeep.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Black is my go-to polish. It's sleek, sophisticated, and sexy. I also love wearing it in my office -- I feel glamorous and professional at once.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Haven't worn it in a while but I love black nail polish. Gives my skin a certain glow.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I own black nail polish. It looked surprisingly good on my once short finger nails. I haven't tried it since my nails grew out, but I have worn black lace nail stickers (the Sally Hansen ones), and I love them!

    ReplyDelete
  132. When executed with the correct outfit I think it can look very elegant. More so than french nails.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I love black nail polish! I agree with everyone. It definitely has to be well kept so not to look trashy.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I've been a black nail polish lover for about four years! I think its super chic and glam!

    ReplyDelete
  135. I wear it all glossy on my toes....at 42 I don't feel grown up enough to wear it on my fingers....although maybe this post will give me the push I need to try!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I love it, but don't do it often. Only if having a big night out, but just found out a week ago, that my husband HATES it. So weird!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Julia5:44 PM

Big time DON'T! I've never liked this look. I think a very small window of women pull this off well. I agree with people bringing up the "emo teenager" look. Gag-association! And of course, the chipping is trashy.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I like dark polish that has a hidden shimmer. There are so many almost blacks that I probably wouldn't reach for black-black as my first choice! Unless I'm layering something over it, like a flaky polish :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. I think it's chic! And it does go with everything... and it's slimming... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  140. In my opinion, black nail polish is a definite YES! I hink it's both edgy and sophisticated. Its goth/emo roots are undeniable but alas, a thing of the past.

  143. I've been doing it for many years. A few years ago I'd only doing when I was going out to a bar/club, but now I can pull it off at work.
Agree with no chips and short nails. And also I have a dark purple and dark midnight blue/navy that looks just as awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  144. i adore black nail polish and wear it often!

    ReplyDelete
  145. If you keep your nails short it looks classic and less goth. Doing navy, dark greens, and chocolate browns also seem sophisticated to me.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I love going dark, but not black.

Also, you can tell that Eva Mendes either doesn't know how to cut her nails properly, or she chews them. eeks. Nails look much more elegant when they're the length in the last photo. Otherwise they look juvenile (circa 10th grade goth phase.)

    ReplyDelete
  147. on the fence on whether or not I would wear it, but I love how it looks on other people.

  148. I know it's been said, but I think it looks best on short nails, and has GOT to go as soon as there's a chip.

My favorite is very dark purple - nearly black!

    ReplyDelete
  149. I don't paint my fingernails, since I'm a painter and that always seems a little futile, but I think like with anything it depends what you pair it with. I think when the same actress played Janis in Mean Girls she wore black polish and it was a totally different look! If I WERE to wear dark polish though, I'd probably go navy or purple, something a little softer.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Black is one of my favorites! I'm wearing it right now, in fact...a shade that has just the tiniest bit of sparkle in it. I think it's so chic on short nails.

    ReplyDelete
  151. It's my go-to, along with navy or deepest brown. I agree with practically everyone else though - Short, squared off nails only! Definitely takes on that scary/goth quality if the nails are long.

    ReplyDelete
  152. love it! but, can't seem to wear it myself. feels so bold and dramatic when i try it on that i end up getting cold feet and remove them. pity!

    ReplyDelete
  153. I am a serious nail polish enthusiast. I am one of the few actually enjoys the act of painting my nails, it's relaxing to me... most of my friends find it time-consuming and frustrating!

I love super shiny black nail polish. it's often my go-to for formal events, especially in the winter. It really complements my favorite cocktail rings, and makes my nails feel as dressed up as the rest of me.

If your nervous about taking the plunge and going for black, try my favorite color of all, which I call "secretly purple" (so dark, you can't even tell it's purple). The perfect secretly purple shade: Chanel Vendetta (a total splurge that I got for Christmas, and my absolute fave)

  154. I love it! It really does look very sophisticated. I think this might be my next mani color.

  155. Love dark polish...can't go back to the days of Ballet Slippers. I love Black Cherry Chutney and Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI, so "Chique". Check out my blog for other "Chique" tips.

It's so 2005-06 to me but if you must keep it short and neat. Otherwise it'll end up looking trashy.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I like it, but agree with above anonymous, nails need to be short, otherwise it's a little witch like...

    ReplyDelete
  158. I love black nail polish! I don't think it ever goes out of style, but definitely prefer it on shorter nails!

  159. LOVE IT!!!!

but your nails have to be short!

  160. Oh for SURE. Goth is an attitude and entire style, and I don't think it gives off that vibe at all if you aren't goth.

I love my Essie black polish. I think it is so chic and elegant. I was thinking of doing a black/grey ombre. I also like to do black with one nail painted glitter with Deborah Lippman's Happy Birthday polish.

  161. For me, black nails are reserved for Halloween. But I do like dark blues and purples (as long as they have a hint of sparkle). And am I the only one who doesn't find New Girl funny?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  162. DO! i paint mine black every october and leave them til it's time for christmas red. sometimes black toenails for summer sandal season too!

I love black polish in short nails! and I always paint my toe nails black, it looks cool and makes a nice contrast with mi skin since i'm quite pale.

  164. I was just thinking about this last night! I remember short black nails coming into vogue a few years ago, but then they kind of disappeared. I wouldn't mind a return...maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  165. I'm 23 (that's grown up right??) and I wear dark nail polish all the time. Sometimes it's dark blue, black or dark purple. It looks awesome as long as the nails are short and square, and not chipped!

  166. I love black nail polish, it's highly sophisticated and goes with absolutly everything!

  168. DO!! it's one of my favorites, and i've been wearing it A LOT lately! so chic! x

  169. I like dark Olive Green. Very pretty and not too harsh.

    ReplyDelete
  170. i feel like black has been glamorous and not goth like for a solid 5 years at least now. haha. i actually just painted mine black today for the first time in a while though! i like to thank ashlee simpson circa 2004 for my love of black nail polish.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Try OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark. You won't be disappointed. It's dark purple enough to look blackish without being black polish.

    ReplyDelete
  172. definitely a do especially in the winter.

I can't watch Julia in New Girl without immediately thinking of her character from Mean Girls, Janis Ian

    ReplyDelete
  174. "The New Girl" is ridiculously funny, I love it!
I am not a fan of black nail polish though, I prefer dark blue, dark red or dark purple.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Seeing dark colours on nails is the only time I wish I had short nails! I have long, narrow fingers and long nail beds, so even when my nails are cut short I find that dark colours can just be a bit much - it ends up looking a little goth.
But I LOVE colours on my toes (it makes my feel feet more feminine) -- I usually go for reds and pinks but maybe next time I'll try a dark plum :)

    ReplyDelete
  176. Do!

But your nails should be short, otherwise it looks kinda of gothic like.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I genuinely love black nail polish, I have a really pretty once from Topshop that is glittery, so it looks more vamp than vampire

    It's so pretty: http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33057&storeId=12556&productId=1708444&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=208569&parent_categoryId=208495&pageSize=200

  178. it depends on the person, the situation... Eva Mendes looks great with everything, that's a fact... although I believe her neil polish in this photo is dark blue or purple... And her nails are to short for such a dark color. That's why I guess the last photo shows how great a black nail polish can work.
Never wore it, but I would never say never ;-)

DO! I love black nail polish because it's a nice contrast to an otherwise girly outfit:). I always keep my nails really short with a black or dark color, since I think it looks cleaner that way.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Yes! I tend to go with a super dark navy but that black looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  181. I like it now but at first it seemed only Goths wore it. Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  182. I went with a black manicure during the fall and received a ton of compliments. Since, I've finished my toes in black a few times, a little more my style. I love it

I've tried, but it never looks right on me! Dark blue looks good, though!

    ReplyDelete
  184. I've always meant to pick up a bottle of black, maybe I will now! It always reminds me of the goth phase a lot of girls went through when I was in high school but I did notice it coming back. I'll have to give it a go!

  185. I love black nails! they are very in right now in Copenhagen! I was worried that I wouldn't like it, so I bought some very inexpensive polish at H&M. I posted a photo of mine if you are interested: http://travelingmama.net/?p=11260

  186. I love black nails and wear them often. They can really compliment a dark outfit.

  187. After reading this post, I went straight to Target after work and picked up some Essie polish in Midnight Cami (a VERY dark navy) and I'm in love. I feel chic, which is hard to do as a engineer that sits in a cubical all day...lol

  190. i think it's a definite do. while i change up my fingernail polish often, i always keep my toenails black. i especially the love the look of black nails in the summer against tan skin!

  191. this is not really a new trend. i love dark nail polish. usually the color you think is black is really a dark purple - OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark is the best. super classy.

    ReplyDelete
  192. i love a black nail! mine are a great dark coppery brown right now and i love it. i'd go black if i found a good quality. :)

    ReplyDelete
  193. i love black nail polish! definite DO (on short nails). my favorites are OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark (a darker purple), my new favorite, Slick Slate by Sally Hansen (a slate gray/purple --- LOVE!), and just one of my many plain blacks. i like to think i started the trend back in my college days (at least amongst my teammates and friends).

    ReplyDelete
  194. It's a do for me and I love it with a gold sparkle on top.

    ReplyDelete
  195. Yes! Most definitely! I am a firm believer that dark colours on our nails can and do look very glamorous if your whole ensemble pulls it together. Personally it really makes me feel like a strong woman. I wore dark purple to my wedding ("Honk if you love OPI") with my lovely Pronovias dress ("Pasion") and it all was just lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  196. Black, deep purple or deep red are the only colors I wear. My favorite shade is by OPI and it is called "Lincoln Park After Dark". It is a very deep purplish black. It looks clean, neat and glamorous.

    ReplyDelete
  197. Been doing this for years... I thought it was an old trend?
