Motherhood Mondays: French-inspired maternity clothes

My jaw dropped when I first saw HATCH, the new maternity line. The clothes are chic and feminine, and the best part is that the fourteen easy pieces adapt to your body, so you can wear them before, during and after pregnancy. When I was pregnant with Toby, I felt blah wearing baggy jeans and black T-shirts, so I hope to wear these next time around and feel beautiful! Don't you love them?
P.S. Are any of you expecting babies at the moment? :)
P.P.S. HATCH's Facebook page.

My question is, are YOU expecting a baby, Joanna?? :) I remember you tweeting recently about having baby fever...
I saw these the other day and thought they were absolutely ADORBSAUCE. I then blushed because I am definitely NOT expecting a baby, or have plans for one in the immediate future. Non-pregnant gals can totally rock these though?
Becca
Love that they show both pregnant and non-pregnant girls in the images!! The striped dress from the pictures is gorgeous!
swoon - best clothes ever. definitely going to purchase even though i am not pregnant!
I love, love, love the collection! I'm actually expecting my second child (I have a 2 year old girl and #2 is a boy) and will surely buy something to feel cool and sexy ;-)
becca, yes! that's the best part:) they're like regular amazing clothes that also fit when you're pregnant.
trina, yes, haha, i definitely have baby fever, but am not pregnant at the moment;)
i am 4 months along and saw this line the other day- super cute but a little pricey. But with that said they seem like great investment pieces!
I am not currently expecting, but I've noticed a lot of pregnant women at my work lately and just this morning I was thinking what would I want to wear. SO, I'm glad you posted these options since I was mostly thinking about pajamas. :)
These are awesome and just in time too! I just found I was pregnant yesterday!
Those are so elegant!
I am 6 months along. I have been wearing skinny jeans, striped tops and cute shoes. I need some sweaters and a new hair idea for the winter ahead. Braids have been my thing for the past 6-9 months.
I LOVE this site, and the clothes. The dresses are divine.
The dresses!!! WOW
almost 6 weeks pregnant and looking ahead at all the cute maternity wear that i will hopefully get to wear! i'm not as convinced i'd wear these outfits - they seem a bit tent-ish to me. i have a very small frame and prefer more form fitting clothes. thanks for doing the maternity shopping for me :)
Not currently pregnant, but will be keeping this site in mind for the next time! :)
Due any day :)
Baby #2, a little girl this time, is due at the end of the year. I can't wait to meet her!
ooooooooh i too love these gorgeous clothes! the dresses are beautiful. i am going to send to my sister in law who is expecting twins!!
O my! You DO have baby fever. Shoot, those dresses make me wanna get preg again. stoppp ittttt...the voices in my womb just might start up again! :)
Most of these are beautiful, but I would have looked like a windswept tent in the big dresses in the middle photo...
Hildur
Gosh, I can only hope I feel as beautiful as these women look when I'm pregnant. Lovely post, Joanna! I adore your blog!
Here's my question to you, Joanna. Are there any things you would do differently the second time around? I love your baby/pregnancy posts and I totally love your parenting style. I think you should definitely go for #2! ;)
absolutely gorgeous collection, so chic, makes you want to wear them even if you're not pregnant! love the camel coat and stripy tee!

We're expecting number 4 and find out what it is on Wednesday. I love your motherhood Monday posts!!!
I am pregnant (again) and the clothes are lovely, but man - I cannot afford those prices. I wish! Stellar work on the part of the HATCH team though. Truly amazing idea - most expectant mothers only wear a few things anyhow.
I just had our first exactly 8 weeks ago. These clothes are super cute - I always strived to stay feeling cute during the long hot summer despite wanting to throw in the towel. Is it weird that I can't wait to be pregnant again? I cried this weekend folding and putting away the newborn clothes he's already outgrown!
What a great line of clothing! Exactly what I've been looking for, although I'm hoping I don't have to buy any additional maternity clothes. Our first baby, a girl, is due December 10. We're counting down!! I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all of your Motherhood Monday posts! Thank you for the useful insight!
I'm expecting and this is SO inspiring!
My last pregnancy I was able to find a couple non maternity pieces I could wear during and after pregnancy that were SO cute. I'm hoping to do the same this time around.
I'm 12 weeks along with baby 3. I really WANT to like these clothes...the models are insanely beautiful and look so very chic, but the clothes seem like the kind of thing that, in real life, (unless you are an ACTUAL model or have the proportions of one) would mostly just look like you cut a hole in a sheet (a beautiful sheet, but still a sheet) and stuck it on. I think form-fitting is always best for the pregnant body...maximize the beautiful bump and minimize just looking w-i-d-e.
Seriously, so chic. Much better than the leggings and sweater combo I had my pregnancy.
God, I WISH there had been maternity clothes as chic as that when I was pregnant! Still on the fence about having a third...
THESE ARE GORGEOUS!!!!!!
I'm not preggo and I would TOTALLY grab those dresses. Gorgeous!!
i am 8 weeks pregnant! hoping to be a super stylish mama-to-be... :)
Who says you can't be elegant while pregnant?! The outfits are gorgeous.
normally i shy away from form-fitting clothes, but during pregnancy that's the only way i like to dress. but really it depends on how you carry the weight. i was all belly last time, not so much this time around (19 weeks). maybe cutting a hole in a sheet and sticking it over my head isn't such a bad idea, lol!
I'm due in a little over a month (2nd boy.) I've had some 'hot mama' moments but they're becomming few and far between - my waddle sort of detracts methinks ;) I love Hatch! The before, during, after aspect is brilliant.
About 15 weeks with my second and I am so excited. My two darlings will be 18 months apart! HATCH offers a gorgeous selection of easy to wear pieces, unfortunately the prices are a little to rich for my blood. (My frugal father uses this phrase regularly and it always makes me smile!)
okay these are GORGEOUS! seriously.
beautiful. can i wear them now? i am not pregnant.
Lindsay
i love the trench jacket. so, so pretty. yes, you can wear them when you're not pregnant, that's the genius part of them:)
so fun to hear about you expectant mamas!!!!! huge congratulations!!!!!! xoxoxo
Wow1 Those clothes are so beautiful! Maternity wear never looked so chic.
I am 13 weeks and starting to think about needing some new clothes so this is perfect!
15 weeks along and super excited to have a little NYC baby next Spring. Haven't purchased any maternity clothes yet, but will most definitely invest in these. Beautiful!
I am pregnant and due next month, a Christmas Eve due date to be exact! I love this maternity line, so classy. I wish I found out about them earlier on in my pregnancy.
This collection is to die for!! These days pregnant women look for pieces can multitask just like they do!!
You don't need many items in your wardrobe to pull off sophisticated, on-trend looks, but you do need to know how to shop savvy! HATCH definitely offers a perfect collection of such pieces! Which you can wear before, during and after pregnancy! GENIUS!
xoxo, Paula

I just found out last Thursday that we're expecting our first!
Love the adorable clothes:)

Wow. Wish I had such chic maternity wear when I was pregnant.

I'm right smack dab in the middle... 20 weeks. and starting to really LOOK pregnant now (which is nice to have some "proof" of all my hard work). :)
what a lovely line... i like how the clothes are geared for before AND after pregnancy. would love to sport some of those styles to birthing class! :)
thanks so much,
Jessi

Yep, just got the positive pregnancy test this morning! I just had to tell someone! Waiting to tell family until a little later.
I'm 16 weeks along with my first baby. I've just reached the in-between fat and pregnant look. I can't wait to be able to dress my bump properly, I'm mostly rockin the baggy look right now and I'm fed up of it. Can't wait to slip into some tummy hugging numbers.x
I think the "after" is the most crucial. I had twins 6 months ago and am still not back to my pre-preg size and definitely dont want to by anything as I'm still losing weight but feel like I have nothing to wear that's cute....If some of the maternity clothes I had were less, well, maternity - I'd probably still be wearing them...
Logan--So exciting! Congratulations!
I love the Hatch line--I'm not pregnant but I'd love to wear any of these! I love that they work pre-, post- and while pregnant.
Ooh, super cute! Nowhere near pregnancy (though rocking a bit of a food baby right now) but I'll definitely pass this along to my prego friends.
I love these clothes. The stripey t-shirt with jeans is really cute and the stripey dress is so flattering. They look chic, but comfortable. Love the white blouse, too.
so so so gorgeous!
Gorgeous!
Hands down my favorite maternity line I've ever come across. I would love to try their pieces!!!
These clothes are great but a bit pricey for maternity. I can't bring myself to spend too much on clothes that has a limited life span (though many of these you could wear post-baby).I am expecting a baby in April!
Heehee, okay. I hope that question wasn't too nosy, but I'm sure that we your blog readers will be thrilled for you if and when you do make that announcement! :)
this line makes me want to get knock-up! let me go find my fireman!! ;)

Not expecting now, but this proves I could do so without looking like a schlep. Not that I could afford it... too bad. Beautiful stuff!
I may not be expecting but those long billowy dresses are beautiful! Too bad I would look pregnant in one of them without actually having the baby to back it up.
I love that short trench like coat. I also really like showing off the pregnant belly with a belt. Such breezy looks. Ooh la la!
And the coat #14 on the website is my absolute favorite. Now to get pregnant...
I am! Due in February...I just came across this new line. GORGEOUS.
so cute! if I were pregnant I'd try these out!

Yes, I am 13 weeks pregnant with my 34rd, so all my maternity clothes are so dated! These all look beautiful.
I wish I would've seen these sooner! They are beautiful but I am due in 4 days so I'll definitely be getting these next time as well :)
so nice to have some options out there ... i'm new on the 'pregnant adventure' and have been cringing at the site of other maternity wares. hip hip hooray for HATCH!!
xo
Jo- Love these! My sis is prego with her second. Would you consider doing a round up of great maternity clothing finds for the holidays?
OOOH, such beautiful maternity clothes! I have 6 days to go until my due date, so I'm not buying more clothing at the moment, but it's so nice to see maternity clothes that are chic AND can help you transition from non-preggers --> preggers in a fashionable way!
Oh shucks. Wish I had seen these sooner. I am 8 months pregnant (home stretch!) but oh so wonderful to know about for next time around. I'll pass along to my friends who are expecting!
these are GORGEOUS! i'm due in april and juuust starting to show...mostly it looks like a whole lotta lunch :)
These are beautiful! I'm due in June, just about 8 weeks along :) Can't wait for that baby BUMP!
Yes! I love the pregnancy posts, because I'm due in May. HATCH is gorgeous.
i am expecting! i have been staying away from maternity clothes but these are cute! thanks for sharing :)
My husband and I tried for 3 years and we are having our first child together and I am due in April! Love, love, love this line...
i love the first look. it's like i would never have to change my look!
ps, http://amandamantes.blogspot.com
I am currently expecting and this is definitely what I would go for as my belly gets bigger!
wow love the trench and stripe combo especially. it makes me want to buy then now so i can wear them and save them for that day waaay in the future.
Oh my goodness, BEAUTIFUL!!! What an amazing line!
I'm expecting my (FIRST) little one to arrive in about five weeks (give or take)!!!
actually, since you ask YES, am expecting baby number 2 in june. it's early days so i'll keep this comment anonymous! these things are very lovely but also very out of my price range, hey ho, H&M have a maternity line that might be more suited to my budget.
Love this new line! It looks great! I can never find flattering maternity clothes for petites. I look dumpy in EVERYTHING!!
I am expecting a baby, next month! Yikes! I've already got a 2 year old so I'm afraid of how busy I'll be.
Thank you for the inspiration to dress better!
Such a great post for expecting mothers. Love the fashion!
www.dylandrake.blogspot.com
I am pregnant and I recently saw the HATCH line on a different blog. I got really excited but when I went to their site to actually purchase a dress I realized that most of the clothing is actually incredibly unflattering and looks pretty cheap, like something you would buy at Target or H&M. I wanted to find something that would actually work for me, but most of those pieces just look awkward! Maybe its me just being cranky and pregnant?
Also, one more thing! I'm super skinny and tall so I am trying to find some clothes that are not as baggy...Joanna, I loved all of your maternity wear posts when you were pregnant. The striped dress post immediately went to my pinterest board. :-)
I'm 33 weeks and totally feeling non inspired sartorially. I did do a bit of shopping for some simple sweaters and a pair of skinny jeans that have improved my wardrobe options immeasurably, if you can only imagine. Its basically still jeans and tees though - there has to be something out there better for someone on a budget - a MAJOR budget. I didn't have more than $100 to spend on maternity clothes. I'm so thankful for hand me downs. The HATCH collection IS beautiful though, but well out of my price range.

5 1/2 months along. A little boy! Your post about wanting a girl, but having a boy helped me through some things. :) I'm living in Forever 21 maternity jeans and comfy sweaters. Wish I could afford this stuff!!
i found that tight fitting clothes are much, much, more flattering than big billowy tent-like dresses/shirts. on my third pregnancy and isabella oliver has the best clothes by far so far. really flattering tshirt/dresses that make you look pregnant not fat/misshapen.
I agree with Molly, tight is much better! Though, I am digging the stripes!
Baby is at 28 weeks- the start of the 3rd trimester! woo- who
not pregnant, but kinda wanna wear this line anyways.
Beautiful clothing. I'm 14 weeks along and live in tshirts and loose jeans, nothing close to what I used to wear! Thanks for the link.
www.ssandsneakers.blogspot.com
I am! Tried out Shade Clothing: they have cute stuff but the WORST customer service of all time.
love this line, it's so chic and wearable. i only wish i could afford it. i'm due at the end of janruary and trying to make my current wardbrobe (plus maternity jeans!) work for awhile.
I just checked out their website, and honestly, they have created some of the most beautiful maternity wear! Love, love everything they have to offer, and I especially love the fact that their pieces can be worn before+during+after pregnancy. Absolutely genius.
I'm 25 weeks pregnant with our 2nd, a boy! (we've got a 3 yo girl). I'm trying to avoid the frumpy look, so you've inspired me with these chic designs :)
Umm, I am nowhere near being or even wanting to be preggers, but these ladies look so fashionable in those pics I want to buy these clothes anyway! Great find.
Too cute! Love all the stylish new maternity lines that are hitting the market
Love these! So great that they last into the post-baby phase when your old jeans don't feel quite right but a pant with a maternity band is down-right depressing.
Oh no, I am so far beyond the baby expectation club, my mind boggles. I am expecting menopause--which appears to have similar enlarging effects on the body, (my mother's waist is gone. Gone!) but without the fabulous result :(. Those maternity clothes--especially the flowy dresses, might serve me well in the not too distant future. Some tween/teen motherhood guest posts might be interesting some time. At least I am finding it interesting in my own house/blog....
Enjoy your posts, always.
The 2nd and 4th photo are gorgeous maternity outfits, but the top one just looks like blue jeans and a baggy mens shirt and that 3rd one? I mean, who is going to wear THAT? Sorry... sometimes designers just go a bit too far simply for the sake of designing.
I'm in love! The bummer about maternity clothes was how useless they were before & after mid-late pregnancy! It was hard to justify buying a bunch of new clothes for those last few months but I really needed them since the tail end of my pregnancy fell in the dead of winter when we get -20 (celcius) weather quite often. (Maternity winter coat? ugh!) I would have willingly spent a little more for clothes that would have been wearable for a little longer! Styles now seem a lot more friendly for pregnant women in general, though. I think it would be easier to get away with buying non-maternity clothes that would still work while pregnant.
Fingers crossed am 6 weeks pregnant, a bit worried and petrified having experienced a loss for my previous pregnancy at 10 weeks (so stress is high until I hear a little heart beat fingers crossed). But if I get along, will definitely be buying one of the dresses, they are devine.
I am having my first baby in April. I only wish I could afford these clothes. I've been sewing a lot of outfits from vintage maternity patterns.
Those maxis are TRE CHIC! I wonder if I could wear them without being pregnant? (No baby plans anytime soon, but cute dress plans, yes!) ♥
I love that pregnant women can look so good. I haven't seen many make this sort of effort though.
oh my goodness. i just became 15% less miserable thinking about becoming pregnant again. that's 15% closer to maybe, possibly enjoying it next time. haha. these are beautiful!
14 weeks with twins! (I'd love for you to post a little more about what it was like growing up as a twin/what you would suggest (dos or don'ts) for twin mothers, so as so make sure to focus on the individuality of each kids!) So far, though I've grown quite a bit I don't fit well in either maternity, or my regular clothes (oye) so I'm opting for the bella band with my skinny jeans and lots of oversized sweaters and men's flannel shirts from thrift stores. I just need some cute (and comfy!) shoes to pull it all together.
I'm pretty sure that I never want to have kids, but I would wear these clothes again and again. I love it.
holy cow. these clothes are amazing!! i would wear them now and i'm not pregnant. those dresses are TDF!
I'm expecting twins in 7 WEEKS!! (End of December) The Hatch coat would be perfect, as fall progresses (and that snow storm over Halloween!) I'm struggling to keep warm when I'm out. Nothing zips or buttons up anymore, even maternity clothes! And the bottom of my belly shows because my maternity shirts are getting too short. Luckily though, most of my maternity clothes from the Gap are cute enough to wear post pregnancy. My husband even commented to me "your maternity clothes are so much cooler than your regular ones!" I told him I should go on shopping sprees more often :)
And like Kate above, I'd also love to hear about what it's like being a twin and the bond you have with your sister.
since you asked...yes, at 42, with a son a few weeks away from 18, i have recently found i am expecting again! shocked AND awed!
LOVE these. I completely agree with your "feeling blah" when you were pregnant statement. These pieces would solve so many wardrobe issues when you're pre to post pregnancy.
love that they are styles that can be worn just as an oversized shirt later!
xoxo

i'm pregnant... hooray!
i adore these clothes, but i'm pretty sure they would only look great on really skinny girls. and since i'm getting rather chubby in my 5th month, i can't imagine wearing anything so drapey and feeling like it was flattering. i still love the style and concept though!
i am! it's my first, too. sadly, as much as i LOVE these clothes, they aren't even kind of going to happen on my grad student budget. i hope some fashionable mama is enjoying them doubly for my sake. :)
So gorgeous! Definately make note of this for when I am preganant!
Fabulous! love them all!
They look just sexy :) aww..
LOVE these, with the exception of the over-sized dresses, only reason being that I'm only 5'2" and they would just about swallow me. But I love how they show that style can and should=motherhood, which is what my blog is all about! =)
@skinnyjeansmom
http://blogs.inlandempirefamily.com/author/skinnyjeansmom/
2o weeks pregnant with number two!
Isabella Oliver also has great French maternity clothes. Pricy but gorgeous. I love the Hatch line. I wonder if they deliver to France? I love the striped dress necklace belt and blazer combo!
I've got 7 weeks to go - eek! Love the style of the above but at just over 5 foot I would look like a walking tent in those clothes! Leggings, tunics and beautiful statement jewellery (and red lipstick) have been my friends throughout this pregnancy.
Loving your Motherhood Monday posts :)
I agree, I don't think these maternity clothes would suit most women -- unless you are very slim & tall, form fitting rather than masses of fabric is a much better look during pregnancy.
The 'you'll wear it after pregnancy' thing is a bit of a swizz -- no, you probably won't -- I bought some (regular) maxi dresses thinking the same thing, but every time I see them in my closet I think 'ah, but those are my maternity clothes'!
Also pictures of pregnant women wearing crazy heels in catalogs always cracks me up :)
Lovely inspiring post! xo http://hannahalehandra.blogspot.com/
The blouses with leggings are so pretty.
oooh beautiful!
http://lachapstickfanatique.blogspot.com
I saw these on Marvelous Kiddo weeks ago and they were as stunning then as they are now.
Is that where you saw them?
I agree with others though - way pricey for maternity.
I get that they are meant to be "transitional" but still I've read so many accounts of women being pretty over the clothing they wore again and again in pregnancy.
I'm 37 weeks! I really wish I had known of these clothes earlier on in my pregnancy! I guess there's always next time ;)
I am expecting a boy in February and dressing has been the hardest part! I work in the fashion idustry and I'm young so I want look my age and stylish but I also need to be comfortable.
I'm going to check this line out and maybe order a few pieces to get me through :-)
These are so chic! I'm due tomorrow but maybe next time around!
Sort of a non sequitur but I recently learned that the French term for pregnant translates to "getting fat." Which is pretty much everything you need to know about the French! :)
fantastic! they need to do a diffusion line!
Love them all!
Awesome clothes. I am 7 weeks along. Just searched for and bookmarked your baby registry post - very valuable information to have! ;-)
I love the flow on these, not really fond of the skin tight maternity clothes. These have such a simple elegance.
Ooh so gonna purchase this - although I am not pregnant!
(p/s: my word verification says 'bearkid.)
We love HATCH! and the name for the clothing line... just brilliant! I was inspired by cup of jo mention of their branding firm and posted this..
http://ezrazoe.wordpress.com/2011/10/06/excellent-new-line-of-maternity-clothes/
The clothes are gorgeous, but since I'm saving and saving to take as much time off as possible when the little one arrives, I doubt I will buy a $300+ cardigan.
we're having our first baby in february!! im still trying to wear my own clothes. and finding dresses and jackets works best so far. i also a got a couple of trousers from asos. p.s. dear santa, please can i have these pretty things from hatch to mix and match..
I am 37 weeks with my first baby. A little girl for us :). We are over the moon excited to meet her. Like you, she's our little honeymoon baby. we knew we wanted children right away so we were so happy and blessed that it happened so quickly.
I was lucky enough not to really need maternity clothes until about my 7th month but I fully believe in showing off my bump with fitted tops, dresses and leggings. I would totally invest in a few of these pieces especially since we want to have more children as soon as possible after.
Wow, $98 for a tee, and $348 for a "dinner party" spaghetti-strapped dress? Very clever marketing ploy: "You can wear it forever!" I better be able to with those kinds of price tags. And I thought strollers/cribs/etc. were expensive.
I'm trying for a baby but we just started to this might take awhile! That said, it's so nice to see stylish maternity clothes for a change. I remember when my stepmother was pregnant with my little sister back in the 90's the clothing seemed almost childish and far from trendy.
thank you for giving me some ideas. I was reading lately a blog with careerplus (Minor Tweaks to Your Corporate Clothing) that kinda make me think on how I wear clothes so I tried to see some photos of some fashion blogs to give me some perspective.
I'm due next month with our first, a little son, and while I love the idea of this line, I bought a piece and it made me look like I was wearing a tent! I'm very petite and short-waisted, but maybe for tall leggy mommies it will work better!
Lovely clothes! am very inspired to dress nicer for the remainder of my pregnancy! Am 29 weeks along with my second. :)
http://eleanorsara.blogspot.com
Hi Joanna,
Yes, I'm expecting! First time. Due April. I love this collection, but unfortunately out of my price range. I love the fluidity of the fits. Love your blog. Keep writing.
These are stunning! I am expecting in Feb. :)
Those clothes are awesome!
This is genius! I love how they showcase each garment on a model who is pregnant and then on one who is not so you can see how it transitions.
OMG STUNNING!!
LOVE the striped dress, I'm 32 weeks pregnant and there are so few beautiful things out there for maternity wear! thanks for this :)
I'm in love with this collection! So chic and comfortable.
wow, so adorable, amazingly stylish and perfectly endow-able collection.
~Aansy Stone
This is a good collection of maternity clothes. It is really beautiful and i think that it is best suitable for the pregnant ladies
the models so suit with the clothes. I really like the clothes... so cute, so beautiful, so nice... honestly like it!
how do you get this clothes so beautiful looks? like like like... I really like it!
Thanks for sharing this great post. According to my opinion, maternity maxi dresses are comfortable for pregnant women. Maternity maxi dresses are great for combining style and comfort as well as looking ultra glamorous.
