My darlings, what are you up to this weekend? We're heading to East Hampton! I've never been before, but apparently it's beautiful and sceney and fun. We're staying with some friends in a house in the woods. I'm looking forward to grilling burgers and dipping my toes in the waves but not going in too far because I'm a wuss. :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and in the meantime, here are a few great posts from around the web... xoWhat gorgeous business cards.
The perfect summer earrings: pretty stars.
This Manhattan apt has a POOL in the living room.
A groom's cake that looks like the groom.
This Fourth of July cake is so clever.
An iPhone app that lets your baby choose its name by kicking!
Do or don't: A candle that smells like the New York Times.
Tina Fey reads the book-on-tape version of her book herself! Wouldn't it be awesome to listen to her tell her hilarious story?
Fascinating NYTimes article on breast milk.
Whoa! Cup of Jo was named one of the Top 100 Websites for Women by ForbesWoman Magazine. I'm so flattered and thrilled!
Last but not least, I'm excited to announce that I'll be co-hosting BLOGSHOP, a Photoshop workshop specifically for bloggers, with Bri Emery, in New York this September 24th-25th. Want to join? It will be really fun, and I would love to meet you! xo

My husband and I listened to Bossypants on a long car trip-made the time absolutely FLY by. Even if you've read the book, I highly recommend listening to Tina read it. It was fantastic! Even the hubs thoroughly enjoyed it-I was a little (pleasantly) surprised by that!
ReplyDeleteAnd that apartment with the pool really makes me wish I had a spare 10 mil!
Love all of your links :) Too bad those vintage pumps aren't in my size! :( Have a great weekend!!!

sounds like a wonderful weekend! Love that 4th of July cake!
ReplyDeletethat article about breast milk is simply incredible to me. women don't know that that's what their baby needs? how sad to have children dying with the answer to their problems right there.
ReplyDeleteI love weekends. I'm going to be seeing my friends (who I haven't seen in about a month) and I'm sooo excited! Thanks for posting such awesome links and have fun! <3
ReplyDeleteDude, I didn't see the Forbes list when I came to say ciao...or surely I would've said, "Wow, good for you!"

You always, always have the greatest Friday collections. I don't know how you find all this cool stuff, but I look forward to it all week! Thanks for making Fridays even better.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and leaving some ♥ on your wonderful blog. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteHeres a question on bike etiquette; do you ride on the street or sidewalks? I always thought streets but it seems a lot of people in slc ride on the sidewalks making it hard to walk on them lol
ReplyDeleteawesome post, as always! so happy you are in new york! i am planning a new york bloggers get-together. i am working out the kinks and posting about it on monday!
ReplyDeletehave a beautiful weekend!

that couple with the groom's cake that looks like the groom are part of my church family!
ReplyDeleteyou would've loved the entire wedding. instead of matching bridesmaids and groomsmen, they had witnesses (single, married, etc.) who all wore pastels/ worn colors and stood barefoot with them at the altar. the witnesses pledged to encourage and see that the couple's marriage is flourishes and grows in God.
the wedding favors were mason jars with each guest's name on them, which they also used to drink out of that night! all the other wedding cakes were done by Murph's Morsels. Check her out - she's a friend and NYC-based baker.
that pool in the living room IS crazy (and as a realtor in LA, i thought i had seen everything!). congrats on top 100 sites for women--it really is!!
ReplyDeletei ever read you friday post, to day i love the first picture, lovely berenjenas....have a great weekend too!

You'll have to let us know what you think of the Hamptons, Joanna! I go there once a year to visit family. "Sceney" is the perfect word! I always describe it to friends as "like Manhattan, but at the beach".
ReplyDeleteThe beaches are amazing, though!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on Forbes woman! Your blog is definitely great material!
ReplyDeleteAnd what are those in your hands, baby egg plants?
Those business cards are totally gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI read that NYT's article and was so shocked that there is so little breast feeding in some underdeveloped countries. I also thought you needed to offer a baby water in hot weather, but I guess breast milk really does it all!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend! For a minute I thought those tiny eggplants were passion fruit!
ReplyDeleteAMAZING links, as usual!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being included in the 100 Sites for Women, that's amazing!!
I love, love love those business cards.
And I was actually shopping for star-shaped earrings yesterday. Couldn't decide between gold and silver, and pendants or studs. I should have taken a photo and asked people to vote on my blog!
Great roundup, as usual! And man, I would LOVE to take that class with you, I'm actually going to be in nyc this summer, but only through the beginning of sept! doh!

Midsummer's Eve.
ReplyDeleteWith capital letters. That's what's going on over here. :-) This is Sweden's one true national celebration day. We should make this day our national day rather than the odd and rather forgotten day of 6th of June. :-)
So we're celebrating Midsummer's Eve her, in every possible way. :-)
CONGRATS! Your blog is a great one!
ReplyDeleteI love the benefits of a bicycle :) so clever!

Hope the weekend was fab! I always wanted to go to the hamptons. I must add that to my summer to do list.
ReplyDeleteAbout breasfeeding: the article says in the USA about 13 percent of babies are exclusively breast-fed for six months, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In my country (Hungary,Europe) according to a 2007 survey its 43,9 percent and get breatmilk till one year old 55,1 percent OF babies. So thats Why your great example and leading blog needed in your country:)Nóra
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on making it to the Forbes Top 100 list. That is something :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being part of the Top 100 Websites for Women! That is huge! Hope you have a great weekend and your bike picture at the end was kind of weird, because I wanted to ask you what kind of bike you ride. I'd like to find a good comfortable cruiser bike to start riding and maybe get one of those trailers that I can put my little guy in. I haven't been on a bike since college, so I've no idea other than I know I want to be upright and comfy. ANy suggestions? : )
ReplyDeleteLove the 4th of July cake! It just so happens to be my mom's birthday - we usually do a cake with sparklers in it but this is much better.

That cake was cute/funny and the pool was just wicked awesome. Couldn't agree more about the bike too, if you have a daily commute within biking distance it is most likely the best option.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great weekend and congrats on making it to the top 100 in the Forbes list!
The Bossypants audiobook is amazing! I skipped reading it in lieu of hearing her tell the story and I think I enjoyed it more than my friends who read it ;) You can't hear her whispering in type! (or can you? I don't actually know since I haven't seen the layout)
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS! Your blog making top 100 is not surprising at all - ever since my boss told me about your blog I have read it every single day and told all of my friends about it.
ReplyDeleteYou provide a little extra something to look forward to every day. Thanks for being such a great writer and for sharing so much of your life with your readers.
Ah! Congratulations on being named among the top 100 Websites for Women— what an honor, and one incredibly deserved! Now I have to go make that 4th of July cake, and wish I lived in New York so I could go hang out with you and Bri.

ReplyDeleteI have a copy of Tina Fey's Bossypants on audio, and it is pure genius. I've been super busy - too busy to sit down and read, but ultimately I'm glad that I could hear it read in her voice, because it's so authentic. I loved it start to finish!

ReplyDeletelbs, yes! i would highly recommend either a Linus Mixte, or a Public Bike Mixte -- both are upright (almost like beach cruisers) and really cute, comfy and easy to ride. i hope that helps!! happy riding!! :)
ReplyDeletelorna jane, thanks for your sweet comment! i actually ride my bike with toby in a baby seat, and we take lots of walks together -- but i still wish i had more time to get outdoors and take really long rides (which you can't do as easily with a baby in tow). btw, in mid july,i'll be posting a week of moms' stories (including my own) about juggling work vs. baby vs. life. i hope it will be helpful to other moms -- and i'm really looking forward to hearing everyone's tips/stories in the comments. xo
ReplyDeleteOh boo! When my eyes first grazed the words blog, photoshop and workshop they also saw online. It would be great if there was an online version of this workshop for those of us who would like to join but don't live anywhere near one of these workshops(I live in Australia. Oh well, a blogger can dream :)
ReplyDeleteWe listened to the audio version of Bossypants and it was FANTASTIC!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the well-deserved top 100 ranking!

ReplyDeleteYou're making me seriously miss my hometown! I hope you enjoyed your stay in East Hampton!
ReplyDeleteSo, I don't actually believe this will have effect.
ReplyDeleteIt can't work in reality, that is exactly what I suppose.
