What kind of perfume do you wear?

Yesterday Toby and I stopped into Sephora to smell perfumes. Toby had a stuffy nose, so he wasn't much help, but I fell in love with Clean. You smell like you just stepped out of the shower, all fresh and sexy and kissable. What perfume are you wearing these days?

P.S. Six other quirky perfumes.

  2. I have always loved Allure by Chanel. Other perfumes I wear always make me feel sick, because I can smell them constantly. But for Allure, I could spray it all day and never tire of it. It's also a clean, fresh smell, which I have always been drawn to. :)

  3. Rarely use perfume, but when I do, I'll spray some of the kind I used to wear 10 years ago for nostalgia: Ralph by Ralph Lauren. I'll try 'clean' next time!

  4. I've been wearing Ultimate Clean for a couple years. It's the best thing EVER.

  5. Barely There by Bobbi Brown. It is a light, everyday fragrance.

I wear a bunch of different ones. I sometimes wear SJP Lovely or Covet. Sometimes Flowerbomb. Sometimes an Aveda fragrance (I think it's Water #5). It all depends on season, occasion, and mood.

  9. Oops, I guess it's called "Clean -Ultimate" No wonder I love it: bergomot (like in earl grey tea), lavendar, jasmine, lemon. It's a hodge-podge of all of my favorite smells.

  11. If you enjoy un-perfumy perfumes like me, I highly recommend D.S. and Durga. (http://dsanddurga.com/) My husband wears Burning Barbershop and it's delicious. Their Coriander scent for women is also wonderful.

  14. I have crazy sensitivities to perfumes (itchy skin & severe headaches), so I'm pretty much au naturale. I use apricot scented tom's deodorant though, so I guess that counts :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've always wanted a signature scent and I finally found it last year- Trésor, by Lancôme. Not too strong, so I can wear it without getting a headache. In finally finished my first bottle of perfume - EVER. (all the others I would buy, use for a week, and then give to a friend because they were too strong!).

  16. I was devastated when Stila discontinued their fragrance Creme Bouquet. I used to get SO many compliments. So I went online and researched what "notes" they used for it and then searched perfumes with the similar make up. That's how I found Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. I love it and still get compliments. Just enough so people get a whiff when you hug :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I change it with the seasons. Right now I love Gucci Guilty.

    ReplyDelete

  42. I ADORE this post. I love knowing these facts about people- I love the responses. I too like clean, and love Demeter Laundromat- can you get cleaner? it smells like you've just laundered your clothes and your you! I am sure you've read, and probably blogged about the book Perfumes. So hilarious. When a perfume I loved was described as eau de rubber-gloves, i swiftly changed my mind!! http://www.perfumestheguide.com/Perfumes_The_A-Z_Guide_-_Luca_Turin_and_Tania_Sanchez/Where_to_Buy.html I WANT TO SMELL ALL OF YOU!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I wear Elle from Yves Saint Laurent... heavenly.

  56. My fave is the traditional/first Marc Jacobs scent. I also love some of his body splashes, especially the pomegranate, my lighter summer fragrance is generally Fresh Lemon Sugar

    http://chicgeekery.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  57. Fresh out of the shower scents are my favorite but lately I've been using Lola by Mark Jacob which is nice but I always wonder if it's a bit too strong for close quarters like work...no complaints yet, but I can't help but wonder.

  58. Spring Fever from Origins.

    ReplyDelete
  59. French Lilac by Pacifica. Reminds me of springtime!

My fav brands were Heeley (Sel Marin smells like your skin is kissed with sea salt after the beach. Cuir Pleine Fleur is amazing mens cologne that smells like your favorite leather chair), Comme des Garcons (#2, 888 - they are known for avant garde scents like adding smoke to a perfum), Diptyque, and L'Artisan Parfumeur. Highly recommend testing these out!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Bond No. 9's Andy Warhol Union Square. Love it. The beautiful bottle cracked in my suitcase one trip, but I managed to salvage almost all of the perfume. It now sits pretty in a glass bottle on my bathroom counter although it doesn't compare to that bright floral one.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I've been wearing Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely for years and I still love it. They say that when choosing a fragrance you should find one you love and stick with it, especially if you're a parent because it will help your children remember you. Our sense of smell is the strongest tie we have to our memory - whenever you children smell your fragrance it will give them strong recollections of you, even when you're gone from them.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Armani Code I love it (love it!).
Emporio Diamonds by Armani, my husband loves it.

For ORGANIC scents I love this brand, Honoré des Prés... it's French! xx

    ReplyDelete
  94. Creed Spring Flowers is SUCH a lovely fragrance. It was created for Audrey Hepburn. Their perfume is expensive as heck so I don't wear it that often, but the splurge was well worth it. It's made with really high end ingredients so it doesn't ever have an alcohol-y smell.

I also love Stella by Stella McCartney. It's floral but sexy--definitely get asked "what perfume is that??" on a regular basis by guys :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. There are several perfumes that I love and used to wear regularly, but when I started having babies I didn't want them snuggling into me and absorbing all those toxic chemicals. (Many of the same chemicals that are found in cigarette smoke.... what's the difference for your kids???). Plus I liked the idea of my children knowing "MY" scent, not a synthetic version of something else. My youngest is 16 months so maybe when she finishes breast feeding I'll consider perfume again. But I love essential oils for scent right now. And to be honest I think I'll be very careful before I start "spraying" myself again! xx

    Wonderstruck.

Beyond Paradise by Estee Lauder in this beautiful little rainbowish purple glass bottle. I'm in my early 20's and have been wearing it for about 10 years..pretty sure it's my signature scent. I don't think I've gone a day without it...I feel naked. And honestly, at this point I don't even think I can smell it that much because I'm so used to it.

The other day my friend Scott said, "Some lady came into my job and smelled exactly like you...I could've sworn you were in the store." I thought it was quite a compliment. :)

I have been wearing Kiehls musk for the past 7 years. I have had others but nothing is quite like it. I love it and get complimented on it all the time. Perfect for day or night, I like to think of it as my (and probably a million other smart people out theres...) signature scent.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I rock Be Delicious by DKNY; sometimes I wear Chance eau Fraiche by Chanel, but Be Delicious is my fave. One time a friend hugged me and said, "You smell delicious! What are you wearing?" They thought I was joking when I said, "Be Delicious..."

  138. Have you ever been to Bond No. 9 on Bond St.? They have the most beautiful perfumes! I also love that they're kind of special and that you can only find them in a few stores. I love West Side the most, but all of them are lovely. The bottles are kind of cheesy, but the scents...the scents are incredible : )

  139. perfume is one of my favorite things. I would love to have a signature scent, but I haven't settled on any one scent yet. Right now I'm using Annouck Goutal Ambre Fetiche and Grove New York Luxe based on my mood. But I think the thing I get the most compliments on is my Lush Dirty Body Spray!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Chanel No. 19.
    For today, yesterday and forever.........

It is clean, slightly green, fresh and powdery with a bit of a 50's vibe.
I get many compliments (from men and women), my husband loves it, as do my children (if I ever have anything else on they say I don't smell "right")
...totally agree with Bethany's comments about children remembering your fragrance. My youngest son took a scarf of mine to hospital as it smelt like me (he was only 6 at the time) as it was a great comfort to him.
...but most of all I love it myself - it just makes me happy!

  141. I've been wearing Coco Chanel since the mid 80s, when it first came out and I was a teenager. My Mom went to a conference with my Dad and all the wives were given swag, which included a tiny bottle of it. I loved it so much I kept sneaking dabs, until the bottle was gone. I got a full size one for Christmas that year and I've worn it ever since. I've flirted with other fragrances (Opium is wonderful and sexy, especially mixed with sandlewood oil), but I never feel quite like myself without my Coco. My husband and I were in London recently and we went into a Penhaligon's shop to "play." He loved the way Artemisia smelled on me, and we bought some (including a beautiful silver plate compact with a solid version in it), and I do like it a lot, particularly because it reminds me of our time in the UK, but I still prefer Coco. I'm terrified that Chanel is going to stop making it!

  145. I've gone through phases -- in college and law school and through my early 20's I wore Anais Anais by Cacharel (my husband still says that's the smell that reminds him of me. To me, it's the smell of Paris from when I was a child), then I switched about 5 years ago to Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil (smells like grapefruit and rain) and lately I've been wearing Jo Malone's Orange Blossom.

  147. I wear Kept by MCMC– I LOVE how it's a floral but it's roughed up with leather... I really want MCMC's Love too– it totally takes me to fields of sage in the west! Before MCMC I'd wear Fresh perfumes, but they're too sweet smelling for me now!

  148. I wear Clean too! I also really love Oh Lola! by Marc Jacobs.

  149. Annick Goutal's Petit Cherie. No one knows or recognises it, which I love.

    ReplyDelete
  150. My favorite is Black Orchid Voile de Fleur by Tom Ford. It's unique and not a lot of people wear it, but it's pretty heady, so I usually only wear it when it's cold outside!

I'm super picky and can't stand overwhelming scents. I too go for clean or light floral scents. I adore Pacifica's French Lilac-I bought the roller-ball version last Christmas and still have some left! Their Tahitian Gardenia and Tunisian Jasmine are awesome too:) at $12, they can't be beat!

  152. i've been wearing a gwen stefani harajuku lovers perfume in "baby" which i got at costco for like 20 bucks!
the bit about toby not being much help made me laugh out loud!

  153. Perfume always gives me headaches, but the one that I can always wear and love is Ralph by Ralph Lauren.

Burberry The Beat or Britney Spears' Believe. I love the Burberry one because it reminds my boyfriend of an amazing vacation we took together! The Britney Spears one smells great, and I don't feel bad wearing it a lot because it's not super expensive. :)

  155. I'm wearing Womanity by Thierry Mugler. So yummy! It smells like woods, citrus, caviar and fig.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone. It's amazing! It has sweet fruity notes of raspberry, plum, pink pepper and pomegranate with patchouli, frankincense and spicy woods. I love it!

  157. Fall/winter perfume: Possibilities by Ann Taylor. Spring: Amazing Grace. Summer: Stella by Stella McCartney. Love each of them! :)

  159. I started wearing Clean and Clean Sweet Layer a few years ago, and then a couple of my friends liked it and bought it too...and it seemed to smell better on them. You know how certain perfumes respond better with certain people's body chemistry? It made me a bit mad, so I switched.

Now my day perfume is Hesperides by Fresh, which is citrusy.

I need a good night time perfume for when I want to take it up a notch, but I don't like to be toooo perfumy, so I'm happy for all these suggestions! :)

  160. Just discovered bvlgari jasmin noir l'essence, and have worn it every day since. I love it!

  161. I just use the Sheer Freesia body mist from Bath & Body Works. It's light & smells pretty =) I also have the lotion in that scent, so oftentimes I don't even need the body mist after lotioning up with it.

I'v been wearing Dolce & Gabbana since I was about 16. Now people tell me that they think of me whenever they smell it :)

  165. Euphoria by Calvin Klein. You only need a little of it to smell sexy & by the end of the day, it's so subtle and lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Does anyone else feel like they're wearing the wrong perfume when no one else has listed it? :P

I love Obsession Night (Calvin Klein), but I'd love to get my hands on Flowerbomb! I don't usually wear perfume, though, so I can't justify getting it :(

  167. My perfume stash is embarrassingly large... I love everything from CB I Hate Perfume, and am a big fan of L'Artisan's perfumes, too -- especially their "tomboy-ish" ones like Mechant Loup and Dzing!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I used to wear L'Occitane's Vanilla Bourbon exclusively but then they changed the formula and it's never been the same. I love caramel and vanilla notes, so I also like Angel by Thierry Mugler and Creme Bouquet by Stila (ordered it off of Ebay, thank God I found it again!). Marc Jacobs is also really nice... floral and a bit coconutty.

  169. I wear japanese cherry blossom, mariah carey M and Harajuku lovers and very wang princess.

  170. yes! I love CLEAN too! I bought the mini set and its good smelling like laundry haha.

I received a DKNY of floral + apple duo from a friend and I like it as well

  171. Clean sounds so nice... I'd like to try it! I wore Viva la Juicy on my honeymoon and now every time I wear it, it makes my hubby and me feel extra romantic. :)

    ReplyDelete
  172. I just got Gorgeous by Victoria's Secret and its pretty light, vanilla-ish. I also love Rosewood from Banana Republic.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I carry flowerbomb by victor & rolf and wear it as my everyday scent, but wear French Kiss by Tokyomilk from Anthropologie going out... reminds me of the first Christmas with my boyfriend, when he got me the scent.

  174. Gosh, I can't remember the last time I wore perfume! Maybe I should, there is something sexy about smelling good.... Always loved Abercrombie 8.

Joanna or anyone that can help, could you email me where you got your blackout shade for Toby's room? I am in need of one and can't find. Thank you! amynicole.bracken@gmail.com

  175. YSL's Baby Doll has been a favorite of mine for years. It smells just like sweet grapefruit.

I also love Thunderstorm by Demeter and usually get compliments from guys if I wear any kind of tangerine-based scent.

  176. So, I'm a little bit perfume obsessed, but I'm really drawn to weird, original scents. I really hate generic ones that smell too chemically to me now. I think it's sort of like becoming a wine snob, once you taste really amazing wine you can't easily go back to bad merlot...or whatever. Ok, that might make me sound pretentious, but I swear I'm not! I just really love perfume :)

So, my main go-to is layering Comme de Garcons' Avignon (which is a strong incense that smells exactly like a European Catholic church during mass) with L'Artisan Parfumeur's Vanilia, which is a slightly ashy sweet vanilla. It's a grown-up vanilla that isn't too formal, but when it's paired with incense, it's this great strong, sexy sweet, smoky combination. I adore it.

Other perfumes that will always be on my all time favourite list (but can not afford...sad!) are Chanel's Coromandel (exclusive line) - it's also kinda hippie but sophisticated. Slightly patchouli, which I have always loved growing up with hippie parents, but then really chic vanilla and spice... it smells like the most graceful lady you can imagine - but you know she had a little bit of a wild youth :P

Then, my other love is Liasons Dangereuses by By Killian. It is the most sensual, beautiful, floral, berries amazing perfume ever. So so beautiful. It smells like a picnic in a forest dripping with flowers and fruit... Oh man.

There are more (obviously, haha), but those are my all time favourites to date :) I would encourage you to check out Katie Puckrick on YouTube - great perfume videos, as well as the Perfume: A to Z Guide - super great perfume reviews. Ok, stopping rambling now!!!

my husband bought me champs elysee, a perfume i never would have even tried out since its so...womanly. he told me he smelled it in a coffee shop, and tracked down the girl who was wearing it to ask what it was. he said "excuse me, what perfume are you wearing? i think my wife would love it." i asked if she thought he was a creep coming on to her, but apparently she thought it was sweet!

  192. Got a sample of a bvlgari jasmin I absolutely love and hopefully will get it for Christmas. I usually don't wear anything, but I like soapy clean scents, coconut, vanilla...once in France, this girl smelled amazing so I asked her what her perfume was and she just said vanilla. It was the most perfect vanilla.

  193. I love Chanel No. 5 and Victoria Secret's Love Spell. I've been wearing Chanel Chance, however, for the past year and a half. It lasts forever!
