Haiku traffic signs

New York City has launched a new set of traffic signs--written in haiku poems. They're designed to encourage people to be more sensitive and share the street. Genius.

So great! Thank goodness people are taking notice of the pedestrian/traffic issues in NYC and addressing it creatively.

What an effective campaign! "Unwanted door prize" made me chuckle.

Thank goodness I live in a small town, the middle of the street chit-chat / run in with old friends is something I am so guilty of!

Great signs! I will keep my eyes peeled for them when I am in NY in April.

Ahhh Lord Byron reference to my favorite of his poems.

I doubt they'll enact change because jaywalking is inherent to our New Yorker culture, but it'll be something nice to see. Beats those hilarious totally staged photo signs on the subway!

It is inappropriate to say, 'nerdgasm,' if I mean it? Seriously. The nerd in me LOVES this entirely too much. :)

Hahaha I like these a lot! :)
Love the "She walks in beauty like the night..." reference, that one is my favorite! Love the pun about the fractured narrative of the sudden car door! :D

Hope you're having a lovely day!

Beauty, thoughtfulness and art meet necessity and function--only in the New York. love it. If only all of our signs, buildings and functional designs could be built to inspire!

We need those signs in Seattle. Pedestrians and bikers get hit all the time, especially in the dark.

only in NY would we speak in haiku to get people to do something...at the very least pedestrians will take the time to read them and maybe watch where they are going...if they can look up from their phones long enough to notice the signs. I swear most accidents happen on the sidewalk these days bc people are just not watching where they are going since they're too busy checking FB, twitter, tumblr, text, reading the NYT...etc. still, this is genius!

So cool! Are they really putting them up in the City?

(I can be a bit gullible so I'll believe you if you say yes. :)

What a great idea! I love it when traffic safety is communicated in a cool, artistic and fun common sense kind of way.
