Beachy day
Toby and I are playing hooky for the rest of the week and heading to Fire Island with these guys. We're excited to nap on the beach and maybe grill some burgers. I have more posts coming up, if you're in a blog reading mood. :) xoxo P.S. Have you ever been to Fire Island?

I've never been but it looks like the perfect place for a bit of sunshine and relaxation-- reminds me a bit of the Outer Banks (which also happens to be my favorite place in the world). Have a blast! Does Toby love the ocean yet? :)

Fire Island is amazing! I stayed out there for a few days for a friend's wedding on the beach. Have fun!

Yes, Point O'Woods. I loved Fire Island and being roused by the kids at 5:30 am to dig gigantic sand castle moats with the garden shovels for the kids 20 yrs ago. Enjoy.

I have so many happy memories of Fire Island! Last trip there was 4 summers ago. I miss it.I wear my navy Blue Fire island baseball hat proudly:)) love all the wagons at the dock.

Yes & it's delightful! I used to own a home with an ex on Cherry Grove & we spent as often as possible there. Even Thanksgiving once! I love that there were no cars where we were. You should check out Sunken Forest. I used to jog through there. There is plenty of shade also. Enjoy. Now I wish I was there. I did make it back there last year though:)

I have never been to Fire Island but I lived for a few years in Bay Shore, where the ferries leave. I remember dreading Friday nights in the summer and trying to get home on the LIRR with all the folks heading for the ferry!
Alas, "Fire Island" for me means Standing Room Only, Bags of Groceries on a Crowded Train and Tiny Pups in Handbags :)I have heard it's a great place though!
I essentially grew up on Fire Island! I spent nearly all summer every summer going to the beach! I'm so happy you and Toby are going to be spending time there! The best hot pink sunsets ever!!
I love Fire Island! Even the boat ride out there! It feels so far from the city and so old fashioned :) It's just so lovely. I still have some adorable hand painted shells that I bought from some little girls a few years ago. Great memories! Ah, how I miss living in nyc!! Have so much fun! It really is a true escape!

Love Fire Island! It is so charming, and I love that it is only 1/4 or 1/2 mile wide--makes you feel like you can go anywhere in no time. You and Toby will have the best time!
my sister goes to fire island all the time! we hope when we visit from ca that we can go there too....for now we have a beach in san luis obispo just a few minutes away! btw happy anniversary...ours is the day after yours, but we're one year ahead! your toby and my stella would make great little pals!
I spent all my summers growing up on Fire Island and my parents live there now from May until October. Ocean Beach is where they live. Enjoy it-if you get a chance check out the Sunken Forest. It's truly a magical place to explore!

I love fire island! I live in San Francisco, but my grandmother has a house there. It is the best place ever to ride bikes (especially in the boardwalk parts where no cars are allowed) and to pick and eat blueberries! Have fun!
Fire Island is wonderful! I went 5 years ago to Kismet. Beautiful beach, & they had artist stands set up down by the dock. Have fun!
playing hookey is such a great expression! In Australia we said 'wagging' which has none of the romance! Have a super time.

thanks for these lovely comments! we had the BEST time! we stayed in dunewood, which is near fair harbor -- soooooo lovely without cars and just with bikes and red wagons! we adored it. a little ice cream shop, a pizza place, utterly charming :) can't wait to go back!
I've never been to Fire Island, but it totally reminds me of the story that David Sedaris wrote about it (I think it was Fire Island). Have you read it? It's so hilarious! Hope you had fun at the beach!
