Have a fun weekend.

My sweets, what are you doing this weekend? Alex and I are heading off on our first trip without Toby--just for two nights. I'm really excited for some grown-up time (and cocktails), but just hope our little bunny doesn't miss me as much as I'll miss him! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and here are a few great links from around the web...

(Good) Will Hunting has a way with words.

Bill Cunningham seems like a truly sweet person.

The perfect sweater.

What is it about white fairy lights?

Genius Halloween costume: A pinata with a black eye!

Awww, the little darlings.

Oh, baby!

Beautiful bathrooms.

How adorable are these dancing models?

Biking with no hands!

This story broke my heart. What an amazing woman.

  10. Have fun on your trip! Up ya that's probably the best Halloween costume ever. Right after the DIY wind up doll for a little girl. I was pretty impressed by that one too.

Everyone should read Emily Rapp's memoir, Poster Child. It's an amazing book. Between the challenges she went through growing up and the painful situation she's in now, this woman deserves a medal for holding it all together.

  17. Have the best time ever! My husband and I are headed to Sundance (maybe we'll see Robert Redford!) on Saturday night while our three year old stays home with his favorite babysitter in the world. I am so excited to see the changing leaves, drink wine and sleep until 8.00. (I know! 8.00!)

Reading Emily's story about Ronan just broke my heart. My boyfriend and I are Jewish, and it's scary to think about one day having children, since we are more likely carriers of Tay-Sachs. What a dreadful disease.

Thank you for sharing the link Joanna. Have a lovely weekend with Alex!

  46. Today I heard about a little boy I know who has been diagnosed with leukemia, and now I read Emily Rapp's article... It makes me so sad for the children and their families. I wish there was something I could do, other than to keep them in my thoughts.. Enjoy your weekend Joanna, and when you get back, hold your son and be thankful. I'll be doing the same thing when my baby girl wakes up tomorrow morning.

  47. I definitely need to buy some new sweaters. Even though I've been living in the Midwest (after moving from Texas) for 3 years, I think I'm still kind of in denial about it because I really only have a few cozy, casual sweaters for the weekend.

  52. WOW, i just read that article about that mom. That was beautiful.
I am only 19 years old and i have to say that when the time comes to raise my children i am going to strive to be like her. To just focus on loving your children, and leaving all that extra stuff out, and just giving your undivided love and attention to them. This story is a great reminder to everyone to live in the moment, and cherish each and every second. Because thats exactly what she is doing.

    Thank you for sharing!
    Megan

PS i love the new article series, i'll be looking forward to it every week. I thought this weeks article was also very inspiring and beautiful, and i have bookmarked it.

  55. I peeked through your list of cute links and felt inspired, as usual. But the final link to the Rapp article placed things into tremendous perspective. Her words are a simple testament to life and love and, of course, the core of strength. My nephew has cystic fibrosis and, with this, his parents, his brother, his grandparents, his aunts and uncles, his friends, they are all faced with a similar grasping at any hope, but mostly an appreciation for him and his life. As he matures, how will he-emotionally- face his shorter life expectancy? No matter, like Ms. Rapp (am I remembering her name right?), we are so incredibly blessed and our lives so much more filled with purpose because of them. In the end, we are lucky to have known their full love. And I guess that is really pretty exceptional, in and of itself.
Anyhow, enjoy a lovely weekend with your husband and maybe give Toby a whole bunch of extra smooches so he can ration them throughout the weekend!
