My parents

A few weeks ago, I linked to this hilarious ad for Canadian whisky...
Shortly afterward, my mom sent me this photo of my parents in college in Virginia. They had been dating for a year. It's basically the same photo! (Did everyone sit like that in 1972?) It's so funny to see your parents when they were young, before a bunch of rowdy kids came along. My dad had a thick English accent and my mom was from Alabama.

P.S. My Parents Were Awesome and Dads Are the Original Hipsters.

Absolutely LOVE this!! I love the pic of your parents. I want to be friends with those cool people! And huge thanks for the links to the site My Parents Were Awesome. I do dream boards for each of my kids (corny, I know) and I've been looking for pics of happy, in love, married couples to represent my biggest dream for them. The house and home pics are easy, but you'd be surprised how hard the other is to come by. Thanks!

Joanna, the photo of your parents though--without the belittling copy--is sweet and adorable.

  100. I think girls sitting on their boys laps was a "thing" in the 70's. I distinctly remember seeing a photo of my mother's cousin sitting on her (soon to be) husband's lap from this era. And, I recall when I was little that my mother used to sit on my dad's lap casually, usually in the evening when we were relaxing after dinner. Aren't there scenes like this in moves from this era, too (60's, 70s)? I think it highlighted the petiteness of the woman, a la Twiggy.

  101. I just saw this picture of your parents and got really excited. I'm a senior at W&M now. Seeing our name where I little expect it brings a little cheer to exam season.
