Do or don't: Thongs

So. I have a secret...
I wear thongs!

Yes, it's true. For years, I figured they would be uncomfortable, so I avoided them; I was more of a cotton briefs girl. But then I tried Cosabella thongs, and I fell in love. They're made of soft, comfy lace, and the cut is chic and sexy. But the clincher for me? You don't get panty lines when wearing jeans, so you look SO much better from, ahem, behind. Now I wear them everyday.

What kind of underwear do you wear?

  1. Love this post! Lately I wear tight boxers.

  2. I dont know how I coped without them from, a hem... behind, either!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I switch it up constantly. I have a few undies drawers! I like thongs, man pants, going commando, cute little briefs, and esp I like wearing American Apparel men briefs! so comfy but only for sleeping.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Thongs all the way! Despite their appearance, they are so much more comfortable. I can't imagine going back to grannies ;)

  5. I love, love, love these: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?searchCID=25781&vid=1&pid=748383&scid=748383002

from gap. They're lace without being itchy, with a little bit of stretch, and just the right cut! I also love the muted colors they come in (there are usually more in store, although I just bought a hot pink pair!

  6. They are all I wear! I find them comfortable. I think it really matters on the brand and fit of the thong, otherwise you are screwed. I probably will wear them forever.

I'm with you on this one!

  7. I don't really, although I haven't tried yet since I always thought they would be uncomfortable! I've also heard that to avoid panty lines panties (ha) are even better than thongs.

  8. Yes! Hanky Panky are my fave and Cosabella are a close second for me. Love 'em!

i'm a thong girl all the way! nothing kills a great fitting pair of jeans like double bubble!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I either wear hanky panky thong or calvin klein hipster briefs. I go full-butt panties when I wear dresses because you never know when a gust of wind will come by, and the dress wedgie is rather embarassing.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ooo, such a fun post!

I loved thongs when I was younger, now I'm more of a hipster shorts girl. They also avoid lines.

The trick is buy underwear that doesn't cut across your cheeks, either by avoiding them altogether (thongs) or covering them entirely, like I do.

Soma Intimates bamboo for me :)

Definitely a do! Down with VPL (visible panty line :) )!

  13. i LOVE calvin klein hipster briefs, katie!! those are my other fave pair. and ashley, American Apparel men briefs sound fun to try, too :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yesterday I saw a woman on the subway wearing a thong on her head...I would say that's a 'don't'...even in Toronto

    ReplyDelete
  15. HA. I love the Laurel and Hardy photo that you used for this post. Does it sound weird if I ask if you have a particular brand that you like? Because I like wearing them too...but I've found it difficult to find ones that are soft and comfy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. eek, I could never. I've tried over and over again, even on my honeymoon, and just NO. not worth the discomfort.
Although maybe I'm trying the wrong brand?

    ReplyDelete
  17. not a huge thong fan, thought I have a few pair. I am normally a bikini cut panty girl. :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't wear thongs.
I'm more comfortable in regular underwear.

As for panty lines from behind, well, I'm not trying to get that kind of attention anyway. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I would give it a try. I feel like it would make me feel hot all day knowing I'm wearing cute undies. Like a secret confidence booster. You don't feel like you constantly have a wedgie though? I think that's ever non-thongers' main concern.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Charlotte K1:08 PM

I don't understand them, actually. When I was young we just would have skipped the underwear entirely. Why bother?

    ReplyDelete
  21. What a fun TMI post. :)

I love Aerie cotton boybriefs, despite feeling totally awkward shopping amongst eye-rolling 16-year-olds whenever I go in there. And recently I got a pair of their boyshorts and totally loved them -- so maybe I'll be expanding my repertoire a bit!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Suzana1:11 PM

love a good lace thong! $20 is def a bit too splurgy for me but VS has some great ones too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I need new undies desperately- maybe I'll go with the thongs this time! I've never worn them before...my aunt told me they were butt floss when I was tiny, and I've never wanted to try them after that comment!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes! Hanky Panky for the day and cotton boybriefs at night! I will have to investigate Cosabella now!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm all about boyshorts, hahah. I seecretly don't bother to wear anything, though, if I am wearing (opaque!!) nylons or tights... :x

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agreed! Thongs are most comfortable and flattering when wearing pants/jeans! Love them!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Do !

I wear them for time to time and these look good...

But i must admit that i think my butt looks better in panties. And since i like wearing dresses (no dresses or skirt with thongs... just feeling the breeze on my butt makes me nervous, getting up stairs too) and to take off my pants and walk around the house in panties at night when i get home, panties get the most mileage

Regarding things to sleep in, H&M makes great cotton hipsters, they are really cheap too !

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love Hanky Panky thongs - I used to do Cosabella but found them a little uncomfy? But if you like them, maybe I'll try them again. It is a little weird that thongs have become somewhat of a norm only in just the last couple decades. I guess it has something to do with how tight our pants are these days, which my grandmother recently remarked on (referring to me!) with more than a little horror...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ohh! I say do as well! I haven't found the perfect ones yet but I'll have to try out this brand!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I wear this style thong every day too! cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  31. depends on my mood, and especially on the weather! when it's really cold i like victoria's secret pink panties or armani menbriefs.

  32. love love love thongs, been wearing them for years and couldn't live without. i do love to wear cute boy shorts too, my go to when wearing a dress on..breezy days ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thongs all the way! (If I wear anything at all -- honestly, if I'm wearing jeans or tights or lots of other things besides "work" clothes, I'm panty-free...) I wore Cosabella when I was younger and now am a strict Hanky Panky devotee, though the Commando line is not bad either -- I just happen to prefer the stretch lace of the HPs, and they fit me perfectly.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Kendra1:26 PM

I have a bit of a kangaroo pouch (thanks, Momma!) so thongs slide down in front and get uncomfy in the back....le sigh. I like the boyshorts, no lines with the lace ones from, a hem, behind either!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hanky Panky all the way (but only the low-rise)! I've never tried Cosabella... I got a pair of Hanky Panky thongs at my bridal shower and now I probably own 20 pairs. It is literally all I wear, unless it is part of a lingerie set! They are SO comfy. Never on sale, because they are so popular, but by far the most comfy thongs EVER. Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  36. This may be TMI but my gyno told me not to wear thongs every day because they make it easier to get an yeast infection. I don't know if it's true but I took his advice to heart. I now wear 100% cotton underwear from American Eagle that I *love* and thongs when I'm wearing a form-fitting outfit (usually when I go out).

    ReplyDelete
  37. Been wearing them for years and years...probably 15 now...everyday. Love the lack of panty-line. Don't think I could ever go back! I am the only person I know who doesn't like the Cosabella brand. I usually stick with VS...they work for me!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous1:30 PM

I didn't realize there were women left who *didn't* wear thongs on a regular basis. I wear briefs during "that" time of the month, but other than that, it's all thongs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm surprised to see so many ant-thongites on here. I've worn them pretty consistently for years and wear the lacey ones from Victoria's Secret. They are so comfy and I love a no panty line party! Viva la thong!

  40. I wear thongs too, I like them and find them very comfy...I think I will be old and I will still wear them :))

    ReplyDelete
  41. How about none. I just don't see the point of underwear. I'm comfortable, don't have to buy or wash undies, and never have panty lines to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've never worn them, but ladies who do: please avoid showing us your whale tail at all costs!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. lace thongs! I wore them all pregnancy long too, until after my son's birth when I had to switch to granny panties for a few weeks. But I'm happy to report that I'm back into my old lacey thongs again! they're amazing and comfy

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like the clean kind of underwear. honestly if they're not falling apart I don't care. I have all different kinds and I wear them all.

    ReplyDelete
  45. i have some just like this and I L-O-V-E! :) welcome to the other side ;)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love thongs but VS cheeky panties are my face! So comfy and soft :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. How cheeky ;)

I have several thongs that I wear when I don't want VPL (and they're lacy- the only way to go!) but on the day-to-day, I'm a boyshort/hipster kinda girl!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous1:43 PM

I came up in the 60's and we didn't wear ANY underwear. I now wear a bra (thankfully)....but still no unners!!! ...and no panty line in my jeans, either!
    I enjoy your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  49. thongs thongs, only thongs. specifically hanky panky original cut thongs. and the occasional eberjey or other fancy. I will sleep in a pair of soft cotton briefs though.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's not a don't for me, but a can't!

I just can't stand the way I feel in them; maybe I've been wearing the wrong kind :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Is there a store in NYC that sells Cosabella?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Noooo, no thongs. Comfort aside, I just don't really like the way they look... even on the best bums, ha. I like low-cut bikini or hipster briefs.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm not a thong girl. I'll wear one on a very special occasion (like underneath my wedding gown), but other than that, I wear boy-shorts, preferably lacy ones. xo.

p.s. For you, Joanna, The Thong Song, an oldie but goodie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oai1V7kaFBk

  54. i don't own any thongs, but i probably should give them a try...victoria's secret makes nice "hipster" undies that don't have any lines.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thongs and boyshorts.. yes! comfy lace undies are always a do.

    XX Hilary

    ReplyDelete
  56. That's all I wear! Unless I'm wearing boyshorts to bed (because sometimes I find a cute non-thong and can't help myself!) But I've never had a comfort issue with them, especially once I discovered that cosabella style (I don't have any of that brand but lots of places make a similar style). It's like their not even there!

Haha, I love this post, could we all get any more "girl talk" right now? :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have a few pairs of thongs that I wear with stuff that would give me panty lines if I didn't - yoga pants, thin dresses, etc. But I can't stand them... I spend the whole day waiting to get home and take them off! I'm super sensitive to anything that even slightly rubs, chafes, or is wedged into places that nothing should be wedged, and I've yet to find a thong that doesn't drive me bananas. I just prefer good old low-rise high-cut bikini briefs...

    ReplyDelete
  58. I wear thongs almost every day, too! I wear Lacies from Victoria's Secret, which look a lot like they kind you wear. They're one-size-fits-all, which is kind of weird, but they're sooo comfy! You might want to try them out as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. rebecca2:02 PM

Not any longer. The introduction of boyshorts a few years ago made me ditch all of my thongs, except for one or two pair. There are definitely some brands that are more comfortable than others, but I ultimately concluded that life is too short to wear underwear up your butt every day. Plus they're not terribly flattering when you're semi-naked.

    ReplyDelete
  60. i usually wear boy shorts but if i'm wearing tight jeans or a certain dress then i'll wear a thong. victoria's secret makes a great one called the lacie. so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Normal pants are way sexier to me, I think thongs look too cheap! But I do wear them when I'm wearing something tight a couple of times a week, or nothing at all ;)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Susan2:10 PM

    Hate them. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  63. i LOVE that you posted about this! so awesome:)
when i was younger, i never understood how thongs could be comfortable.. now, they're my favorite. once in awhile i go to my gilligan & o'malley seamless ones.. so comfy also.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Best thong ever is this Felina thong.. I wear it in black or nude ever day! No, it's not meant to be sexy it's meant to be a great foundation piece that won't' show under clothing and is so so comfortable. I thought the same thing too for years, and if you buy a quality thong, you won't feel a thing. Now I only wear full-butt panties if I'm wearing a short skirt as anything else under clothes feels so bulky.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous2:13 PM

Thongs all the way. These look like such a cozy everyday pair. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendation. And Anonymous 2:04 p.m. What exactly makes thongs trashy? They are just a personal preference for some woman and not for others.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I used to wear them but I never found them all that comfortable. I do love the no panty lines effect, though. Lately I've been buying that really tight material w. no hems (not sure what it's called, VS sells them), and it seems to be ok re: panty lines.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Just read some of the comments... why are people calling thongs trashy? I understand that if they're hanging out of your jeans then they look trashy, but for the average person who just wants to avoid panty lines (such as when wearing work pants), how on earth is that trashy? No one but you sees them...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous2:16 PM

I have had a lot of trouble with thongs in the past (read: yeast infections) and they have never felt comfortable to me. I'm of the opinion that women with fuller bottoms find them more uncomfortable than women with flatter ones. Also, the only thing worse than VPL is visible thong line. When possible, go commando!

    ReplyDelete
  69. My GYN has told me repeatedly to not wear thongs. Actually every GYN I've ever gone to has said it's a no-no because it's basically a pathway for bacteria... kinda gross when you think of it. : ( I LOVE the Aerie boybrief for sleeping. It also doesn't give a VPL with most clothes. http://www.ae.com/aerie/browse/product.jsp?productId=6444_8752_400&catId=cat4750004

Other than those, I agree with the poster above that said VPL is usually from undies cutting across your cheeks. I wear a lot of brazilian or "cheeky" bikinis. Problem solved!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Joanna you are adorable! Your blog gets better every day! I think thongs are fine as long as girls don't wear them trampy and show them off as they wear them out and about. I think the show and tell should be saved for the special someone at home.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Okay, so, I know this is really weird, but my butt just like does NOT work with 99% of non-thong underwear. I basically have the bubble butt to end all bubble butts, and anything other than a thong fits terribly. Size small underwear fits in the front, but digs in like crazy in the back. It will ride up wedgy-style in about five seconds. Size medium underwear is often too big in the crotch (too wide, if that makes sense), but it usually STILL digs in in the back. So I just gave up on underwear with material on the back. I've had 3 pairs of non-thong underwear ever that don't do that.

I'm partial to Honeydew thongs, which have a pretty lace waistband with a nice cotton/rayon/polyester/something soft and magical underwear part.

Under skirts and dresses, if I'm not wearing tights, I usually wear little seamless shorts so that I don't feel naked.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I pretty much always wear thongs. Other underwear inevitably end up giving me a wedgie (I don't know how to say that without being blunt haha) anyways, so why not just eliminate that problem all together? :)

    Jess @girlintransitionblog.blogspot.com

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thongs all the way since I was old enough to know what they were! As other people have commented: I couldn't imagine going back to grannies!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous2:35 PM

Second best thing about thongs: fart silencer.

    ReplyDelete
  75. No offense, but it'd be nice if you offered more budget friendly options when sharing your "finds." $100 sheets? $30 thongs?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anyone who says a thong, ANY thong, is more comfortable then regular ol' bikinis is kidding herself. They're basically a permanent wedgie! But there is one style I can deal with and that's the lace skinny thongs from Gilly Hicks (gillyhicks.com). The lace is so soft and stretchy and THIN that you truly can't feel it, for real. I only wear them when I absolutely have to, but when I do it's great :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. definitely do! and there are many options out there of the lace variety that you can get for very cheap from most lingerie stores :)(in response to comment I saw)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Great topic!
I have to admit I don´t like thongs at all but I guess it also comes down to your behind and its shape. So it´s simple black briefs for me.

    ReplyDelete
  79. thongs all the way. hanky pankys are my fave!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. There is no way I could afford $20 for one pair of undies!

    ReplyDelete
  81. DO!!! Couldn't live without them.
    Much love,
    B

    ReplyDelete
  82. I used to wear them all the time. Now...not so much. Maybe they've changed and I should give them another chance:) They do look better under clothes. Stop by my blog for an art giveaway!

I find I only want to wear a thong when it's, um, sexy time. Actually, wearing silk panties has prevented me from getting any kind of a line under a dress and I find them most comfortable at all. Though I handwash, they last longer than those cheaper pairs I've purchased at the Gap, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  84. that is the majority of my underwear! they make me feel so..free haha. But I do find boyshorts comfortable, but once you go thong.. you can never go quite back.
    -N

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'll probably seem lame after saying this, but cotton briefs (a.k.a. "granny panties") are the only ones for me! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Do! I started when 14 and will NEVER go back. Its more uncomfortable to have a wedgie you can't pick and unsightly pantie lines!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Panty lines are the worst! I swear by Hanky Panky's - but now I'll have to try these ones!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I've worn thongs since high school; I *can't* wear briefs. I've got a heart shaped bum, and while I know that's the "desirable" thing to have, it means that it's too shapely for briefs, and they end up bunching up and giving MASSIVE wedgies!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Definite do, seamless french knickers are good too!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I love this post! I used to wear Cosabella's everyday too but then I tried Hanky Panky's and now I'm hooked. I only own a couple pair of regular undies!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I've been wearing thongs for at least 10 years, I love them and don't have a brand preference. I always hated "regular" underwear and would get wedgies all the time, then one day in TJMaxx I saw a thong and have never ever looked back!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Been wearing thongs since my early twenties, pretty much every day. The only time I wear something like a boy short or underwear with more coverage is if I'm in a drape-y dress or skirt. :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Definite do and my favorite are lace hanky panky thongs. Nothing comfier and they are worry free!

    ReplyDelete
  94. A definite DO! Hanky Panky thongs changed my life.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Chelsey3:26 PM

I'm a thong girl as well. However the tanga cut is one of my new favorites. No lines and they make your bottom look SO cute!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous3:29 PM

I love pretty undies as much as the next gal, but I just wanted to chime in about infections (fun!)and underwear. I'm a doc and thongs increase the risk of getting bladder infections, so if a woman has had them before I tell her not to wear thongs. I also tell my lady patients to try and wear only cotton (no synthetics) to avoid infections as well. One last tip: avoid underwear to bed if possible (or wear only cotton).

    ReplyDelete
  97. i don't think i'd wear thongs if panty lines didn't exist! :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. I'm not a big thong wearer, but Victoria Secret makes a pair that look similar to the ones you mentioned and they are so comfortable!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I can't stand the way thongs feel. I love VS hiphugger & when worried about VPL, I wear their seamless, synthetic ones. Fredericks has some great sexy undies for those "romantic" nights!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I'm a bit old school, I wear briefs that I make myself from my mum's 70's pattern!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Oh no! I just cannot get on with thongs! (Although to be fair I haven't tried for 10 years...)

I want a pant that covers my entire bottom but still manages to be sexy! A UK department store called Debenhams stocks some great underwear and I also love La Senza...they do a silky black number with lace at the top - perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  102. I wear them occasionally (Hanky Panky are my faves), but I usually wear "boy shorts"--again, Hanky Panky make my favorite lace ones and Calvin Klein makes my favorite, for lack of a better word, plain ones. Fun post!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Anonymous4:15 PM

I haven't worn undies in 20 years, but if I did I don't think I could ever, ever wear a thong - it would drive me crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I remain loyal to Hanky Panky low-rise thongs. I've strayed on occasion, but I always come back. I did have a notable affair with Fleur'T boyshorts once that I can't let go of.

    ReplyDelete
  105. What Amy said. Not taking a ride on the bacteria highway. Pretty lace undies for me, or sometimes none if I'm wearing tights/stockings. Good for you though! Many friends swear by them.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hanky Panky everyday! They are amazing. Jo, you must try them ASAP!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I used to wear them in my 20's. But, they started to give me gas (sorry, TMI).
    http://www.thegirlieblog.com

    ReplyDelete
  108. i LOVE Hanky Panky! They are the same lace, but you can throw em in the wash and they won't tear (a lot of the cheaper versions- gap.target, ecet) will tear if you don't hand wash. AND Hanky Panky's come in the CUTEST colors!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I tried thongs for a time...but sweet mercy ladies, how can you stand a string up your butt??? Maybe I was just wearing the wrong ones. I'm all for my grannies ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  110. The cut of the panty doesn't matter so much...as long as it matches my bra exactly. Never go out with mismatched underthings, even if only my cats and me see 'em :) Is that sort of a "French" thing?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I hate getting panty lines, it's embarrassing and not a pleasant view. I prefer thongs!

    ReplyDelete
  112. I agree with the commenters who are surprised at the non-thong wearing crowd! I thought the "uncomfortable" stigma was a relic of our mother's generation!

I don't wear them with jeans (I don't see a panty line in them??), but I definitely wear them to the gym (if I'm sporting tight yoga or bike pants) and to the office most everyday.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Me too! I HATE regular undies. I guess my butt cheeks won't hold the fabric in place, so they always seem to find their way into the crack. I'd much rather a small strip of fabric in there than a whole bunch of grannie panty!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'm all about the plainest black Gap bikini-cut underwear. I'm so glad it doesn't have any lace on it, because I'm all about simplicity and comfort.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I am obsessed with boys shorts, although I wear thongs every once in a blue moon.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I've got a booty, so anything that emphasizes it's awesomeness works for me. Thong, boy shorts, or bikini cut.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Completely agree!! ALthough I love underwear and I wear all kinds, my fav are thongs! :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Anonymous6:02 PM

They look sexy, however I am unclear on how one size fits all?

    ReplyDelete
  119. I wear thongs under clothes, and prefer Hanky Panky and Cosabella.

For bed, I like cotton boy shorts.

    ReplyDelete
  120. We always used to have the thongs v big knickers (panties - I'm British!) debate when we were coming of lingere buying age... and now I'm so used to wearing thongs I don't question buying anything else.

That was until staying with the boyfriend's mother who kindly did our laundry and commented on "how small" my under garments were... hmm...

Alright, Joanna, I'm taking your word for it - just ordered a pair! I've always been a briefs girl (for comfort). Hopefully this is the thong I've been looking for...

I don't usually like them. I have tried lots of different brands at different times over the years, but they are never what I reach for to wear. I don't really like how they look (I don't think they do great things for the rear view without clothes), and then the comfort factor is not 100 %. I much prefer a cheekie brief or boyshort type cut, looks lots better on without clothes and much more comfortable.

My only thing with underwear is that it has to match with the bra. Never wear unmatching.

Like someone else I don't get panty lines with jeans, even skinny jeans. Maybe I am wearing jeans of a thicker denim? I usually wear gym gear with a built in brief or liner so vpl's are not an issue there. Then with skirts and dresses I can't imagine ever wanting to wear a g-string (thong).

    Great post!

I have worn everything from thongs to boyshorts, and I've been a recent thong convert. I love the Aerie vintage lace ones because they fit so nicely. Tangas are a great way to do the transition slowly since you're not completely left bare. ;) Either way I am completely an Aerie underwear girl. And their bras fit amazingly too.

I might try some more VS underwear as time goes on. They have some great undies too.

victoria secret pink have cute lace around the hip thongs. those are the only ones i wear. and boy shorts to bed. i hate the feeling of grannie panties under a pari of jeans.

  126. It's all about Patagonia's Capilene hipster undies for me! Recyclable, quick drying, easily hand-washable, no wedgies, fun colors, super cute, etc.... :o)

  127. I have to laugh! When I first read the First line of your post I was wondering, 'why on earth is it such a secret that she wears thongs?' then I scrolled down & realized you meant underwear & not the footwear that we Aussies call thongs(flip flops!)!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Lovely post! I wasn't always a fan of thongs because they were so taboo. Now, I wear them practically every day.

Oh! I would love to love thongs, but I've tried over and over and it's just like an all day wedgie (sp??) I've asked friends and they just say you get used to it, but so far I've found that I just end up thinking about my underwear all day. Maybe I need to spend more on a nicer brand.

    ReplyDelete
  131. mixing and matching works best for me! Lately my favourite has been a brazilian or boyshort... something that covers a little more than a thong and a little less than a regular brief.

  132. OMG! What a cute post. I love the boy shorts too.

  134. I'm not a thong all time girl, but there are items that are just better when there's less on the bottom.
I didn't realize how much I wore them until someone stole my thongs. I stupidly left my laundry hanging out over night outside my apartment, and when I brought the laundry back in, only the the thongs were missing. Some sicko picked through my clothes and only took the choice pieces. (((shudder)))

    ReplyDelete
  135. No way! I've tried a couple of different thongs and could *never* get used to having something between my butt! Too weird! I like Aerie underwear and Target has a nice brand called Gillian and Malley, too!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I don't mind thongs* and will happily wear them with a tight skirt or pair of pants that requires it, but if I can get away with not wearing them I will. I love cotton hipster boylegs for everyday, and then have a bunch of pretty lacy thongs and french knickers for when someone is actually going to see them.

*I find it funny to call them thongs as in Australia "thongs" are what Americans call "flip flops", and the type of underwear is called a "g-string" here.
This has made for some awkward moments whenever I've said "Let me just go put my thongs on before we walk down to the shops" in front of American friends!

  137. Def a Hanky Panky girl.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Not me-. I felt like I had a wedgie all day, giggle. Tried them, hated them. I use to wear only silk hiphuggers but now I stick with victoria secret high cut brief. Comfortable, and wedgie free Hugs!

  139. I'm picky about my undies too! I also prefer to wear thongs under jeans and other tight garments. I have found that thongs with strings on the side (for extra stretch) are the comfiest on my curvy hips and big booty. For bed and looser dresses and such I stick with classic low rise bikinis. Boy shorts, "cheekies" and other options that cut off across my butt cheeks are so annoying. My favorite time of day is gym time when I go commando ;) Lucy.com carries great workout pants with a cotton liner, so no undies are necessary. This is so much more comfortable and more hygienic than wearing thongs under tight workout pants! Love them.

  140. Hanes hipster briefs are my favorite. I'm low maintenance. Also, I try not to worry myself about things like panty lines.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Tangas or cheekies. They make less of a panty line without being as invasive of my personal space. I used to be thong only but I had to switch it up. But I always try to find something cute.

Cosabella and Hanky Panky are both wonderful, and I own way too many pairs of both brands, but I've noticed that Cosabella thongs start losing their elastic and fraying, whereas I've never had that problem with Hankys. Just a tip!

    ReplyDelete
  146. I love them. I don't notice them when I'm wearing them so they're not uncomfortable at all. I actually find them more comfortable than a lot of other kinds of underwear. I find ones that have stretchy lace to be my favourite.

    ReplyDelete
  147. you have to try soma's invisible edge panties. they're literally the only underwear i wear now, and theyre totally invisible under everything.. from white pants to yoga pants, you can't see them. they have some plastic ribbing along the edge instead of a thick band of elastic, so there's no panty line at all.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I guess I'm just an equal opportunity employer when it comes to underwear- thongs, briefs, boy shorts... I wear 'em all and sometimes nothing at all! (BUT only on laundry day and never a skirt, just so we're clear.)

I've had great luck with the lace thongs from gap body and they're a bit cheaper than their hanky panky/cosabella counterparts too, if anyone is interested. :)

Already posted to say I am not a huge thong fan, but just had to come back to say...alhough I may find them a little less than 100 % uncomfortable. They are no where near the holy heck uncomfortable that is underwear that has a vertical seam all the way up the middle in the front. I inadvertently bought a pair when I was not paying too much attention. They soon went in the trash!
The only reason I can think for a company doing that is to save $$ on fabric?

thongs all the way! but i'm really specific....the soft lace waisted thongs from VS are pretty much the only undies in my drawer....except for a few cute boy short style ones....and the full bottom's that come out once a month and are only for sweatpants or bedtime. interesting to read everyones opinions :)

Oh my gosh, no! They're like a highway of bacteria from your pooper to your urethra! And I don't know about anyone else, but I tend to stay quite moist down there so thongs just cause a lot of chafing and chapping. Awful, awful, awful! Bikinis for me!

  171. That's just about all I wear! I usually sleep in boy shorts or hipsters. My reason: I hate VPLs but more than that, I hate elastic waist bands that give me any trace of love handles. I love that the lace just lays against my skin and thongs are so comfortable! I stock up on the Victoria's Secret PINK 5/$25 deals. :)

I feel awkward wearing anything but thongs! Hanky Panky are my favorite, and I also wear the VS lace ones quite a bit. I have bought a few cheap pairs that were definitely awful and uncomfortable, so maybe that is where a lot of the ladies discomfort comes in? I just feel like its so much fabric when I wear briefs. :)

I personally don't care what underwear other people prefer, as long as I can't see it. The whale-tail is evil but so is visible underwear of any kind. I think the ladies that are so "shocked" that some people don't wear thongs doth protest too much.

It personally feels unsanitary to me to have fabric riding up there, and I'd like to avoid trips to the gyno but if you prefer it and don't have issues, good for you. Why do we care so much what other people wear? Personally I find thongs uncomfortable and no amount of other people singing their praises will shift my opinion. We're all different. Do what works for you. I hate it when girls throw around "granny" or "trashy". If you aren't wearing it, what do you care? We all have different ideas of sexy or comfortable. Personally, I love a boy short on a girl, nothing cuter...to me.

Here's an alternate perspective: when I was in Soho during Christmas, I was sitting at Olive's, waiting for a sandwich, when a chic woman came in with her son.

Her jeans did not have any back pockets, and it was clear, from my, ahem, vantage point, that she must have been wearing a thong because her bottom did not look, well, supported.

I have never tried a thong, and I wonder whether this situation is part and parcel of the thong experience. Personally, I'd prefer a little support!

Really? I thought thongs were dying a slow death, at least it feels like that in Europe. Of course, i wore them when it was kind of compulsory but hated them for a few reasons: i find them very unconfortable, I guess it depends on body type, some women find them mormconfortable after they have become moms. Then there is the hygiene issue, it's just no good as regular wear. Plus, i guess some, or many, men go for them, but the kind of men I like and certainly my man don't. It all goes down to personal choice only... As some one mentioned, there is something worse than vpl and that is visible thong line. And because people assume that thongs are vpl proof (they are not!) you got a lot of that. Visible thong through leggings, and thin skirts, and white trousers... Yuck.

Virtulay invisible CK hipsters for me, to avoid vpl. Otherwise, o the pleasure of a dainty cotton embroidered pant fro Stella McCartney or retro lacey stuff fro Elle McPerson.

i disagree whole heartedly with no panty line argument. there absolutely is still a panty line, only in a different, place. in my opinion the thong panty line looks much much worse. really, if that is what you are going for, those boy short cut ones are the way to go because the line is below your cheeks, much less obvious than a big ugly thong line, and you still get the little bum lift that comes from more full coverage styles.
