Have a relaxing weekend.

My lovelies, what are you up to this weekend? Alex and my second wedding anniversary is coming up, so I'm excited to announce that next week's posts will be all about relationships--first dates, breakups, proposals, weddings and all things smoochy. (Just thought it might be fun!) Meanwhile, have a great weekend, and here are a few great posts from around the web...

LOVE this quote.

Jenna Lyons is a genius.

These family panoramas are amazing! (Look closely!)

A shirt that a French girl would wear.

Fascinating article about quitting your job to follow your dreams (written by Alex, yay:)

Yes, you can probably find a piece of pizza in NYC.

The 10 hilarious laws of parenting.

  5. Oh, I love that ASOS blouse! Have you seen the Mad Men collection at Banana Republic? They have a pussybow blouse that looks like Joan Holloway forgot it at the dry cleaners.

And I did send that tumblr link to my boyfriend, thanks for the cute link.

  9. I had a lobster roll at Pearl Oyster Bar this summer with my two daughters. It was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! Blythe Danner was there, too, which was nice as I went on a recommendation from Gwyneth on GOOP.
What a treasure that picture is for you. I miss my kids being babies...on occasion!

  16. What a fun quote from Emma Thompson! I used to have the biggest girlcrush on her after I read "The Sense & Sensibility Screenplay and Diaries." Have to thank you for the tipoff on the Jenna Lyons piece; she mentions Egon Schiele in it and I'm writing my master's thesis on him.

AND...tomorrow I plan to check out PUBLIC Bikes' end-of-summer warehouse sale (after seeing your blog post on your new bike, I went and checked out the site and realized it was pretty much everything I didn't know I wanted; plus several friends and coworkers have and *love* their PUBLIC bikes) and eating well at the SF Street Food Festival.

  20. I love your friday posts! AND, too funny: I was just walked up from my house in Santa Monica to get a cup of coffee and was asked by a woman where a good pizza place was. Although I am very familiar with the area I couldn't think of one place so I looked it up on my phone's google map for her and there wasn't one nearby. I should have told to her to go to Manhattan. :)

  29. Jo, you always make me happy... I hope to have a nice weekend, only something is eating at me:

I feel like I need to do whatever I can to encourage bloggers to raise attention to Somalia. Over 3 million people are expected to die in the next weeks if they don’t start receiving aid. I know that it’s not topical to your blog but I know you have an immense following and you could help greatly by having a link to the Red Cross or UN or whatever organization you prefer. Just a suggestion… have a great weekend!

  30. Go for lobster! You won't regret it! I went to Luke's Lobster downtown a couple of weeks ago...absolutely delicious! You reminded me to post about it on my blog today.

  45. Wow... I love that comment, too! It's so soothing to my hyperactive nerves. I don't know where we... as women... got the idea that we must have it all. Talk about pressure! Makes being a man look so easy!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Love the photo!!!!! It´s gorgeous Joanna!!! And both of you in style!

    ReplyDelete
  47. One: That photo of you and Toby is extraordinarily beautiful.

Two: Alex's article is right on. After teaching art for several years, I got the push of encouragement from my husband to go full time with my jewelry business... which has, these days, turned into mostly bridal accessories and whatnot. And, I'll tell you something, it is not an easy task to run your own business successfully. Whenever I hear people say that they want to start their own business because they want more flexibility and more free time, I have to cringe just a bit. But I always always encourage them and I'll tell you why... I work non-stop and use up every inch of my work ethic on a daily basis, BUT designing and constructing things out of wonderful materials (in between the bulk of the more business oriented tasks), connecting with customers and being able to expand my business in the way it has, makes it all totally worth it. No kidding. Doubly full time or not, it's worth it. The one thing my husband (also a small business owner)said to me at one of my lowest points has stuck with me. It's this: The difference between those who succeed and those who fail is that those who succeed just never quit. So I don't quit and I'm sure glad I didn't. (And that's my story. Thanks to Alex for writing another great article.)
    and then...
Three: Those split photos of relatives are fascinating! I feel like I just want to repeatedly go back and dissect every detail of their face comparisons. So darn neat.
Have a fun weekend. Thank you for another week of lovely posts.
