Are you a lipstick or chapstick girl? I'm usually a fan of red lipstick, but Alex shies away from kissing me when I'm wearing it because he doesn't want to wear it, too.So! My friend Leigh told me about Rosebud Salve, which is soft, supple and slightly rose-scented. It will keep your lips moisturized and rose-tinted all winter. I brought some with us while traveling this holiday, and the crazy bonus is that you can also use it for dry skin in the winter, sunburns in the summer and diaper rash! Have you ever tried it?

it's the best ! as far as lip balm goes. i haven't tried it for diaper rash ... yet !
ReplyDeleteI've been using it since I was a wee one (I am old now:). You can only imagine how my mother (who has used it since the 50s) finds the popularity hilarious. But she is pleased, too. Kinda of like when Kiehl's became more than the pharmacy brand. I've saved the little tins since I was a kid, too. (And the large ones)
ReplyDeletei am an EVERY KIND of lip accoutrements possible kind of girl! I have maybe 3 red lipsticks and rosebud salve in my bag right now - and many more! I may have a problem =)
ReplyDeletelove it! this is the only lip product on use, great for a little bit of color and perfect for winter hands. i also like that it is not as goopy (scientific term) as lipgloss, so when my hair goes flying across my face, this doesn't go with it!
ReplyDeleteThis salve looks really good, and I love that it smells like roses!
ReplyDeletethat is awesome, susan!! the lip salve was originally made in the 1895s -- more than 100 years ago. crazy!! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI really like the vanilla mint Chapstick but its hard to find. Right now I LOVE Korres lip butter. Its amazing and you can also get it tinted. Smells good too :)
ReplyDeleteThe scent is THE BEST.
ReplyDeleteI use this, but I wasn't aware it had any color in it. Are there different versions?
ReplyDeleteI was a Carmex girl forever, but I wanted something new that would add some color, and, let's face it, look prettier when I took it out of my purse. I'd read about beauty editors' love of Rosebud Salve for years so I tried it and I'm in love! It gives lips a natural glow, keeps them moisturized forever and comes in an oh-so-pretty tin. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you posted about that salve. I've been looking for something with a little color that would help keep my cracked, Illinois winter lips moisturized.. And that tin! its so uniquely vintage looking
ReplyDeleteThey have some other varieties and all are amazing. My lips need as much help as they can get in the winter months!
ReplyDeletei'm OBSESSED with the pink tinted vaseline tins you can only get in london. it gives a better colour than rosebud, and i find it more moisturizing, too!
ReplyDeleteI love chapstick! My lips get so chapped in the winter, so i usually wear that. :)
ReplyDeleteThis stuff is the BEST! Love, love, love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm addicted to rosebud salve! The only thing is that I now buy it in a tube...my canister opened in my purse one time and my keys got stuck in it...so messy!
ReplyDeleteI used to use this too, since it's been around so long, (plus I was drawn by the pretty packaging) but it's actually made from petroleum, a bi-product of oil. Not good! Especially since it's on your lips :(
ReplyDeleteLOVE this stuff! I actually have the mint & rosebud one, which I love too. It's really perfect: glossy but not too shiny, soft but not sticky, scented but not artificially perfumed.
ReplyDeleteI've worn lipgloss all my life, but when I turned 27 I thought maybe I was old enough to try lipstick. :) I have some lip tints from The Body Shop that I really like - they're not quite as opaque as lipstick, but give me more colour than even the rosebud salve. It's a good transition for me.
I keep seeing this around, been dying to try it! Can't wait to get some. I hope it's a light tint though- my lips are already super red naturally and I hate it!
ReplyDeleteI don't really think this gives me any sort of tint, but I love how glossy and soft it makes my lip. I get really bad cracked cuticles and hangnails, but if I rub this into my nails it really helps heal/ prevent them. It also heals dry spots that even lotion won't work on! If you cant tell I love this salve!
ReplyDeleteI love my minted rose Rosebud Salve for shininess, but nothing conditions for me in the winter like Korres lip butter. I have seriously dry lips!
ReplyDeleteI love Rosebud salve, the minted rose is my fave variety, it smells so good!
ReplyDeletehttp://chicgeekery.blogspot.com/
oh red lipstick!!!... my boyfriend hates when i wear it for the same reason. however nothing is better then getting home from a night out and attacking him with red kisses... ps. rosebud is great for your cuticles as well... the same brand also makes different scents...
ReplyDeleteI have been using Rosebud Salve since high school and I adore it! It has become a mandatory part of my morning regimen and in the cold months, I swipe it on before bed and my lips don't dry out. It lasts forever and after I'm done, I use the cute tins to hold pills or safety pins or other little treasures. I have found that you either love it or you hate it--a lot of my friends think it smells like a grandma, but I think it smells like heaven! Then again, is there much of a difference between grandmothers and heaven? I think not. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteIf you're ever visiting your family in England, the pharmacies there carry several different salve brands and they are SO cheap (like 1 GBP!) - so load up when you visit next! I've found them to be all very similar to the rosebud kind.
XO
it's my favorite! Except I buy it in Blueberry. I get so many complements about the scent!
ReplyDeleteI use this exact brand. Sometimes a bit *too* glossy for my taste. With chapstick it has a more moisturizing effect. Salve seems to dry out more quickly. However, it's also good for dry knuckles and other dry spots on your skin! And the bonus is your face will look bright and glowy.
ReplyDeletei love this stuff & i always get tons of compliments on it
ReplyDeleteI impulse bought Kiehl's Lip Gloss just this past weekend. Up until then I usually just wore vaseline. This is a huge improvement and very gentle on the skin (I have the worst chapped lips, sensitive skin...) The Kiehl's gloss makes my lips feel moisturized and gives a little color. I higly recommend it!
ReplyDeleteRosebud salve user for 20+ years. My only beauty mainstay!
ReplyDeleteIt's the best! I've used it forever and I have ones in my bathroom, make-up bag, purse, office, and car. I use it to give my cheeks and/or eyes a sexy sheen for special nights out, too :)
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with the Rosebud salve..it's the best for hydration and keeps my lips, cuticles and any other dry skin nice and soft!
ReplyDeleteI SWEAR by this stuff! My mom gave me some as a stocking stuffer years ago, and I've been obsessed with it ever since. I even rub it into my cuticles when they get dry and cracked in the winter. It works like a charm!
ReplyDeleteI discovered this in college 10 years ago and haven't looked back since, love it on my lips, cuticles, and now, in a pinch, for my daughter!
ReplyDeleteJoanna, have you ever tried the long-lasting lipsticks? I'm a big fan of Cover Girl's and Revlon's. You can kiss Alex all you want, and it won't come off!
ReplyDeleteI love Rosebud salve but I love Terry Baume De Rose even more, Its an expensive treat but having tried every lip treatment I have ever set eyes on, this is by far the best, In my humble opinion!
ReplyDeleteYES! I keep this stashed in my desk at work and use it every day- as a lip balm, as diaper rash isn't something that ails me. Happy balming!
ReplyDeletewww.bundtsofsteel.blogspot.com
The only reason I've shied away from the salve is that you have to apply it with your finger. I hate getting my finger sticky with lip stuff.
ReplyDeleteit's on my nightstand! :)
ReplyDeleteI love rose salve! I keep a tin with me everywhere....my purse, laptop case, nightstand, you name it! Bath and Body Works actually makes a really great affordable lip salve, that not only comes in rose, but also green apple!
ReplyDeleteAbby
http://classickitsch.blogspot.com/
LOVE this stuff! My grandmother used to us it. It also comes in a tube formula as well but there is just something so cute / vintage about the tin.
ReplyDeleteYes! It's the best, my aunt recommended it and I used it on my girls when they were babies for chapped skin. Great product :)
ReplyDeletelip slave all the way-vaseline has one that is similar called rosy lips-and has rose and almond oil in it-i'm loving it at the moment
ReplyDeleteI love rose salve, but I'm out right now- have to get more! Bath and Body Works has a very similar product but the tin isn't as pretty.
ReplyDeleteI've been using it for years! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAh, this stuff is great in so many ways and it makes me happy that so many here already use it. I like the strawberry scented kind, it comes in a gold tin with a berry on it. Love it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a lover of the Rosebud salve, but I recently found this hydratint by Laura Mercier that's perfect for hydrating and adding a nice pop of color: http://www.lauramercier.com/store/shop/Lip-Stains-%26-HydraTint_HydraTint-SPF-15_prod190024
ReplyDeleteIt's my new fave!
i am and always have been a chapstick girl (;
ReplyDeleteI've been using rosebud salve for years and it really is great! The light tinting is perfect if you don't want to go all-out on color.
ReplyDeleteI'll see if I can get hold of this then!! Seems like everyone is loving it!!
ReplyDeleteI love that brand, but truly nothing can take the place of my Burts Bees.
ReplyDeleteI loved the smell and the vintage tin but found it didn't do the job properly in Winter. The best one by miles is Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream. In-freakin-credible.

ha i just bought this last week. great stuff.
ReplyDeleteI have used this, but really, it's rose-scented Vaseline (I wasn't aware of any color either?). I prefer regular Aquaphor or Fresh Sugar tinted lipbalms.
ReplyDeleteI wear this stuff and it is a god-send!
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite stuff...do you know it comes in a tube too, and also they have another flavor, i think strawberry...but i haven't tried it...i love the good old fashioned tin! So wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI read, in Vogue I think, that SJP uses this before bed every night! I like it, but I prefer Fresh's Sugar lip treatment.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of bold lipsticks, but they're not always practical. I haven't found a really good lip balm yet. I'll have to give this one a try!
ReplyDeletei am a chaptick girl. i mostly use vaseline intensive care, aloe vera currently. i love it, it's very shiny too.
ReplyDeleteIt is the greatest lip balm. A must in the cold and dry climate I live in. Also when you have extra on your fingers rub it into your cuticles.
ReplyDeleteI've used Rose's for a LONG time and I love it (sometimes I rub it on my cheeks!). I grow roses at my house and clip the rose hips to make my own version of lip salve (I use this recipe from an eBook I helped author). Super easy to make and an awesome Vitamin C kick to boot (for healthy skin)!
ReplyDeleteI've been addicted to this stuff for years. It is the BEST for dry cuticles!
ReplyDeletethat's some good stuff. i use to wear chapstick all the time, but now that i'm a caribbean girl theres no need for it. my lips never chap here :)
ReplyDeletei have used rose's for about 10 years now - since i was in high school! it lasts forever and smells so sweet. & if you don't like the tin, anthropologie has it in a tube.
ReplyDeleteI live by this stuff, but I prefer the minted rosebud version. Such great stuff!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI have sworn by this stuff for years! I especially love the mint one, it gives more off a red tint and is tingly. The squeeze tube variety is also great for when you don't want to have to dig your hands in something, aka while riding the subway.
ReplyDeletePlain ole chapstick gal, here. But this looks like a fabulous alternative because of therosy hue... to give me some color and life on the lips!
ReplyDeleteChristina
http://becauseofmadalene.blogspot.com/
made with petroleum. bad for lips. bad for environment. too bad since it is such a pretty product.
ReplyDeleteI am a lip balm addict, but have always preferred a red lip. My husband never liked lipstick for the same reasons your husband doesn't like it. Luckily, I found that Armani's lipstick doesn't dry my lips and stays put very well. My favorite color is #8 and it doesn't come off when I smooch my husband or my little boy. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's my absolute favorite and about all I wear. They now make it in a tube, too, which is fabulous since I ruined many a tin in a hot purse in the summer.
ReplyDeleteIt's the packaging that does it for me! So fun to put lip gloss on when it comes in a cute little tin!:)
ReplyDeleteI swear by Rosebud Salve! It's my only must-have. I keep one in my bathroom cabinet, one in my purse, one at my desk, etc.
ReplyDeleteTip: I buy mine at Anthropologie, where it is $6, but it is $8 at Urban. You'd think it would be the other way around!
Revlon's Just Bitten lip stain is totally makeout proof! I wear it almost every day
ReplyDeleteI tried this last year and fell in love right away... of course it was my friend's tin I've had so many other chapsticks in my life that I have never bought it... until now! I just got it and I am obsessed!
ReplyDeleteI originally bought rose bud salve because of a very dry and sore nose after a long cold, but now I use it for everything. It works wonders!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love the Rosebud salve. I have a tin by the bed and in my purse. My girls are always stealing mine and taking them to school where it is much chillier then sunny SoCal. I also love Fresh Sugar lip treatment in Crimson. The best lip treatment I have found.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! I'd heard about it from so many people who swear by it, and now I do too.
ReplyDeleteobsessed! but careful... that shit melts fast!(#californiaproblems)
ReplyDeleteThis (as well as the not-so pretty palmers coco butter swivel stick, which actually looks like a glue stick) are my go to beauty products. They are both like a dream!
ReplyDeleteI have, and I LOVE it! It's moisturizing without being greasy, which is hard to come by!
ReplyDeleteI have used it for a while, but while it does soften rough lips, I have found it doesn't do much more than Vaseline does (although the scent is a plus!). I switched to Burt's Bees tinted lip balm (the one in the chocolate brown packaging) and Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment. Nothing beats the Sugar Lip Treatment, but while I'm a bit down on money, I find Burt's Bees to be an excellent option!
ReplyDeletei LOVE this stuff! i use it all the time, im addicted!
ReplyDeleteI've been using Smith's Minted Rose lip balm for years. It's always in my purse -- try it! Same tin, same color -- but it's so refreshing.
ReplyDeleteAlso, for a all-natural salve with amazing lip tinting capabilities, I use 100% Pure's Fruit Pigmented Lip Butter. I can't suggest it enough.
i just bought some at anthro last week after hearing so much about it. not too crazy about the petrolatum base, but it works wonders to winterize me hands + it smells so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove this salve to death. The Rosebud Salve with Menthol and Eucalyptus is the perfect thing to put on a chapped nose and face after a cold as well!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.drugstore.com/rosebud-perfume-co-smiths-menthol-and-eucalyptus-balm/qxp92193
I LOVE how it looks, but have never had much luck with it for my lips! Dry skin, yes.
ReplyDeleteI always come back to Burt's Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm (also nicely rosy). Now if only it was in a pretty little tin...
a total cult classic! <3
ReplyDeletehttp://ajalake.blogspot.com/
I, too, had read good things and then saw it in line at Urban Outfitters and read about using it for more than just lips and was SOLD. I love using it. Feels so vintage and modern all at once. My toddler puckers up for some rubbed on her lips, too.
ReplyDeleteI haven't! But it looks amazing! I've got a similar one that you can use on elbows and eyelashes too (weird combo, but handy none the less!).
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about boys avoiding the red lip look! Not always a man's best look hehe!
Happy New Year!
Girl about Town XxX
i'm a chapstick kinda girl! rosebud salve is my fav, leaves my lips soft, adding just enough shine without making my lips look like i just ate fried chicken ;) i also can not resist anything that comes in tin packaging! more reason to love!
ReplyDeleteI'm like Sara, anything I can put on my lips I do. I will give any color a go, but I find the more mauve/brownish colors work best on me. I do tend to go to the lipsticks over the chapsticks if given the choice though. My everyday go-to that I cannot live without is MAC's satin lipstick in Twig! I can't live without it!!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Jamie

I've tried it before for kind of special way love it lip salve.

An Carol,
My roommate in college had this and we loved using it, but it was always so hard to open the tin!
ReplyDeleteit also lasts forever! my husband has a tin he has been carrying around for years. it's all beat-up and dented, the tin, and he will soon finally run out of the salve.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't imagine surviving a Wisconsin winter without it!
ReplyDeleteI like Rosebud but prefer not having to put my fingers in something that goes on my mouth a lot. A bit of a germaphobe I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Rosebud Salve. Usually, I just put on a bit of Burt's Bees though. They have a few different colors of tinted lip balms (not the ones that shimmer) and I like how I can get slightly red lips without doing the whole lipstick thing.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time, I used Rosebud Salve as lotion for my legs while in a cab.
ReplyDeleteDesperate times!
Yes! I wear this everyday! And it worked so well on my poor hands when I was working in a theatre doing scenic construction and had to use really harsh, gritty soap to get the paint off me!
ReplyDeletekiehl's #1 lipbalm is truly the best for really moisturizing and giving subtle shine. long lasting to boot.
ReplyDeleterosebud smells and tastes a bit soapy to me?
Yes! I've been using it for years, that tin lasts forever (probably should throw it out). They also came out with a squeezable version, which I'm wearing now. Keep it at my desk for lips and cuticles, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm ALWAYS looking for the perfect lip balm -- I tend to be pretty sensitive to certain ingredients and get hives if I'm not careful, but this sounds heavenly. Thanks for the tip, Joanna and Leigh!
ReplyDeletei love this! you can use it on lips, eyelids for a bit of shine, dry elbows, chapped cheeks or nose.
ReplyDeletepretty packaging and smells lovely!
My sister loves this stuff. She uses it on her dry cuticles in the winter.
ReplyDeleteRosebud is my favorite for sure! The last tin I bought lasted me a few years since I liked putting it on once a day, before bed. I just cracked open a brand new one this week!
ReplyDeleteNeat! I'm definitely a fan of red lipstick but not a fan of how it dries out my lips. This product seems like the perfect fix for that problem!
ReplyDeleteI do use this. It works wonders.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thegirlieblog.com
Joanna, I know there is a cult following for Smith's Rosebud Salve but have you ever tried C.O. Bigelow's Rose Salve? You can purchase it for about $6 at Bath & Body Works and I think it's even better than Smith's. The scent is more like a fresh rose, less stuffy and medicinal. It also comes in an adorable pink tin.
ReplyDeleteNot only do I use it every day and have strategically placed it throughout my house and office, I now give it out as a gift to everyone I know. They all get hooked. It is the best.
ReplyDeleteYup Yup, it's my go-to lip conditioner..always in my purse.
ReplyDeleteLove this stuff. It's a great beauty "secret"!
ReplyDeleteMy go-too product is Julie Hewett's Camellia Balm. It can also be used on hands, cuticles, etc. And comes in a tinted shade, too (though i use clear).
ReplyDeleteI am a lip balm-aholic! I also don't tend to wear lipstick since my husband has the same, no kiss policy when I'm wearing it. I'm obsessed with Blistex Herbal Answer. It's smooth and creamy, the only bad thing is that it's not readily available in stores, or at least the ones I'm near. I'm so crazy about it I bought 10 tubes on Drugstore.com, for fear they might be discontinuing it.
ReplyDeleteI'm very surprised you haven't heard of this before! It's amazing
ReplyDeleteI don't know about putting red lip balm on a baby's rear, but I'm a total chapstick fiend. Carmex cherry stick is the best
ReplyDeleteI have actually used this lip salve for years and love it. The slight hint of color is perfect for cold winter nights.
ReplyDeleteXX Hilary
yes!!! Love this!
ReplyDeletehanlonfamily2.blogspot.com
Love it! I have one in each purse and its the only stuff I actually use until its gone (instead of losing it!) I use it on dry elbows as well. Call me weird. ;)
ReplyDeleteI use C.O. Bigelow's brand of Rose Salve found in Bath&Body Works. I thinks it's relatively the same product and I love it! They both come in the cutest little tin :)
ReplyDeleteI used to use Rose Bud until I got smart about ingredients. The Rose Bud Salves FIRST ingredient is Petroleum!!
ReplyDeletePetroleum byproducts-made by the same factories that make gas for your car-also contain cancer-containing impurities.
NO THANKS!!!
Like Jaye-Dallas, when I looked at the ingredients I was disappointed. I used to use this at least three times a day. All it is, though, is vaseline with a tiny bit of colour and a tiny bit of scent. I'd rather have dry lips than tumours on my lips.
ReplyDeleteMy Burt's Bees chapstick doesn't seem to be doing enough for my lips this winter. Maybe I should give this a go! I'm curious though... if there's a tint, how does it look on your hands, elbows, etc?
ReplyDeleteI'll second another commenter in saying that the Just Bitten lip stain from Revlon really works... as in, I didn't like the color I bought and couldn't remove it the entire night! :(
use this all the time! i have sensitive skin and it always seems pretty gentle. it's like a happy medium between chapstick and gloss. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been using this stuff for years...it's my drug of choice. It started out when I wandered into Bigelow's on 6th Ave and 9th Street about 12 years ago and I've never looked back. OBSESSED. I always have two or three tins just floating around my house.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with the stuff! I think I've purchased at least 5-10 tins of it over the last 5 years.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of both because there is a time for both. Being from MN, one learns to love lip balm - it is pretty much a savior in the winter. But it is also so fun to dress up a look with a fun lipstick - it seems like the perfect finish to almost any look!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
B
Rosebud is great! I keep it around as well as my Burt's Bee's chapstick (love the minty taste)
ReplyDeleteIt is so crazy to see this post because I just picked some up at Sephora a few days ago, on a whim, and love it!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try this! My lips need something good. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThis stuff is the BEST THING EVER!!! <3<3<3
ReplyDeleteIt's on my desk at the office right now! Love love love it. Perfect solution for dry lips in the winter
ReplyDeleteIt also comes in strawberry- I get one the start of every summer.
ReplyDeleteI agree though, it doesn't really give a tint.
I like Clinique chubby sticks they go on like chap stick, but give color that won't come off during kisses.
I gave this to all of my bridesmaids a few months ago, as part of their gift. I didn't get any for myself, and now I wish I would have! They all tell me it is wonderful.
ReplyDeletei live and die by Weleda Everon chapstick. I used to live in Switzerland and that (plus a cold-cream chapstick by Avene, that I used for deep winter) is the only chapstick I use now. I also put it on dry spots, but since it's small (and not in a tin) I don't think it would work for flyaway hair or diaper rash :)
ReplyDeleteWhen not wearing my fave Chanel or Mac lipstick, I like to use Vaseline pots - different scents too - my fave is the coca butter. Also Body Shop do a really nice vanilla spice lip pot.
ReplyDeleteOh yes I'm using it for years. It's great! :-)
ReplyDeleteI also love Christian Dior Creme de Rose ... spf10, slightly plumping and a hint of rose! Both perfect products for a perfect (easy) pout!
ReplyDeleteI love things that are multifunctional, except I don't like putting my fingers into lipbalm. But I will keep Rose Salvage in mind if I ever get over it.
ReplyDeleteI just realized I typed Rose Salvage =P I meant Rosebud Salve.
ReplyDeleteI've been a Rosebud Salve girl since I was 16 (8 years now!). I'm in love :)
ReplyDeleteIn the UK they sell Vaseline in tins this size for your lips. It was all I used until I discovered Rosebud. But I still have any friend traveling to the UK buy me some Vaseline tins. I've never found them in the US or online!
ReplyDeleteI love Rosebud Salve! It's like a little tin of miracle balm. Isn't it just the best when beauty products are so multi-faceted?
ReplyDeleteLately I've been using Baby Lips made by Maybelliene. I love it...it has a light tint to it depending on which flavor you get. I might have to try this stuff next though.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It's the only lipbalm worth using IMO - slather it on. Lovely natural rose fragrance too.
ReplyDeletelove the stuff! i never leave home without it :)
ReplyDeletei started using this lip balm but i have the one in the tube and i love it!
ReplyDeletewww.helloclee.blogspot.com
I love chapstick and lip balm but I'm really into lipstains. I've tried the rosebud and it really is nice and soothing
ReplyDeleteOh man I love that stuff! I seriously use it on everything. That and paw paw ointment (which I've only ever found in Australia- but I stock up every time I go). Everytime I wear the rosebud salve on my lips, people ask what I use!
ReplyDeleteyes I have used it for years, I like the tubes you can get at anthropologie now. I recently found a great one to add a little hint of color, its Burts Bees and I love the "rose" color...very natural looking and feels good on: http://www.burtsbees.com/natural-products/lips-lip-color/tinted-lip-balm.html
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a Chapstick girl now, but am still trying to find the right kind--one with as few scary-sounding ingredients as possible. I didn't choose Rosebud Salve because I wasn't impressed by the ingredients or the reviews of it that I found. I went with EOS lip balm in Lemon Drop (today, actually, because I just ran out!). It seems to be working well so far, and it smells great, too.
ReplyDeleteI love Rosebud! It has been a favorite in my family that has been passed down through generations. As crazy as it sounds, Rosebud also works for helping to clear up pimples. Rubbing a little on the spot before bed helps reduce the redness by morning.
ReplyDeleteLove that stuff!!
ReplyDeletei love this outfit
ReplyDeleteI used to use this, but i hate the too glossy feeling it leaves and i think its the petroleum that does that. Having worked for fresh for a long time, I felt like I couldn't cheat on the sugar lip treatment (good, but goes away too fast in this bitter cold!). Now that I work elsewhere, and feel like I can use anything, I'm completely hooked on a product from the husbands homeland, hudsalva forsvarets, or "swedish military cream". Its the best for this cold cold weather! You can also cook with it, or grease a bicycle wheel with it, and it tastes like vanilla, all natural ingredients. Prior to this and to fresh, my sister and I used to hoard european lip balm, labella, and all its incarnations in various countries. Now you can buy it at Shen Beauty! Hudsalva might be harder to find, but really worth it!
ReplyDeletethis is easily my favorite beauty product!
ReplyDeletei LOVE it. i swear by it. i've got to replenish my supply.
ReplyDeletexo
n
I only recently started using it, I have the tube version and it is so handy!!
ReplyDeleteI have and love it. Thanks for reminding me how much.
ReplyDeleteYes - I have used it as my eye cream for years, and at 44 - no crows feet yet!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree - Smith's Rosebud Salve is the best. I use the mint flavor...probably a little too much;) Cheers to a new year!
ReplyDeleteKristin
www.dressedandfed.com
love it.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I bought this a few months ago for the first time and I ADORE it. I use it on my lips constantly and on my cuticles too :) I love the rose scent too, so sweet and subtle.
ReplyDeleteI found this organic handmade shop on etsy known as skinapotheke, I swear they make the best lip balms ever, the chocolate one is to die for! they also have AMAZING skin care products :)
ReplyDeleteI also love the Smiths tins but don't like the petroleum base.
ReplyDeleteHere is an all natural rose balm, shipped for free from the UK:
http://www.feelunique.com/p/Figs-Rouge-Rambling-Rose-100-Organic-Balm-8ml
i got a tin of rosebud salve for christmas, and ohmigod i'm in love. i've heard that petroleum jelly isn't good for lips, though, because it doesn't put moisture back in--just seals in what's already there. but i haven't had any problems yet!
ReplyDeleteoh oh oh! after years of reading rave reviews about this salve in magazines, I finally bought it in August. I've been using it ever since.. love it! it's true-it seems to last forever!!
ReplyDeleteI use the Rose Salve by CO Bigelow, and it's easily the greatest thing that's happened to me, ever.
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favourite is Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment, which I think you can only get here in Australia?
ReplyDeleteIt's made from fermented pawpaw (papaya) and it's amazing - keeps your lips so soft and moisturized and gives them shine without being sticky. Plus it's great for insect bites, rash, and dry elbows or heels.
That's all I wear everyday, but if I'm dressing up I like to wear red or a pinky-plum lipstick :)
Wow Joanna...I feel like I have been living under a rock. I never heard of this product, but I'm going to grab one the next time I'm out. Where can I find Rosebud Salve?
ReplyDeleteI used to drive 2 1/2 hours to an Amish store to get this. Now it's at Sephora. I used it way before it was cool.
ReplyDeleteI have used it and it's time to get some more. Nothing else compares to it, but I can only find it in one place and it's in Harvard Square. Time to take a long trek on the Red Line! : )
ReplyDeleterosebud salve is the bomb! i've used on my lips, cuticles, dry elbows... so versatile and lovely smelling!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I'll have to try this. I'm always on the lookout for a good Chapstick. I'm definitely not a lipstick girl!
ReplyDeleteIn general I hate flowery scents, but I've been using rose salve for YEARS because it is the absolute best. It makes your lips SO soft too. I cannot even tell you how many times I've kissed someone and have them remark about the softness of my lips. Rose salve is the only lip product I ever use, so it's GOT to be the secret!
ReplyDeleteMy roommate just got me this for Christmas! I love it so far. It feels great on my lips and has just a hint a rose smell, which is good because I am not really one for super floraly scents.

I got one a few months ago! and I Love it!!
ReplyDeleteHere's a tip for kissable red lipstick: Revlon Color Stay. You could make out with the wall and it wouldn't leave a mark. It stays on that well.
ReplyDeleteI tried this salve some time ago because everyone on the net claimed it could do anything - tame fly away hairs, dry hands, chapped lips, even cure cancer. It is NOT THAT GOOD. I rarely use it. Only when my cheap, Target-bought lip balm / chapstick is lost. Don't waste your money. It's scented petroleum and does not have magic powers. If you wouldn't put vaseline in your hair, on your face, etc etc, then you won't use it. Just my two cents - hoping to save someone their own 2 cents!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Minted Rose balm? Same brand- different flavor. It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi Jo, I ran into in Venice on your LA trip a couple years ago...
ReplyDeleteI love this salve and was just wandering NYC looking for it. (In LA, it's at Fred Segal Santa Monica). Thanks for reminding me how cheap and fast it is to have it shipped. (It's also great for cuticles!)

3 of the best I have tried so far,
ReplyDeleteKorres Lip Butter- (my favorite is Jasmine)
Caudalie Lip Conditioner-stick
Dior Creme De Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm SPF 10
all are more of a splurge, and very different. The Dior rose balm will make you leave your Smiths Rosebud
I actually also use it to remove my eye makeup when traveling or in an emergency...just in case Ponds cold cream is not available!
ReplyDeletemy fiance also hates when i get my red lipstick all over him -- i recently tried chanel's lip stain in alexandrite and it literally stays on for hours without budging. i would highly recommend it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I've used chapstick for years because I like my lips to be moisturized but not sticky, and no glosses or balms seemed to fit the bill. But about a year I discovered Rosebud Salve and I'm so glad I did! It leaves my lips moisturized, smooth and soft looking, and subtly glossy without being sticky. Now I get the polished, put together look without the mess. A seriously great compromise between chapstick and gooey gloss!
