French wedding dresses

Aren't these the most ridiculously beautiful French wedding dresses? So ethereal and romantic.

By the way, Glamour.com just wrote that the time between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day is "Engagement Season," since so many people propose at that point. Is anyone thinking they might get engaged?

P.S. My wedding dress, how to do your wedding hair, and other jaw-dropping wedding dresses.

(Thank you, Florence)

  9. anonymous, you should check out the wedding store Lovely Bridal in new york -- it's amazing, super friendly and lovely, in an old brownstone in the west village with fireplaces and antique sofas!

  12. My boyfriend says things like "the family church in the middle of Kansas might be a nice place to get married. I hadn't considered that..." and when I sent him the pictures of the hotel in the Chilean mountains featured in Honestly WTF few days ago, he replied "honeymoon?" even though I said no such thing. It seems like he's fine planning the wedding but doesn't ever let on about anything engagement-wise! I'm about to pop the question myself! Honestly, it's adorable, and I'm not in any rush. I love knowing that he thinks about all that stuff, even if he pretends it's no big deal! I actually think it would be kind of funny to plan the whole wedding in secret and then get engaged - it would take off a lot of pressure!

  13. Ooh la la. I think if you put the word "French" in front of anything, it would sound amazing. Let's try it: French socks. French blankets. French plumbing. Hmmm.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. haha, kate, that's really cute:)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I wish I could! Thanks for acknowledging that it's terrible.

  16. You know what's funny? I was in Paris last week and saw a couple taking wedding photos in front of the Eiffel Tower... they were literally in head-to-toe glitter, even in HIS hair! It was like a Quinceañera gone wrong. Nothing like these dreamy dresses :)

  17. Well, my boyfriend proposed on Saturday... (With his grandma's cute ring, I wrote about it herehttp://annabelvita.com/a-story-about-a-ring)
It was our two year anniversary and we don't celebrate thanksgiving but it's still in engagement season!
I have a theory that people don't like to propose in wedding season because they don't want their partner to think they felt guilted into it by the wedding. And also, if I'd got engaged this summer it would have taken away some of the attention from my brother's wedding - I reckon that happens a lot too.

I'm about to move to Switzerland with my boyfriend of 2.5 years...the conversation has definitely come up with some regularity recently so who knows...ahhh!

  21. I told my boyfriend of four years to wait until I graduated college to propose. I graduate Dec. 17th, so I could become engaged at anytime. SQUEAL! (All caps is slightly obnoxious, but the possibility calls for it.)

My boyfriend and I have our 3 year anniversary coming up on January 12th, and we'll actually be together on it for the first time...I was in Austria and he was in Ohio for our one year, and then Texas/Ohio for our second year! You never know... :) Congratulations to the ladies who have already gotten engaged this engagement season!

  24. We're definitely ready to get engaged, so I think it's just a matter of time. We've thought about eloping but I'm way too chicken to skip the big wedding and disappoint our families -- we've been together nearly 9 years, so us getting married definitely deserves a fairly massive party. Keeping my fingers crossed that the question gets popped sooner rather than later.

  25. Those dresses are GORGEOUS. Seriously stunning. I think my man's gonna propose soon :) we've been talking about it for ages and are planning on getting married this summer, so it has to come sometime soon! Im so excited :) my friends and family are all waiting on pins and needles. Ha

Also I wish I were getting engaged this season, but seeing as I've only been with the BF a year, I think next season is more likely/reasonable. Fingers crossed :)

  28. Oh wow, a Christmas engagement would be beyond perfect! something to break up the winter blues; a big sparkly ring would detract from how early it is dark now! (3.30pm in London, eugh)

  41. It was dark in Sweden at 2:00 p.m. today. UGH.

Those dresses are pretty, but I couldn't get past the fact that the models looked So. Hungry. Maybe a few other body types modeled would have really made the beauty of the dresses stand out...

  44. Oh these are lovely - the first one especially in my eyes. I got married at Aspen in ski clothing which was white, but still a dress like one of these makes my heart pitter-patter. One thought I often have about so many current wedding gowns is that they are not really appropriate for a church wedding - all the cleavage & sexy draping. Maybe I am just an old fuddy duddy, but they make me uncomfortable in a church setting. I would be so interested to get you & your readers' take on that... ~B

  45. Oooo! This is the part of the process I'm most excited about! I can't wait to try on dresses :) And these are just dreamy!!

My boyfriend and I designed a ring together back in October, and I've deduced (through his hints and other things) that it's coming any day now... I'm on pins and needles waiting! So excited!

  50. How awful is this? I learned about it at Vacation Bible School! They made us watch a video with cartoons that explained it. My mom was PISSED, and for good reason. They had no right to show that to us. The only thing I remember from talking to my parents that night was that I just kept asking me dad how guys can pee once it gets hard. LOL. Poor guy, I'm sure I mortified him but I was just dumfounded that it would be able to go from soft to hard to soft.

  58. I just got engaged in july.. wedding next august.. I'm dreading the wedding dress shopping! As a plus size bride there is nothing beautiful out there for someone shaped like me. Just the David's bridal satin dress. I've searched and shopped..and well I cant believe how bridal shops act toward someone that is labeled "plus".

    ReplyDelete
  59. I LOVE the lace! I could never pull it off. It'd make me look like I was wearing a communion dress. (Which was lace WITH lace tights, and probably is how I associate myself in lace.)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh my goodness....that one with the deep V and lace insert is so gorge!!! I've been with the bf for four years now and super hoping that the question is on the horizon. Maybe you should do a post about "how to be patient when you know you want to be with this person forever but you want to start wedding planning right now and please just ask me so we can DO this thing!" haha!

but really, these dresses are beauties.

  65. Joanna, I wore the same wedding dress! I purchased it from JCrew for 30% off last cyber Monday, wore it at my wedding in May, and felt absolutely beautiful (and comfortable)! In fact, I loved it so much I just had it dyed grey and I am wearing it (with a red velvet blazer) to a black tie holiday party this year!

Those french wedding dresses are beautiful but for a girl with a bigger bust (like myself) there's nothing like the Gracie.

  91. Oh my goodness, Joanna, the Gracie gown was my wedding dress too (in January 2009)! In fact, I bought it on sale, and also got 30% off the sale price and free shipping. To Hawaii. That's where I was living at the time. All in all my wedding dress was only $175. Boom. And it fit me like a dream straight out of the box! It was meant to be, and there's a special place in my heart for the Gracie. You have impeccable taste. :)

Marissa Waddell, the HUGE majority of couples taking "wedding" pics around Paris (if they are Chinese there is a big chance the wedding was moons ago but they're just re-enacting to get romantic pictures taken...) are foerigners and tourists. It's really not in the French tradition to do that, especially not in front of the Eiffel tower... Locals would have photo sessions in front of their local church, then off to the reception adress to take most of the rest, and more often than not, in a suburb or chateau / old house in the Ile-de-France region... But it is funny and ironic definitely! ;)

As a Filipina it's interesting to learn that besides the perfect wedding ring, the couples needed to choose the right Ketubah Designs for their Jewish wedding ceremonial. This is like a bond of responsibilities, truthfulness and love for each other and their future children.
