Paintings vs photographs

The Remake project challenged art students to remake famous works of art, using photography. Aren't they compelling?

(I found this remake of "The Artist's Mother" by Whistler to be really touching.)

Wow, so cool! I LOVE all your cool internet finds!
Oh my goodness, they are brilliant. The first pair is my favourite. Stunning and so spot on:) Happy New Year, Joanna. xo
LOVE these!
This is really amazing.
This is such a neat project! That first one is beautiful both ways. Love it!
i love the first one for the attention to detail (and it is as breathtakingly beautiful as the original painting) but i actually prefer the more creative takes and modern twists compared to the ones that just have people who look the same
These are amazing...I LOVED the Starry Night one! :)
Brilliant!!

Love these!
And the top one is amazing! They did a really good re-creation.
wow, i love the suitcase one. what creativity.
I love the first and last photos.
With the exception of the Whistler one at the end (that photo is very touching), I'm more a fan of the originals and don't think they need to be reinterpreted.
this has got to be one the most creative thing ever!
that first one is a knockout.
This is a pretty neat project! I think my favorites are the first and last one because they really captured the essence of the original. I know there's a project somewhere of an artist that did paintings that look just like photographs. I'll try to find a link to share with you because that one was pretty amazing too!
This is so ingenious. I would love to have both the painting & the photograph hung in my house! What a cool challenge.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
this is such a cool idea. it reminds me of an ad campaign when i lived in florence. it was the same idea - photographic interpretations of the classic floretine/italian artworks but with designer clothes. loved it!
Wow, this is so incredible!

THAT'S SO COOL!!
I love seeing creative spins on such classic images, like the girl sitting at McDonald's. So clever.
Mondrian Suitcase FTW!
LOVE!

these are really something! Thanks for sharing!
I have got to say I did this for a school project even before finding this trend online. I use two Picasso paintings from his blue period. This has inspired me to post them later on, and maybe create some more. :)
I loved the Mondrian one by the way. Very clever!
this is so cool! I like how some were exact and some were modernized.

That is a very neat project! And IA can't imagine the all the details and preparation that had be done for the photos to work.

i love it. very cool approach!
Wow. This is really neat. I like both, can't pick a favorite.

This is really cool! I love when you do links to art stuff.
On an unrelated note- I was wondering if you have been having problems posting links to blogger on facebook. I have been suddenly having trouble (and by that I mean it won't do it) and so I looked up some other bloggers I read on fb to see if they post links. I noticed you have in the past... have you had problems lately?
What a wonderful project! Thank you for sharing it.

This is such a beautiful project. I agree with you about "The Artist's Mother;" it is really touching. The composition is quite different, but the tone is so similar; it's sad and beautiful.
