Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? We're bundling up and taking Toby to the holiday train show in the Bronx. (He loves trains almost as much as cars, buses, taxis and garbage trucks, so he's going to be psyched:) Also, my gift guide will be posted all next week. Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing weekend, and here are a few posts from around the web...

  8. That before and after photo of Faith Hill is nuts. Her arm in the after photo looks wacky...like she has no elbow. The more I look at it, the more grossed out I get haha!

  10. I love that NPR story about the man who was mugged...so beautiful that he was able to see past the violence and give the teen what he really needed...a friend, a meal and some good advice! Xo, Katie

  12. Thanks for sharing the retouch photo. I think she looks better (and more human) in the pre-retouch. I also think they took away the wrinkles from her eyes that make it clear that's a *real* smile - kind of sad.

  15. So glad you're taking Toby to the holiday train show. I've convinced a few friends here in DC that we should take their kids to see holiday lights at the Zoo & also at a park. Go ice skating on the Mall, get hot chocolate, etc. The experiences of the holidays, the songs, etc. are really important. I remember some of those more than I do the presents I received when I was little.

    xoxo

  16. How fun - living in Connecticut, the holiday train show was on our calendar every year. Sadly, the boys are too old (or so they think!) this year and we'll miss the experience dearly. Make sure you reserve tickets before you go - it is a popular destination! Enjoy! Cynthia

  23. Wow! That NPR story was incredible! I feel like if I were ever mugged (knock on wood), I would be too scared to do that. That man was incredibly brave to even talk to him after. Just shows you deep down there is good in people.

  24. So glad I had time to check your list today...that NPR story is really something. I'm rather moved and so happy to know that there are still good people in the world. And that before & after photo of Faith is RIDICULOUS and made me sad (esp. since I have 2 daughters!)...she looks so much better, with character, in the before photo! Hope you enjoy the train show ~ happy weekend!

  38. hang on a second, what do you mean blankets aren't an impenetrable barrier from monsters?

also, i know someone who actually got coal in their stocking one christmas... she was about 7 and had told her parents she no longer believed in santa, oops!! how mean is that?!

i am a bit in love with the bow tutorial, i am terrible at tying bows (which i have always blamed on being left handed) so maybe that will help me in the future. i will practice on my all star laces!
