After I read Entre Nous: A Woman's Guide to Finding Her Inner French Girl, my interest in French culture turned from adoration to obsession. One of the many qualities I love about French women is that they slowly collect iconic pieces and keep them forever. So, I'm relentlessly ridding my wardrobe and home of pieces that don't hold much meaning to me. But here are a few objects on my love-for-a-lifetime list...
1. Milly cotton-voile dress. I'm crazy about the bright bold colors and full skirt.
2. Gold lamp and tumblers: I'm on a huge gold kick right now, expecially in sleek, modern forms.
3. The book Parisian Chic, A Style Guide by model Ines de la Fressange.
4. Chloe Ballerina Flats. There's something so timeless about these simple black flats.

I'm frightened to read that book. I love a bit of French inspiration...or should that read obsession!?
ReplyDeleteI say that over and over too, I am going to get rid of all the disposable fashion and clutter in my life, I am going to simplify and go with quality over quantity and really filter out only the things I love to keep around me. But somehow I never follow through... There should be a support group for that or something, don't you think? Oh and also, those tumblers are gorgeous!

I read and loved that book as well! If you liked it, you might like 'Elegance," by Kathleen Tessaro. The main character does the same sort of thing, ridding herself of everything in her closet that isn't flattering or classic. She winds up with one dress and one pair of shoes (for a little while, anyway).
ReplyDeleteI love all things French - I will check out the book, thank you!
ReplyDeletebeautiful, classic, timeless pieces! now i'm inspired to throw out all i don't love and only spend money on quality pieces that i'll love forever...
ReplyDeleteLove every piece of that pick, Innes is living embodiment of je ne sais quoi. Now all I need are pin thin thighs and a big fat wallet!
ReplyDeleteThe Parisian Chic guide is on my wish list to read this summer and that dress is super beautiuful! What a brillaint post:) Wish you a lovely day, kisses
ReplyDeleteI so can't wait to be able to get rid of meaningless pieces in my wardrobe, and simply buy items that will last forever!

That Girl in Pearls
I couldn't agree more with the idea to "Edit" one's home and wardrobe. I just turned 30 and also became a mom... so this idea is something I have also grabbed on to. It's so important for your clothes to age well just like your furniture does.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about my wardrobe and how I want it to be as if I was living abroad for 3 months. I would only take my best clothes, pieces that are classic yet versatile and interchangeable with one another. Thus the Paris kick makes total sense. I'll have to read BOTH books! thanks!!
I loveee that dress.. the bold colors in red and black are beautiful. Great assortment :)
ReplyDeleteI have that read that book.I absolutely loved it. I isn't just a book about French fashion it talks about many different areas of their lifestyle, from entertaining to raising children. Oh, and that dress really is amazing. I've been eying it for quite some time. It is way out of my prise range so for a hundred dollars less I got a skirt version of it. It's coming in the mail today. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteim going to paris this summer and NEED that dress for the trip :)
ReplyDeleteKate's got the greatest taste! Love the post. xo Lola
ReplyDeleteThose flats are the cutest! Love them!

Anyone know where I can buy the tumblers? They're not on One Kings Lane anymore.
ReplyDeleteLoooove the Chloe ballerina's and I just ordered the book! I have actually planned on reading it for years and never got around to it - so thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Anonymous!! I have seen them in two guest posts this week and tried hunting. It's frustrating to not know any details about them other than that they were on One Kings Lane in the past!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to need someone to send me that dress. K, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat lamp and those glasses!! And always a lover of bold colours.
ReplyDeleteAs a french fashion enthusiast I've got to admit that I'm not the type of girl who sell her clothes on e-bay as soon as it's out of fashion; I keep everything! And I'm so pissed that my mum throwed away a lot of her 70's clothes...but lucky me; my grandma is like me! And I'm more a 50's fashion obssessed than a 70's one...
ReplyDeleteps; if you want to see my grandma's dresses you can visit my blog: www.lexymademyday.blogspot.com

Joanna, I'm doing a "style series" at my place, beginning today. Basic Black begins the actual series, but my post a couple of days ago goes very much in depth about wardrobe editing. Come see me when you have time. Now, I'm going to see Kate. xx's Marsha
