Travel fantasy: Haven in Paris

Have you seen the beautiful Parisian apartments from Haven in Paris? On vacation, I love staying in apartments versus hotels, since you feel like an insider (and can pretend that you live there:). You could have adventures around town, eat stinky cheeses on your balcony, have dinner at a neighborhood restaurant, then read books and curl up in your own comfy bed. Who's in?!
P.S. Look at the views from the windows, yowza!

Bonus for Cup of Jo readers: Get 20% off most Haven in Paris rentals if you visit this January or February by mentioning CUP OF JO.

I check the HIP blog frequently even though I don't have any firm plans to travel to Paris right now...the pictures are just fantastic!
yes, i love the HIP blog, too :)
Oh my goodness that bedroom with the wood beams is incredible! And I love the chevron wood floors in the first photo. I stayed in a town home in Normandy and it really does make you feel like you live there! Even going to the grocery store to stock up the kitchen was more exciting in France. :)
Yes! That is perfection, so much better than a standard hotel room :-)

This could not have come at a better time! My boyfriend and I are planning our first trip to Paris for this year. Do you think this option is more affordable for Paris than hotels? Any other Paris (or south of France) tips would be very welcome!
Love the theme for the week and your blog over all, I recommend it all the time!

no kidding, erica!! it's stunning! it's part of a penthouse apt!
Yeah, those are definitely gorgeous!
My mom went to London about a month ago and she stayed in an apartment too, she liked that a lot more than staying in hotels. She was right near all the action too. It's definitely a better option if you're a big group too. At least in London it was the same rate to pay for several hotel rooms as it was to just rent an apartment for the week.

I loved Paris when I was there last summer. I cannot wait to go back in the near future.

My husband and I love staying in apartments when we travel. We stayed in gorgeous apartments in Cape Town, Buenos Aires and Amersterdam at a fraction of the cost of a hotel!!
I'd stay at this Parisean place in a heartbeat!
Simply beautiful.
thank you, bethany! how exciting (and romantic) that you guys are going to paris. i've found that renting apartments is typically less expensive than most hotels. haven in paris has a bunch of studio and one-bedroom apartments that you might check out. i'd recommend choosing one close-ish to the river so you can walk to a bunch of sights/great little restaurants/etc. :) the marais is a fun neighborhood. yay, hope you have a wonderful time!!! oh, and budget travel has some great advice on the south of france--the loire, dordogne, etc.
have fun planning and even more fun traveling!! :)
This makes my desire to go to Paris even stronger!! Unfortunately I am a (poor) college student at the moment, but someday, I will be there!!
Ah yes please - I want to go back there so bad. I find myself dreaming about the cute little flat I stayed in while I was over in Paris. It was actually rather similar to this one. If only I could transfer my job over there - I would relocate in a heartbeat! One of my coworkers is going to Paris in a couple months so we have been dreaming and coming up with ideas for her to enjoy - I think I should really go with to be her tour guide!
Much love,
B
Ah, you're killing me! We stayed in their Ave. Carnot apartment in November, it is in the perfect location and has an unbelievable view of the Arc de Triomphe. All I want to do is go back!

Oh my goodness, so beautiful. I go to Paris often and am going to definitely look on this website. Thanks.
AAWWW WHY NOT NTIL JUNE :( I'LL BE THERE WITH MY BF :D FIRST TIME FOR MEE !!! :D
Funny! We stayed in the apartment from that first picture 2 years ago.
I can vouch that it is as nice as it looks!
Fortunately, we were traveling with a large group to split the costs :)
An apartment was a great way to enjoy the city life!
Great blog. The pics make me want to go to Paris too.
LOVE their apartments... have yet to stay in one... but they are GORGEOUS!!!
I'm going to London for 2 weeks this summer for work and this website is perfect! If the cost is about the same, I'd much rather they put me up in an apt than a hotel! Thanks for this!
those views are incredible, and i love the idea of staying in an apartment versus a hotel.
We just booked with Haven in Paris for our trip in March. I can't wait to get there!
Gorgeous! I like the idea of staying in an apartment. It sounds like more homey than a hotel!

My husband and I rented from Haven In Paris for our honeymoon in 2009. It was so wonderful and I want to go back with our babies! Maybe to a 2-bedroom next time :)
oooh I used to have my very own view of the Eiffel tower when I lived in Paris for a couple of years. I miss it so much! Lovely pics! :)
I will definitely use this site when I travel to Paris!

Man I would love to go there, I wish I could live there!
I also really prefer apartment, since you have much more freedom.
I am in. I really think that is the best way to travel. You live like a local. I love that.
Seriously, my husband and I are travelling on march and we discovered it´s so much affordable to rent an apartment for the whole week than staying in a hotel. Besides, we are excited to buy groceries at charming little markets in order tocook our own dinners in Paris!

Wow!! So beautiful. Good pictures to save for inspiration : )
I love the shots of the buildings with the greenery all around.

I'm in love with the buildings and the balcony views! :)

THIS IS WONDERFUL! We're actually planning a trip for my 35th bday next month and I think this might work perfectly!
Ok, seriously that is incredibly expensive still (mind you, I'm still a student, but sometimes I'm baffled by the amounts people pay for just a sandwich. I know, i sound like my mother). Anyway I'd reccommend homelidays as well; they have appartments all over the world, and France is by far the one with the most houses, for every price range :)
We rented an apartment in Paris for a week and it was wonderful! Absolutely prefer that over staying in a hotel. Ok, a conceriege would have been nice from time to time, but we figured it out. Can't remember who we rented from, but ours was a simple studio flat and it was lovely. Although if you can swing it, going posh would be nice, too :)
Bonjour! Merci for the gorgeous post Joanna. And thanks to everyone for your compliments and kind words. It is so wonderful to hear about your experiences with Haven in Paris. I look forward to reading about more of your trips in our apartments. For those of you who have booked but not yet arrived, we look forward to helping you have the best vacation ever and to sharing Paris with you. Until then . . . a bientot. -Erica

I think I need to live in this apartment.. so nice!
Looks gorgeous. Sponsored post?
I'm totally in. My family and I stayed in a great bed and breakfast on a farm in Normandy years ago and it was a much more memorable experience for me. They had a great garden in the back of their farmhouse and a small little breakfast area where we ate every morning. It felt like we were actually living there instead of just visiting.
these pictures are gorgeous!!

like the idea.."pretend you live there"..I buy that ;)..
My husband and I stayed in a little apartment in Paris for our honeymoon- it was simply amazing (although not as nice as the pictures your featured!)! Your'e right - you really felt like an insider and it's so much more "homey" than a hotel!
Apartment stays on hols are fantastic. Means you can blend in with the locals! :)
Apartment instead of hotel - why didn't I think of that? What a wonderful idea!

What a great and timely post! We are planning our honeymoon to Paris in April and we will definitely check this out! Thank you!
i had a short and rainy layover in paris in december. these bright, sunshine-y photos are making me want to go back in the summer.
As if I wasn't already addicted at looking at apartments in Paris, you go add to that! My husband and I are planning a trip to Paris to celebrate our five year wedding anniversary this fall. We've been told to look to rent an apartment in the 6th arrondissement - do you agree with that advice? Can't wait!
the pic of the balcony with the view 3rd pic from bottom] is my friend's place on the Rue de Bac. It does have a view of the Eiffel Tower. She lives in it 6 months /year and rents the other part of the year. Not a bad life..no?
OMG - going to Paris this year so thank you - any other tips on must see do experience there Jo? Also - a friend is leaving her babies and heading to NYC for a fortnight to celebrate turning 40. What should be on her bucket list?!!!!!!
Wow, those are beautiful inside and out! The views are incredible...I wish i had time to go on holidays... boo
A friend and I are going to be in Paris for 10 days at the end of February! I'm in the process of figuring out accomidation, thanks for the tip!! I've also checked out all of your other posts on Paris, they're wonderful!
Gorgeous!
My dream destination. I will keep haven in paris in my bookmarks.
I'm dramatically sighing over the website now!!! I heart you Paris!!!
Beautiful - I grew up in Paris but haven't been back for over 8 years.
However we're planning on going for our first wedding anniversary in May. Any thoughts/ideas of things to do for those that have done the touristy things many times before?
Kx
This pictures are amazing--I am actually having a hard time breathing I want to go so badly!
oh wow these pictures make my heart ache for paris...i can't wait to go back and stay at one of these fabulous places!
Just wonderful and absolutely stunning. Thanks for making a girl dream!
eek makes me miss paris! wish i could drop everything and fly over right now!!
i love that you posted about this. for the paris portion of my honeymoon, we stayed in an apartment with a great view of the city. it was lovely and private, and i truly felt i could live like a local. every morning we went to an open air market a block down the road and got fresh bread and other groceries to make our own meals at the apartment. so special and intimate. i highly recommend this!

Wow! The views are really awesome! :)
I love this! great photos!

Wow, those are gorgeous views! I just booked a trip to Israel with a little two day stopover in Paris on the way home to Canada, just for fun! Can't wait to see a small part of this gorgeous city!
also, I saw this today and thought of you and your readers http://blog.letsfrolictogether.com/dailyfrolic/2012/01/10/tending-the-succulent-garden-a-morning-of-propagating-and-potting/
I was just looking at these last week. Nick and I are taking our honeymoon late and going to Paris in May. I'm excited to get a little apartment with a studio so I can go to the market and make little meals in. My favorite part of traveling is to pretend you actually live there. This may be dangerous in Paris.
I love staying in apartments when traveling, especially with kids. To celebrate my mom's birthday, 7 of us stayed at Avenue Carnot, which has great views of the Arc and the Eiffel tower. Shopping daily for those yummy baguettes was a treat! I would go back in a minute!!
those places are BEAUTIFUL. living like locals truly is the only way to go in travel... it makes the experience so much more meaningful
Oh, it's so beautiful! I wish I could go for a visit!
That sounds so lovely!!
I totally want to go to Paris! You always make me want to go when you talk about it. I really need a passport, so I can go.
Oh my goodness take me to Paris NOW!
Thanks for the tip Joanna :)

Come on! I could barely look at all the pictures it was just too much for me to take at once. Absolutely stunning!
Hey Joanna,
I'm assuming this is a sponsored post due to the discount available at the bottom. (That said, these apartments are gorgeous!)
Like someone commented on Friday's post, I think it would be great if you could make some sort of disclaimer/statement about how sponsors affect your posts.
Wow, this seems incredible!

Wow.. I have no words *_*
Oh my goodness! That bedroom is to die for! And then the discount...so tempting. I was just thinking last night that I miss Paris. It would be perfect for a Valentine's trip.
The concept of apartment renting in Paris is perfect, however, a word of caution to anyone looking to rent from any apartment management companies in Paris like Haven In Paris--a somewhat new law & division created specifically by the Mairie de Paris (Paris City Hall) clearly states these type of apartment rentals are ILLEGAL if they have not been zoned as commercial establishments and the division created is actively searching out the violators and immediately evicting any renting tenants. Renters are not in any way penalized, other then their immediate eviction, it's the owners who receive the monetary & legal penalties. Already knowing two such visiting guests who had to suddenly find hotel accommodations in the middle of their stays, it is a costly and miserable interruption to your Paris visit. As most of the apartment rental companies are not publicizing the risk, just be aware that it could and IS happening. The reason for the law and focus on these types of apartments is because too many Americans (& other foreigners) with holiday apartments are making money on holiday rentals but not paying appropriate taxes to France on this income. So it is justified in its creation. Just be careful who you rent from and know that the more publicized companies are also more likely to be found by the internet searchers on staff at this division.
Be as informed as you would be in your hotel searches.
oh my gosh, that tiny woodbeam bedroom is gorgeous!! Such a cozy little nook. Not to mention the views…
ohhh, i miss Paris thanks for sharing that xx
Im checking it out NOW
I love.

Fantastic Post Joanna. The Pictures are amazing and stimulated me to travel to Paris. Its so good and interesting to have a look at these pictures. Love your post truly. One thing I learned before I became a bestselling author and long before Inc Magazine voted my company as one of the fastest growing companies is that outing is really important for refreshment and break from work and it should be in Place like Paris.
I can't even believe how beautiful this place is!! What would we do without you Joanna??!!
Beautiful but way too expensive :(
Oops, I wasn't finished my comment. We've stayed in much cheaper (and very good!) hotels in Europe so these flats aren't really cheaper if you're travelling as a couple.
Great Gatsby! That bedroom is more insane than a ball pit of puppies and children! Super keen.

Stunning! That balcony is a dream (and perfect for stinky cheese eating). Thanks for sharing!
My dad has decided to celebrate his 60th birthday by renting an apartment in Paris for the month of October. My sister and I will join him for a week. Can anyone recommend a great apartment (or reliable rental site) for him to peruse? Haven in Paris is fantastic but may be slightly out of his price range. He is single and slightly tech-slow, so I would be so grateful for any tips that might help him out. Thank you so much in advance!

Definitely agree with this!
i know and have dreamt about HIP for years now. we attempted to find an apt for our first trip to paris through them but unfortch their more 'affordable' properties were all booked.
IF i were traveling to paris this jan or feb, i would take full advantage of this offer.
then again, i'm not, so i will just have to continue to dream.
Perfect timing! We're actually planning a trip to Paris in March right now. These sure are beautiful, but quite expensive. I've found the apartments on airbnb.com to often be just as beautiful and a lot cheaper. The comment about the change in Paris law for renters, as posted by Anonymous, is a bit worrisome though...
We used HiP last May for our first stay in Paris. We chose the Cite Pilleux studio (we're on a budget, y'all!) and it was way beyond our expectations! Our greeter was awesome, the location was perfect and even the neighbors were tops (in France!). I highly recommend the HiP team... they're the jam.
I am a massive fan of non hotel getaways. In fact the only time I stay in hotels are when I'm travelling in the UK.... Currently I am looking for somewhere in St Ives to stay with my dog for a week or so at the end of September just as a get away from work and things :)
Amazing pictures!

Lovely Idea
Thank you for posting this! My new hubby and I are booking a trip to Paris (my first time there) in April, and we will look into HIP. We went to Australia for our honeymoon, and it turned into "Jen and Kit's Big Adventure" rather than a relaxing honeymoon. So, we are going to have a honeymoon part deux!
that comfy bed you see there in that picture has my anthropologie quilt on it! (its from about 7 or 8 years ago!)Its the softest blanket in the whole world by the way!
now that's what I'm talking about! This is the way to travel!!
Your suggestions make me feel good feelings, harmony of colors seems to me a perfect combination, I blog a while and I have many ideas to share with my friends, jobs, especially with my friends in the decoration and architecture.
i'm an avid fan of this site. .i really learned a lot. .thank you. .try to watch movies online for free here. . .
This is so helpful! My friend & I are visiting Paris for the first time this May and I have my Research Girl hat on, trying to learn all I can about this beautiful city (its quirks & delights)!
I hadn't visited Haven in Paris before, so thanks for sharing the info. We are going to rent an apartment so it's another great resource! We were thinking of staying in the Marais district, but I found a sweet little studio penthouse in Montmarte through HiP that I have fallen in love with.
I realize I'm running on here, but I'm just so tres excited! :)
I think that is the best way to travel. You live like a local. I am liking that.

Joanna-I love your blog! Haven in Paris apartments are definitely some of the best places to stay in Paris as opposed to a hotel. I also love their blog.
I actually work with them and help their clients experience the Champagne region of France.
My company is called Tasty Side To Life Tours and I help people experience Champagne through 1 day small champagne producer tasting trips where people are able to drink amazing bubbly with various passionate small producers (as well as at big houses like Moet et Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, etc) eat a Michelin star lunch, see inside a regional Michelin star kitchen while hanging a bit with the chef, visit an escargot farm and drink champagne in an actual champagne tree house. I basically try to create a “Napa-like” small producer tasting experience in France which is quite hard to do without French language skills or insider knowledge.
Here is a link which Hip Paris has on their site about my business http://hipparis.com/tag/a-tasty-side-of-life/ and under their “service” “classes and tours” site-http://haveninparis.com/luxe.php - c9

Hi, probably our entry may be off topic but anyways, I have been surfing around your blog and it looks
very professional. It’s obvious you know your topic and you appear fervent about it. I’m developing a
fresh blog plus I’m struggling to make it look good, as well as offer the best quality content. I have
learned much at your web site and also I anticipate alot more articles and will be coming back soon.
Thanks you.
