Leave it to the Dutch to install a slide in a subway station. Commuters are encouraged to use it if they're running late, and the official name is a "transfer accelerator." At night they play Bach. How rad is that?!P.S. How long is your commute?

That is so awesome! Are you allowed to wear skirts? Haha!
ReplyDeleteHahha...that is FUN! Things like that totally make my days so much better. Kisses
ReplyDeleteUgh. I need to move there. They have too many cool things.
ReplyDeleteha ha JO what a fabulous idea, I would use that every day just for a smile on the way to the city to work xx everything should be fun dont you think? have a great week xx A
ReplyDeleteI love a little whimsy in my day. How fun! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! What a fabulous idea..
ReplyDeletepeople are amazing. i love great ideas like that! we need more slides in our lives. don't you think we'd be happier to get on the subway?
ReplyDeleteThey should look into installing those in various subways here in NY. It would make the hassle of the metro that much easier/fun. Especially for the kiddos!
ReplyDeleteHa! Leave it to the Dutch to to this, of course.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try it!
Hope you're enjoying a wonderful NYC summer!

lux, haha, agreed!!! and kersey, you're SO right, this would make it 1 million times easier to take the subway with little dudes.
ReplyDeleteThey just need to add some water to it and it would be perfect : )
ReplyDeletehaha this is amazing!! this needs to happen in every subway station everywhere.

this is seriously incredible. ahh, thanks for sharing Joanna!
ReplyDeleteThis is what every stair case needs! I don't know why there are not more slide opportunities in my life!

Love this!
ReplyDeleteleave it to the dutch indeed!
ReplyDeleteHaha! That is so cool! If it were me though I'd go down it, go back up the stairs and go down again!

We NEED stuff like this in america! Everyone's too uptight here, this will loosen em up! LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not surprised. If there was ever a perfectly good reason to legalize marijuana it would be subway slides. Obviously one begets the other.
ReplyDeleteI'd use it even if I wasn't running late...weeeeee
ReplyDeleteMy first thought "no fair, I want one!" That is too cool! I have a feeling people will use it just because.
ReplyDeleteI can try it - I live nearby, but i don't know if i have the guts haha :D
ReplyDeleteHaha, this is so great! I wonder if one can campaign for them in the States....
ReplyDeletewindeater.blogspot.com
What a great idea!
ReplyDeletesophie, haha, you totally should! :) wish i lived closer so we could go together.
ReplyDeleteThat. Is. Awesome.
ReplyDeletehttp://elizaoverthemoon.blogspot.com
that is so cool! no wonder people there are happier than those in the U.S
ReplyDeleteXo
Amazing! This looks like so much fun.
ReplyDeletehttp://chicgeekery.blogspot.com/
haha that's brilliant! i'd be a little scared my dress would fly up, but i still love it.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME :D
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately my commute is only 13 minutes long.
Awesome. It would be fun to stand there and just watch people going down the slide for a while. I wonder how many adults use it :)
ReplyDeleteHaha cool! But imagine the first person falls at the end and then the next one, and the next one...what a moutain of people we'd have at the end?! :-)
ReplyDeleteOne's got to love the dutch! It'd love to try it!

I predict officially: the Dutch will be the first people to install and implement a "tube" mass transit system.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous.
excuse-a-mi! this is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time! I would just love them in the Lexington Ave F train station!
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch are so practical -- their public health/works/services are based on pragmatism. I wished I still lived there!
ReplyDeleteThis.is.awesome. I'd use it even if I wasn't running late lol!
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome! I love it. I'd use it all the time. I also love the places that have the musical stairs to encourage people to use them more.
ReplyDeleteGosh, if that isn't the COOLEST. How many New Yorkers could use a few of these around the city? xo Lola
ReplyDeleteWe so need this in DC. I'll be first to use it. (I am not kidding.)
ReplyDeletewow, that's the COOLEST! do you know where that is? (and why they are playing bach at night? haha)
ReplyDeleteDUTCH PEOPLE OFFICIALLY RULE!
ReplyDeleteI totally love that! I wonder if it gets a bit crammed? Or if anyone chickens out at the last minute and then causes a minor traffic jam at the top while other subway riders coax him down.
ReplyDeleteI work from home, but my husband's commute is 90 minutes each way!! yuck! (from one end of the DC metro to the other)
that is great. America could never do something like that because DOT would get sued the first day when someone got a little scrape.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the second question...my commute is 15 seconds long. I walk from my bedroom to my office.
Awesome! Penn Station desperately needs one of these!

AHH! That's the coolest thing EVER. How fun!!
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Utrecht (where the slide was built), and I can tell you that that train station really needs some whimsy! So great.
ReplyDeleteProud to be Dutch ;-).
ReplyDelete(Also with that whole gay marriage issue. Altough I hate people actually calling it like that. It's just a marriage people.)
i visited utrecht (the town this is in) for a week and it is awesome! they have tons of public art and their apartments along the streets have big picture windows, like the shops in the west village, so the community can look inside and see their neighbors living "good protestant lives." at least that was their original intention long ago, as it was explained to me. i also remember everyone running and biking to the public athletic fields with their lacrosse sticks early saturday morning. i loved it there. super fun slide installation btw!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to make the commute more fun. Will have to pay a visit someday.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this looks like so much fun! greatest idea ever!
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna
ReplyDeleteHere's an another cool idea : piano stairs ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lXh2n0aPyw
If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much!
ReplyDeleteI think this would encourage me to run stairs for exercise! could you imagine? run up, slide down. run up, slide down. funnest fitness ever!
I just told my bf about this.
ReplyDeleteI said, "There is a slide that you can take to the subway station. It's where Dutch people live at." He said, "Uh huh." I said, "Where do Dutch people live at? Holland? Because there's no such thing as Dutchland, right?"
Oh my my...
What the what!? THAT is the coolest thing I've ever seen! Seriously who are the Dutch!

I want a slide like that! But what would you do if you were running late and wearing a skirt?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this. That is where I'll be going to college in a few weeks, so I will definitely check out that slide!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it, those Dutch! And calling it a transfer acelerator! I wouldn't get on that thing no matter how accelerated I was. But you have to admit, it's a very creative idea. Still laughing.
ReplyDeleteThis is so super! I wish we had them in NY!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Unfortunately, it would never fly in the litigation-crazy US!
ReplyDeleteI love that this is real. so cool!
ReplyDeleteWow... Just Wow!!! x
ReplyDeletehttp://inthisboxofgoodies.blogspot.com/
Sorry for bragging but it's so cool to be Dutch! Great post Joanna, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! Only thing/hot day = hot slide OUCH!
ReplyDeleteHa! I live about three miles from this station and had never heard of the slide. How funny that I learned about it from you, way off in NYC! I think I will hop on my bike this weekend and test it out.
ReplyDeleteUh, probably the best way to re live the playfulness of childhood!

I am Dutch and this was on the news some time ago. They play Bach music to prevent youngsters from hanging around for too long (smoking/drinking/ grafitti spraying) ! Cool huh?
ReplyDeleteOh my - this is so, so rad! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. They need several of these in Seattle.
ReplyDeletethe subway in rio de janeiro also plays classical music! :) the slide is awesome
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, kids would be hogging the slide all day playing on it and no adults would be able to use it.
ReplyDeleteI would slide all the way to work if I could...45 minutes! I must really be Dutch :)
ReplyDeleteWow. I so wanna play.
ReplyDeleteWell we need a little fun on our commute. After all this summer in the NL feels like a monsoon autumn.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'll have to tell my friends, they live in Utrecht!
ReplyDeleteIf only I could ride a slide to school every day...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your article, quite helpful material.
ReplyDeleteHahaha.. It's funny and also brilliant idea! I think my town must have this "transfer accelerator".
