My sweets, what are you doing this weekend? Alex and I are heading off on our first trip without Toby--just for two nights. I'm really excited for some grown-up time (and cocktails), but just hope our little bunny doesn't miss me as much as I'll miss him! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and here are a few great links from around the web...(Good) Will Hunting has a way with words.
Bill Cunningham seems like a truly sweet person.
The perfect sweater.
What is it about white fairy lights?
Genius Halloween costume: A pinata with a black eye!
Awww, the little darlings.
Oh, baby!
Beautiful bathrooms.
How adorable are these dancing models?
Biking with no hands!
This story broke my heart. What an amazing woman.

ReplyDeleteI'll be trying to get over this pneumonia that has taken over my lungs the last few days! Horrible. But I'm on the mend, I can feel it!!
Aww, I hope you and Alex have a wonderful weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI'll be selling my wares at a craft show tomorrow, then hopefully spending all day Sunday lounging around and reading. :-)
Cool! You guys enjoy yourselves! Toby might get in some partying himself, lol.
ReplyDeleteI got dinner planned for tomorrow night. This restaurant here in Freeport named Pisces. Can't wait.

Thank you for sharing that story about the Dragon Mom...it literally brought me to tears. Although I do not have a child of my own yet...this story resonates deeply with me. Nothing is guaranteed in life...it's better just to love today.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend away!
Bubbs...
So fun that the two of you get to getaway and have some time alone! Do enjoy! I have a friend coming in town - so excited to get to see him!
ReplyDeleteEveryone should read Emily Rapp's memoir, Poster Child. It's an amazing book. Between the challenges she went through growing up and the painful situation she's in now, this woman deserves a medal for holding it all together.
ReplyDeleteWeekends away are the best! We are heding out of town as well to tailgate and go to the Iowa football game :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good one!
oh, my goodness.
ReplyDeletethat article was something to read. i think the only thing to help me recover is to reread the comments about first kisses.
jeesh. that was rough to read. what a beautiful soul.
p.s. have fun!
Ohh enjoy the precious time with Alex! :)
ReplyDeleteWe will be continuing to train our newer pup, Zepp (as that is our resolution this week: http://wwwfrozensunshine.blogspot.com/2011/10/first-meat-and-next-weeks-resolution.html) and we are going to head to Fort Collins for a Zombie Crawl!!! Should be lots of laughs and fun!
HAPPY, HAPPY WEEKEND!!!
Have the best time ever! My husband and I are headed to Sundance (maybe we'll see Robert Redford!) on Saturday night while our three year old stays home with his favorite babysitter in the world. I am so excited to see the changing leaves, drink wine and sleep until 8.00. (I know! 8.00!)
ReplyDeleteReading Emily's story about Ronan just broke my heart. My boyfriend and I are Jewish, and it's scary to think about one day having children, since we are more likely carriers of Tay-Sachs. What a dreadful disease.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the link Joanna. Have a lovely weekend with Alex!
Have fun with your first weekend away with Toby! Can't wait to here about it!
ReplyDeleteenjoy your weekend ,Jo :)

Enjoy your weekend away Joanna! And thank you for sharing that article - truly heartbreaking - I cannot imagine it.
ReplyDeleteI cried after reading that story. My heart bleeds for her. What a beautiful photo of the two of them.
ReplyDeleteEmily Rapp's article made me realize just how much I take for granted. Tears welled up as I read it. What a strong and courageous woman.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Joanna!
Have a wonderful weekend away!
Dragon Mom is one brave woman. And to share her story with the world...helps us all be reminded of our humanity. We take so much for granted.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time!!! Hope you share some pictures!
ReplyDeletewhite fairy lights....will always be a part of my room. and when i get to old for that, they will be a part of my kids' room.
ReplyDeletelol I played with the Jcrew dancing models for a good 10 minutes yesterday.

I would love to have a drink with Bill Cunningham. He is an institution.
ReplyDeleteWow, Emily's article was hard to read but also one of those things everyone should have to. (Not easy but full of truth that deserves to be heard.) What an amazing photo of her with her precious son.

I have tears in my eyes after reading that article. Thank you for pointing me to it. What an amazing woman.
ReplyDeleteOh Joanna, I didn't want to read that article but I am so glad I did. She is an amazing woman!!! The bad day I had with my son seems so ridiculous now. I wish I could go get in his crib with him and cuddle during his nap. Thank you for sharing that.
ReplyDeletei love the white fairy lights, the pinata costumes, and the dancing models! have a GREAT weekend! oh, and have fun with your hubby and those cocktails!

ReplyDeleteHave soooo much fun this weekend!! Relax and enjoy reading that magazine with no interruptions;-) You will come home and have a ton of patience with little Toby bc you've been away. It will make you long for more hubby/wife vaca's after you break this ice;-) Happy for you.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, time will fly by - happy mommy = happy baby!
ReplyDeleteI love Bill Cunningham and the way he calls everyone "child". I've been fortunate to work with him on numerous occasions and I just find him fascinating. :)
ReplyDeleteWow. how beautiful although sad. thanks for sharing that article joanna.
ReplyDeleteToday I heard about a little boy I know who has been diagnosed with leukemia, and now I read Emily Rapp's article... It makes me so sad for the children and their families. I wish there was something I could do, other than to keep them in my thoughts.. Enjoy your weekend Joanna, and when you get back, hold your son and be thankful. I'll be doing the same thing when my baby girl wakes up tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to buy some new sweaters. Even though I've been living in the Midwest (after moving from Texas) for 3 years, I think I'm still kind of in denial about it because I really only have a few cozy, casual sweaters for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!!!

I came across Emily Rapp's article earlier today - so sad and beautiful at the same time. I lost my son last year after he and his twin brother were born premature. Definitely makes you take a hard look at what it means to be a parent. Thank you for sharing these great links, as always.
ReplyDeletethe photo of the kids diving is also hanging on the wall in one of the bathrooms in the link you posted! so trippy! did you do that on purpose?!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend is my birthday and so my family and I are going to chinatown in london for dinner :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your getaway!
WOW, i just read that article about that mom. That was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am only 19 years old and i have to say that when the time comes to raise my children i am going to strive to be like her. To just focus on loving your children, and leaving all that extra stuff out, and just giving your undivided love and attention to them. This story is a great reminder to everyone to live in the moment, and cherish each and every second. Because thats exactly what she is doing.
Thank you for sharing!
Megan
PS i love the new article series, i'll be looking forward to it every week. I thought this weeks article was also very inspiring and beautiful, and i have bookmarked it.
I hope you have a great weekend and completely forget all about your little darling. Oops....if you do, I bet no. 2 darling will happen :)

I wanted to know, since you linked to the quote from Good Will Hunting, if you are a supporter of unschooling? Is it something you are thinking for Toby? Please do a motherhood monday post on it! I would love to know!

I peeked through your list of cute links and felt inspired, as usual. But the final link to the Rapp article placed things into tremendous perspective. Her words are a simple testament to life and love and, of course, the core of strength. My nephew has cystic fibrosis and, with this, his parents, his brother, his grandparents, his aunts and uncles, his friends, they are all faced with a similar grasping at any hope, but mostly an appreciation for him and his life. As he matures, how will he-emotionally- face his shorter life expectancy? No matter, like Ms. Rapp (am I remembering her name right?), we are so incredibly blessed and our lives so much more filled with purpose because of them. In the end, we are lucky to have known their full love. And I guess that is really pretty exceptional, in and of itself.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, enjoy a lovely weekend with your husband and maybe give Toby a whole bunch of extra smooches so he can ration them throughout the weekend!
I watched the Bill Cunningham movie this week - it is truly amazing. ANd sort of broke my heart,'
ReplyDeleteWhoa, that article was deeply touching and terrifying. That mom is truly amazing and has a heart of gold.
ReplyDeleteI am so sensitive to the idea of losing my son for some unexplainable reason. I don't have any reason for this but don't take a minute for granted with him. This article really tore me apart. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteI adore twinkle lights too.

"Parenting, I’ve come to understand, is about loving my child today. Now. In fact, for any parent, anywhere, that’s all there is".
ReplyDeleteI can't get these words of my mind! What a punch in the stomach this story! couldn't help sharing it in my blog...
Hope you had a wonderfull grown up weekend, and that Toby didn't miss you and Alex that much... xo
This past weekend was spent reading a new book, in a secluded cabin heated by a crackling fire on a foggy PNW beach. It was total perfection.
