Haiku for the Single Girl

The genius new book Haiku for the Single Girl made me laugh out loud. Each page features a haiku and illustration about real life when you're single.

"A woman never forgets what it's like to be single," says the author Beth Griffinhagen, who is a single New Yorker. "In different moments she may feel joyful and free, desperate and without options, amused, and frequently hopeful." Yes, don't you agree?

  12. I actually got off the the bus last night, bag of cool ranch doritos in hand, leaving finger prints of dorito dust in my wake. I think I've gotten over the embarrassment phase, and am slowly making my way into acceptance. Glad to know others have felt the same!

  25. Oh Jo! Thank you for always coming through for us single girls! Seriously your range of topics satisfies all your readers and as a single girl myself, I ALWAYS appreciate you! Posts like this help me find humor and happiness in my single-ness. I wouldn't trade it for the world! I've been single all summer after a 3 year relationship, very hard. I'm chopping my hair off this morning and going to rock a new A-line cut because it's liberating and despite studies that show men aren't into short hair, I'm doing it! This is what I needed this morning to make me go full force with my new hairdo. I'm single and can do whatever I please :) Thank you!

  36. Thanks for posting this- it really is nice that you remember us single girls out there! I've got to admit, my experience with friends has been that as soon as you're in a relationship, you forget the single life.

I blog a bit about single life (amongst other things) and always worry I sound too whiny so it's nice to see someone dealing with the horrible truths of it all with humour!

  49. hilarious, the last comic reminds me of my friend who went as something really fun but not attractive to a halloween party- she showed up and all the other girls were dressed super slutty, lol. needless to say the night quickly disolved from there. It didn't help that it was a work party! those are the worst!

  51. P.S. On the same note, I saw a clip on Oprah.com with Steve Harvey he wrote a book about guys and their perspective on a lot of things. It seems really good. I'm going to check it out. It's really honest. Which I need, bcs. I get really confused on what guys need. And I'm tired of only serving myself.

  59. My single girl days are behind me, but I thoroughly enjoyed every page of Haiku for the Single Girl. These poems are funny, sexy, and sad--often all at once--in just 17 syllables. The charming illustrations make this book even more personal, yet somehow also universal. A great gift for single sisters who need a boost, and for married girlfriends who need a chuckle. Well done!
