Toby drinks seltzer.

My mom took Toby to a Thai restaurant in Brooklyn, and he tried some seltzer. He didn't know what to make of the bubbles and kind of hated it, but couldn't stop drinking. Ahh, to be a toddler.

P.S. It reminds me of this, but with more hair!

haha...when my brother was younger he accidentally pushed 'soda water' instead of 'water' in the soda machine, and when he took a gulp he spit the soda water out all over the floor of the restaurant!! he is 17 and still LOATHES soda!!

ps: toby is getting so big!! he is just beautiful.

My son is the very same - I can't get enough of his disgusted little face when he takes a sip, and then his request for more as soon as he's got the first vile mouthful down. Funny little creatures.

Toby is getting cutter everyday! He's becoming a very handsome young man! I bet you have all the girls in the neighbourwood knocking at your door... ;-)

Ha, cuteness! My son does the same thing. I can't get enough of his expressions when he drinks 'bubble water'

He is such a cutie!

This sort of reminds me of a time when I wasn't the best older sister. While baby-sitting my brother when he was a toddler I gave him a sip of straight lemon juice -- just to see how he'd react. Luckily he's forgotten it, so he doesn't hold it against me. I've tried to make up for my shortcomings since then.

hahaa! when we were little my grandfather used to give us lemon slices (from the water glasses) when we were out to dinner, then laugh and laugh at our sour faces :)

diana, that's hilarious:)

my sister and i used to drink my grandpa's tonic water when we were little. we called it "grandpa pop"
(is that the one in park slope? loved that place! i lived there while i was pregnant.) x

Jill GG (good life for less) said...

so cute! My kids rarely drink pop, but when they do they always refer to it as "spicy" - they must think that the bubbles feel spicy on their tongues!

Ooh, so cute!! I'm 28 and I still don't really drink soda because of the bubbles :-S

omg...lucia ONLY drinks seltzer. She loves it. I mix it with regular water bc the burps are out of control but otherwise she drinks it straight up.

Seltzer is my favorite drink! Always has been, and I'm sure my mom has pictures of me somewhere at Toby's age making the same face. He is just so gorgeous, Joanna! What a little ladies man he's going to be.

My 2 yr old son loves sparkling water! We get the stuff from Trader Joes. It has to be lime flavor. He calls it "char char". Every morning I hear "mommy can we go in the leeeeving room and have char char".

So cute :) My daughter likes to put her nose in the glass and feel the fizziness.

...also, poop faces:) any parent or babysitter will know what i'm talking about! :)

My daughter did the SAME thing will lemon water. She couldn't decide if she loved or hated it but, either way, she couldn't stop drinking it. Adorable.

Haha, bless his cottons. Jill's comment about fizzy drinks being spicy reminded me of a little boy's impression of soda when I went to France last year. He described the experience as 'ca pique, ca!' which means 'stings' (like a bee). It's funny how different nationalities (or possibly just different individuals) perceive different sensations.

I heard children need to taste something about 30 times before they get used to it, so I imagine you have a few funny faces yet to come!

I'm not a mother or a babysitter but I DEFINITELY know the poop face. Oh, the concentration...

love seltzer with apple and cranberry juices.
there are times when kids will try what adults have, whether they like it or not. way back when, I told my toddler yogurt is ice cream after he made a spit it out sour face. Classic well all righty then look on his face when I told him it was ice cream. He loves yogurt.

So, cute. This age is really funny. My almost 18 mo old, Odin does the same thing with things like cottage cheese and anything with texture. He likes it but makes those yucky faces as he asks for more. kookoo but cute. I'll have to try seltzer next time we're out.

The faces they make are pretty funny when trying new food and drinks! I took some photos of my grandson trying spaghetti for the first time. he looked like he was in pain but kept eating it. You can see the pics here: http://thedandybohemian.blogspot.com/2011/10/no-tell-me-how-you-really-feel-about-my.html?utm_source=BP_recent

Ya, I know, I'm that obnoxious person pulling a string of photos out of my wallet to show anyone who will look. :/

I just love his face in these pictures!! Haha, and I am drinking some raspberry seltzer water as I type this. Delicious!

My son tried some of my boyfriend's ginger ale last week and he hated it, but his face was priceless. I'm glad he didn't like it though, I'm trying to raise him soda free.

This is unbearably - look at that little face!

I love how he is totally bemused and unsure he likes it, but is still reaching for more!

I love this -- especially the first picture; nothing is curious like a small child. Plus, god-bless grandparents, right, whose job it is to give children foods their parents might not otherwise thing to give them. (Fruit leather for a snack at 7:30PM anyone?)

Mine also doesn't like anything with bubbles but he LOVES ice. Truly. He thinks ice is amazing and wants more than anything to crunch it. I do my best to keep it away from him but. . .my mother taught him to use the ice maker in her fridge . . .love it. Enjoy your snowy weekend, how exciting, first snow of winter!

I love seeing babies experience sensations we take for granted. I'll never forget babysitting my cousin when she tried spicy food for the first time. She was beside herself!

I still can't get over how gorgeous Toby is! He looks so much like you!!!

Alicia said...

I can't believe how fast he is growing! That's one of the funnest things about having a baby is watching them take that first taste of something. You can't buy that kind of laughter and joy!

Kathleen said...

Ha! He's too cute.
My son did the same thing with my drink once and now loves San Pellegrino. Want to get weird looks? Give your toddler sparkling water in public.

abigail said...

ha ha ha, sooo true- to be a toddler! Our daughter is the same way (just turned 1 yesterday!)- it's almost masochistic the way they keep going back for more!

She desperately wants to play with the ice in our glass but then when she gets a hold of it she freaks out, but wants to go back for more- too irresistible!

It kills me how much he looks like Alex. He looks like you too, of course, though my husband has a theory that you don't actually exist -- you're really a fat Hispanic guy blogging anonymously from Queens.

I hate seltzer and I keep taking sips of it. The face Toby is making is totally the face I make :) And I don't have the ability to blame my behaviour on being a toddler hehe

What a matter of fact little man!

He's like, and I'll be happy to take a spot of tea next, with a crumpet, if you please!

I was eating lemon rind from iced tea in a restaurant once and my two year old nephew watched with fascination. He had to try them too, and did and made the most hilarious faces which I recorded. He couldn't stop himself, though, even if it bothered him. He kept trying as if he expected it to taste different. I wish we could remember our own experiencces like this!

These photos are too cute!! :) My mom once told me a funny story of when I drank out of a straw for the first time. We were in a restaurant, and I took a sip and just had this puzzled look on my face like "what did I just do?"

It's neat to see them experience things for the first time!

Toby looks SO MUCH like Alex in these pictures! My toddler doesn't get fizzy drinks either, when he asks we tell him, "you don't like Mama's drink, its spicy"

and then he takes a drink and makes his crazy face.

"see, too spicy."
