10 Valentine's Day gifts for men

The Sisters Brothers. All my guy friends are obsessed with this page-turning thriller, which is described as a Coen Brothers film in novel form. Spooky. $16.
A John Derian tray for his desk, for keys, change and reminding him how lucky he is, $66.
In this 9-minute film, Rendezvous, a man gets into a sports car and drives at terrifying speeds around Paris. He actually runs red lights, dodges pedestrians and screeches around corners, then finally stops the car and meets a beautiful woman. The 1970s film is taken from the driver's viewpoint and was shot illegally early one morning; the director Claude Lelouch was rumored to have been arrested when it first aired. Trust me, you will be the coolest girlfriend ever if you give him this gift. $29.95.
If he's a foodie, get him something crazy obscure and awesome from Gilt Taste, like beer sausages, basil-fed snails or scotch and stout truffles.
A stinky cheese class for you to take together. New York or San Francisco, $75/person.
Artwork for your bedroom, to make him laugh, or smile. $20 to $60.
I Could Eat a Horse pasta measuring tool, plus a homemade pasta feast. $15.
Silver frame with a photo of when you first started dating, so you'll both remember falling in love and getting butterflies. (You can upload a photo and get the frame here.)
Temporary tattoos to wear on your shoulder when you go out to dinner that evening. $5/each.
A sweet love note and a kiss.

P.S. 10 Valentine's Day gifts for women, and many more gifts for guys.

I desperately want to read that book!

On the one hand, I'm so glad you mentioned The Sisters' Brothers, because I love that book.

On the other hand, I wish you were more transparent with who your sponsors are...it wouldn't be hard to add "a Cup of Jo supporter/sponsor" to the links. I think it would be nice for your readers to know.

...also, brilliant artwork choice.

Great choices! I am actually working on creating a 'scrapbook' of our best pics together...cute/sexy cards are also great. When it comes to v-day I don't like investing a lot of $$$$ on gifts. I usually go with something more 'romantic', on building 'sweet memories' that last forever...On my last post, I talk about 'love'and add some perspective that made me think a lot!

Dying for the 'sex' poster. Love the idea but don't know if I have the balls to actually put it up.

These are really great ideas! The short film looks absolutely amazing. Have you seen 14 Actors Acting? I just posted about it today. So great. The artwork is also lovably hilarious!

Well, these are all simply terrific!! :) That video of speeding through Paris would have been the *perfect* gift for my wonderful 1st husband (who has since passed away). And the artwork cracks me up!! ("We had sex in this room" - hilarious! Thinking of the people I know -- and the one's who would think it's as funny as I do, and the one's who would be appalled -- which makes it even funnier.) Another great collection of goodies my dear! :)

That Universe is Forever card made me tear up immediately. Too sweet.

Great ideas, AND I can happily report that I've already purchased one for my man. The last one, the card, "You are a Fox," since my man, Mr. Fox, is indeed, a fox. ;)

Elizabeth, I know that there are sponsors who buy advertising space on both sidebars. What I would like to know, as one of Joanna's readers, is when she is referencing a product, is that part of her sponsorship? If she posts about Pinhole Press, or Gilt Taste, even in a gift round-up, is she monetizing her blog?

Given how many followers she has, I'm surprised that she hasn't done it already. Not knowing what is advertising and what isn't is a veil over everything commercial that gets posted.

I'm sorry if other's disagree, but it's the only thing that irks me about A Cup of Jo. I'm not trying to hate.

Those posters are absolutely hilarious!!!! I love them!

Mega bravo pour "Rendezvous"! Yep, as you said it is totally real, a Formula One screaming through the heart of Paris--I have NEVER seen a guy be indifferent to this short film. In the States, for a long time it was only sold at Formula One events by one dude who sold it "on the sly"!

I fear your blog may have jumped the shark. So many repeat posts lately. I know you're a mom and stuff but I mean... just post less often then. Repeating things you've already posted is annoying and a bit patronizing to your regular readers.

The Sisters Brothers is awesome. I listen to audiobooks as therapy for my anxiety (takes my mind off of worries during walks, while getting ready in the morning, etc.) and this one had me completely enthralled. If you're an audiobook fan, this narrator rocks.

oh my goodness, my bf will LOVE that flick - just ordered it! and the temporary tats idea is adorable. :)

whaaaaa? gilt taste?! why is this the first time i'm hearing about it?!

always love all these great ideas. thank youuu.

Eliana said...

These are fantastic ideas! I would just like to say as a regular reader I do not mind repeats here and there. For example, I would have never thought to give the pasta measure as a gift! Also, I think that Joanna probably posts things from her sponsors because she genuinely likes them! I think it is sad to see negativity in the comments. It makes all of the readers feel uncomfortable and hurt, not just Joanna. If you don't like the blog, just don't read it!

I think men can be so hard to buy for - the last thing my husband wants is another pair of novelty boxer shorts or an electronic gizmo. I love the key trays by the design pallet (www.thedesignpallet.com) they are made with reclaimed lumber, and are masculine without being gimmicky. They are sold through an etsy shop here http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheDesignPallet Great blog post! Thanks for all the great ideas.

By the way in case you're having thoughts like who would see my footwear under my long beautiful dress, please shove it aside. People notice even the tiny tip of the footwear peeping out of your dress, after all you are the bride, so you don't have much choice but to pay equal attention and focus on your wedding shoes.

You have many different options in the way of beach wedding gowns that you can choose to wear for your beach wedding. When choosing a beach wedding do so when the weather is at its best, not too hot or cold. This will benefit not only yourselves but your wedding guests as well by creating a relaxed and happy atmosphere where everyone is at ease.
