Vintage engagement rings

Oh lordy, I just came across this etsy shop with the most beautiful vintage engagement rings, many from the 1920's. The mindblowing part: Most are below $250! Aren't they beautiful?! That bow ring is simply perfect.

P.S. Six simple wedding rings...

my husband got me a vintage engagement ring, and i love it much more than any of the new ones he looked at, both because, why spend so much money on a piece of jewelry, and also because it's fun to imagine the life it had before me!

Ah, I love vintage everything. These are so glamorous. My sister inherited my grandmother's engagement ring from the 1930s. It's a collection of 3 diamonds given to my grandmother by 3 special women in her life at the time, and it's just gorgeous. Elegant, yet still delicate and tasteful. They new how to work it back then.

Thanks for sharing!

I talked a friend into a similar ring to those in the etsy shop about 15 years ago. In a pawn shop in DC. Everyone thought I was nuts. It's the coolest ring & she was so happy w/it once we got it polished. No one has a ring like hers ... well, in the near vicinity. I'd forgotten until you posted this. I am now lusting for an engagement ring w/no one new in sight. I may have to get one anyway.;)

im swooning! I love the bow ring!

Mrs. T said...

I went to the shop to look for the bow ring (I can buy myself my own engagement ring, even though I'm already married, RIGHT?! ha) and it's gone!! :(

Giulia said...

Well, that sounded odd (above). I talked a friend into it for her marriage. Her fiance thought I was nuts. Is that clearer? I did not marry her. (Though there's nothing wrong with that:)

I love the idea of a vintage ring! Engagement or wedding. Why not? If the ring is stunning and totally what you're looking for..?!

I once saw 'rich bride, poor bride' and the groom said he didn't want a vintage ring to not have the karma of the ring cast a spell over their marriage (and they would perhaps end in divorce).
I thought it was a bit weird to think such a thing, but hey: everyone has it's own opinions on these subjects.

Love,
Nancy

I love the bow ring as well, I also went to the store to look for it, but it was gone. Tragic. Someone would make a killing reproducing rings like this.

Also, I found my PERFECT engagement ring at Doyle & Doyle online, simply by chance, as I was perusing jewellery. It makes me very sad that I'll never own it, because it's vintage and probably sold by now, and I don't think I'm about to get engaged. (Does this make me sound like a crazy marriage-obsessed girl? Because I'm not. Promise. It was just super gorgeous.)

What a great idea, so classy :) I adore that bow ring!

Tragic Sandwich said...

Lovely! My own engagement ring is an antique; my husband's grandfather gave it to his wife as an anniversary gift. I has decided that I didn't want an engagement ring--I would just wear a wedding band after we got married. But when Mr. Sandwich proposed, he held out this one, and it was the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. I love wearing it for its unique design and family history!

Kate said...

I am married but trying to justify getting more rings... maybe one for every child born? Then each son or daughter someday gets one of mom's rings? mmm...love it. Thanks for your blog. You have the best taste in everything.

p.s. I just started a blog 3 wks ago about marriage, divorce, & infertility: www.ablogaboutlove.com. I was lucky enough to have REDBOOK magazine track me down because of a comment that I left on YOUR BLOG!! They loved my blog and wanted me to be in a new infertility campaign they just launched online. I am thrilled about this as it is my goal to send a positive message of hope to as many women as I can. Anyway, a BIG THANK YOU to you for being the connection that helped make this happen! It means the world.

My story is the same is Anna's - we were fairly young, very broke, and my husband knew from a stash of cheap vintage costume jewelry that vintage was the way to my heart. He found a gorgeous vintage (antique?) ring in a jewelry shop that sold custom, antique and vintage jewelry. The shop owner asked if it was an engagement ring - when my husband said yes, the guy suggested that he consider having a replica made because the setting on antique rings can be weak for everyday wear. So I have an exact replica of a 1920's European deco style ring with a hexagon filigree setting, and I absolutely adore it! But that doesn't stop me from coveting the rings in this Etsy shop...

That shop is awesome!!! My engagement ring isn't actually vintage, but it has a vintage look about it, and it was less than $300. I wasn't comfortable wearing something super expensive, so I'm glad my husband was on board with the unique but modest approach to ring-buying. :-)

My husband gave a vintage ring that was his mother's. It is very simple, pearl and diamond, but I couldn't love it more! Also, I found vintage jewellery much more "wearable" and delicate that modern rings.

fleur_delicious said...

incredible! This is the kind of thing we were looking for, but when it came time to finally find a ring, we couldn't find nice dainty ones like this at estate sales anymore - only massive hulking pieces of platinum (SO not for me). Instead, we had a ring made by Kate Szabone - which is gorgeous, really, I wouldn't change a thing.

Still, I sent the link to my husband - maybe he'll think about getting me something sparkly for yuletide this year! ;)

My husband went to a vintage fair with me when we were still dating and actually paid attention to me telling me I wanted a vintage ring. He went back later the same day and picked out one I commented on! Not only is the most unique gorgeous ring ever(not that I'm biased) it also was much more affordable newer engagement rings. They just don't make rings with that sort of heirloom quality like they used to. I love thinking of a beautiful back story for whoever loved my ring before I did.
