Paintings vs photographs

The Remake project challenged art students to remake famous works of art, using photography. Aren't they compelling?
(I found this remake of "The Artist's Mother" by Whistler to be really touching.)

  5. i love the first one for the attention to detail (and it is as breathtakingly beautiful as the original painting) but i actually prefer the more creative takes and modern twists compared to the ones that just have people who look the same

  11. With the exception of the Whistler one at the end (that photo is very touching), I'm more a fan of the originals and don't think they need to be reinterpreted.

  14. This is a pretty neat project! I think my favorites are the first and last one because they really captured the essence of the original. I know there's a project somewhere of an artist that did paintings that look just like photographs. I'll try to find a link to share with you because that one was pretty amazing too!

  23. I have got to say I did this for a school project even before finding this trend online. I use two Picasso paintings from his blue period. This has inspired me to post them later on, and maybe create some more. :)

I loved the Mondrian one by the way. Very clever!
