Summer love.
"Do you think I'm wonderful? she asked him one day as they leaned against the trunk of a petrified maple. No, he said. Why? Because so many girls are wonderful. I imagine hundreds of men have called their loves wonderful today, and it's only noon. You couldn't be something that hundreds of others are."

SUCH an amazing book! Loved.
''Love is the illusion that one woman differs from another.'' - H.L. Mencken
*ducks*
swooning over this one :)
One of my all-time favorite books... Everything Foer writes is so lovely.
ooh, ginny, it sounds amazing.
haha, nick, i know you're a romantic at heart!!
Gosh, am I ever. The quote in the post is diametrically opposed to Mencken's so I couldn't help but have it pop into my head. It felt like I was reading the same quote... in bizarro world!
Sorry to rain on the parade but as Paulo Coelho said in 11 minutes (well techinally Maria):
“In love, no one can harm anyone else; we are each of us responsible for our own feeling and cannot blame someone else for what we feel.”
“Love is not to be found in someone else, but in ourselves; we simply awaken it. But in order to do that, we need the other person. The universe only makes sense when we have someone to share our feelings with.”
beautiful!
Love this!
This is such a wonderful quote. The book must be great.
Where is the photo from?
How I love that book and what a great reminder. Thank you. The film is my husbands favorite!
Ohhh.. I'm in need of a good book. One that I don't have to write a paper on (English major here), but can simply breathe in and enjoy like a fine wine. This may go on my Christmas wish list (Is it really that time again?).
I love Jonathan Safran Foer. One of my favorite writers!
I am sucker for the lovey dovey stuff of the world. Gotta read this book :)
What a find!! Beautiful.
*swoon
AH! My heart just melted. That is a keeper. It should be framed.
Just a Silhouette
I am so pumped about Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close the movie!!! that's one of my favorite books. I'm also a huge fan of his wife. History of Love....amazing.
Love that quote! Sounds like a lovely book....can't wait to read it.
I watched this movie,, and it felt very tragic. perhaps I should revisit the story?
Beautiful quote and I still haven't read that book and clearly must!! I find that I have less and less reading time now that I am a mom (and must make more time!)
ahhh! what a sweet, sweet, presh quote! perfect!
xo
Beautiful. This book has been on my list to read for a while now. It waits for me patiently. :) Love the photo, too.
so lovely
i wish i knew who took the photo -- i've seen it around the web -- it's mick jagger xo
This is a beauty. Did you know that his other book, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, has been made into a movie -has this been mentioned already in these comments? It's always tricky watching a movie from a book that has been well loved- but they did a lovely job with Everything is Illuminated. I'm hopeful that with Tom Hanks in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close it will be worth the transition from book to movie!
Oh, so lovely!

I just picked this book up from the library!! So excited to read it. Since Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is my all-time favorite book, I have very high hopes.
This is just one of my favourite books of all time. So funny and heartbreaking and perfect. Thanks for the reminder.
This is just what I needed to read this morning. I'm waiting for my sister to finish reading this book so I can start. Now I'm really looking forward to it!
Really, though, who cares if "hundreds of men" have called just as many loves "wonderful"? The question is, "Do *you* think I'm wonderful?" Who cares about the other hundreds of men, because I'm sure they don't think she's "wonderful," they think their individual loves are. I'm all about tone and emphasis here...like the Seinfeld episode "Why would Jerry bring anything"? :)
Felt like sharing the thoughts that were sparked because of this post...
My last love had a way of making me feel like the only woman in the world. I enjoy this quote and it makes me think of the importance of the way someone tells us they think we are wonderful, more than the particular words they use.
Even if the love with that person is not meant to last forever, the way that you felt will stay with you.
As love passes, hold onto the moments where you felt wonderful, beautiful, and as if you were the only girl in the world. Maybe that love is in the past, but don't fret, it will come again. Carry on with hope paired with confidence and a deep inner love for yourself.
passed out with my heart melted
Love this book! This was my favorite quote from the book:
“I love you also means I love you more than anyone loves you, or has loved you, or will love you, and also, I love you in a way that no one loves you, or has loved you, or will love you, and also, I love you in a way that I love no one else, and never have loved anyone else, and never will love anyone else.”
LOVE! I just bought this book, and can't wait to start it!
Love this!
i am dying to read this book!
That was such a great book! I loved it and a smile came over my face just now to see you post a lovely quote :)

Mick Jagger & Marianne Faithful, who's quite a formidable lady..x
My favorite book in the world :) thank you!
Great quotation from a fantastic author!
I love Everything Is Illuminated! I read it last winter, and it was my favorite book I read all year. And I'm kind of surprised, I actually remembered where the quote was from, before I saw it written below. Such a sweet thing to say, because we're not all the same.
*swoon* i need to read this...stat :)
This just reminded me why that is my favorite book. Thank you :)
oh my heart... i must read this book
How sweet. I imagine that's something my boyfriend would say to me; he'd make me think, at first, that he doesn't think I'm wonderful ,but then he'd make me feel even more special than that :)
What about you? Is that how your husband is?
thanks so much for posting this. so many pages of my copy of 'everything is illuminated' are ear-marked, this passage is particularly touching. i've also earmarked half of my copy of 'the history of love' :)
the best book of all time. my favorite author. every page is full of words you need to press to your heart to make sure they stay with you forever.

Summer lovin had me a blast...."
